A science from the #protests in #berkeley today.
Emotions were high Wednesday evening in San Francisco, CA where hundreds, possibly thousands of protesters marched in the streets against President Elect Donald Trump.
Trump's anti-women, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ, anti-etc. rhetoric over his lifetime and during his campaign has caused great stress for the people in those groups and their loved ones. For some of those people the stress and anxiety has manifested itself into action as cities around the United States have erupted in protest.
As we moved toward a Trump Presidency it will be interesting to see if and how this energy will be focused. When the rallies and the marches end will the people involved organize? Will they use their talents and their passion to rally their fellow American's to their side, to lobby their congressmen, State Representatives, Governors, Mayors and City Counsels, to create the future they wish to see?
Tonight in Oakland people gathered for a march and prayer walk in solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and all those in North Dakota protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline. Local tribal leaders performed prayers then lead the group down Broadway where ceremony and dances were held on the street. #NoDAPL #WaterIsLife #DakotaAccessPipeline
Like a good Minnesotan I made it to the Apple Orchard a couple weeks ago with my Wife, Mom, Brother, Sister and their families for some Fall fun!
Tonight supporters of Missouri’s Concerned Student 1950, the group that protested at the University of Missouri to end racial hostilities on campus, gathered on the steps of Coffman Memorial Union at the University of Minnesota to show their support.  Several people spoke to the group and shared their experiences as people of color on the UMN campus.  The rally ended with Black Student Union Public Relations Chair, Javaris Bradford reading a list of demands the students had created for the University, which among other things included hiring additional faculty for cultural studies departments, seeking out additional people of color for faculty positions, and requiring every student to enroll in at least one cultural studies course. Â
This morning, Nov. 10th, 2015, fast food workers, retail janitors and their supporters gathered in Downtown Minneapolis in front of Macy’s to demand better wages.  The protest would eventually end at the Minneapolis City Hall to urge the City Council to enact a $15 minimum wage.
You may have heard that tonight Viet Cong (band) is playing at First Avenue & 7th St Entry and the controversy that comes with them. Some people have called for First Ave. to cancel the show and the band to change their name. Members and supporters of the Vietnamese community came out to protest the show and the band's name. As stated in a letter(https://docs.google.com/…/1NQNawb75RJs9OJUoxb5oO9n8gzZ…/edit) penned to First Ave. from representatives of Vietnamese, Asian and other organizations, the use of the name 'Viet Cong" has these effects. "Prompting family suffering and trauma. Triggering intergenerational Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Profiting financially off the backs of Vietnamese refugees, U.S. Vietnam Veterans, and our children." A protest was then planned so I went down to photograph, and hear what they had to say.
