I know you don't know me, and I don't really know you either, but I know your character, and I'm a bit of a fan of his. I kind of need a few more cosmic people to write with and I also do a blog for Thanos, so I figured it might not be a bad idea to follow you. If you ever want to talk, I'm available.
Yes, we do like these characters because of their powers. And yes, it’s nice that they are so very powerful that they can accomplish much more then your planetary or street level character can. But on a whole their power is irrelevant. It’s the point of view that we enjoy; Their philosophies and ideals. Even fans of Thanos who know the character well, applies to this.
While Thanos is normally portrayed as a villain (and he is) so is Galactus. But they are simply doing what they do and what they believe in.
Galactus is different though, the real of good and evil is beyond him. Galactus is as evil as a tornado: he is simply a force of nature. Now in 616 the surfer has never killed Galactus. Because in truth he cannot, Big G can simply strip away his powers as he granted them. And this is what makes the Surfer such a fantastic character: he knows that he is big G’s favorite Herald. And thanks to this Norrin has a great amount of freedom and respect from Galactus. It is because of this that the Surfer is such a wonderful character: he can cause a sentient hurricane to change its course.
The Surfer was written to be, not the most powerful hero of all, but the GREATEST hero of all. He is in all respects the Superman of the marvel Universe. Pure of heart, great in power and wiser then he should be.
And to the power they wield, it’s not as if either Adam or the Surfer are not out classed and out matched. They have been known to team up together in order to take on Thanos. I am sure you know, Thanos’s power fluctuates from greater than the surfer to below Adam’s.
The entire point of having a favorite character is that you can relate to them. Adam is a self-taught philosopher and his viewpoints on justification, priorities and life across the galaxy are what attracted me to him. I first saw Adam years ago in the first Infinity series, and (As I am a guy) he is also the reason why I grew my hair out.
It’s not like Adam or Norrin are the Living tribunal: holding absolute power with little to no information about them. They both have great, long running series built around them. They are both expansive and well forged and have in depth characteristics, personalities and philosophies that while similar, are each their own.
Saying that one only likes a character due to their level of power just displays ignorance. It’s like saying that you can’t like superman because he is so powerful, and he is. (I am not an exactly a big DC fan, but Sups is the most famous Superhero in history. Even if he is a direct rip off of a literary character.)
I am told that I am quite rare, being a straight male roleplayer on Tumblr. They…call me a unicorn apparently. But I have noticed the same thing, few cosmic level characters. It’s “water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink” I was about to start Rping with avengers and X-men because I couldn’t find any active cosmic character. That’s why my activity on this account is so low. But now that I hath found thee, I can actually get some RP done.
And yes, he is pretty. I might be a heterosexual male, but I would bang him like a screen door in a hurricane. Adam was supposed to be a perfect human as well as a weapon, and the jerks that made him sadly succeeded.
Now here is something I like to point out: Adam and Mewtwo (the pokemon) have the exact same origin story. Genetically engineered to be ‘perfect’, they both rebelled against their creators and set out to find their place in their newfound world. For a time they were considered ‘evil’ and thought themselves superior to the others around them, but with the guidance of another, they accepted their place as a protector and set out to do that job.
