WHAT IS SOCIAL MEDIA?

According to Daniel Nations, social media are web-based communication platforms that let users share and consume information with one another. Today's social media is essential to every area of modern life. It serves as a tool for more effective and practical interpersonal communication. Additionally, it enables us to interact with a big number of individuals and speak with them whenever, wherever.

During emergencies or disasters, social media are crucial for spreading information. During a disaster, it enables individuals to ask for assistance and share and exchange information. However, how had social media in the long run aided families, social workers, and the government in discerning information during calamities?

HOW SOCIAL MEDIA HAS HELPED THE FOLLOWING IN DISCERNING INFORMATION DURING CALAMITIES:

FAMILIES - Social media makes it simple for families to stay in touch during emergencies. They can utilize this to request assistance and notify their loved ones of their location. Moreover, they can offer or send updates and warnings to let their family and friends know so that they can get ready and be reminded to take precautions in the event of a disaster. 

SOCIAL WORKERS - Social workers gain a better understanding of the severity of the circumstances they must face and the type of response they must offer during a disaster. They can quickly identify the areas that require their assistance the most.

3. GOVERNMENT - Using social media, the government can inform the public and offer updates on the distribution of aid and assistance that will be given to the victims.

DIFFERENTIATE IT FROM THE PAST WHERE INFORMATION IS ONLY PROVIDED BY THE MEDIA (TV, RADIO, AND PRINT).

In today's modern world, information dissemination is more convenient and simple because you only need one click on your phone to get all the real-time updates, whenever and wherever you are. In the past, information was scarce. Though, in the past, information was much more reliable because it was carefully analyzed before being broadcast to the public, whereas today's information is not as reliable due to the prevalence of fake news and untrustworthy resources.

Hey there! My name is Jayvee, and in this blog, my friend Gabriel will give you a glimpse into a typical day in the life of a CBF student (Weekend Edition). See what a day in his life looks like by following along below!

10:00 am - Wake up

I usually get up around 4:00 am on weekdays, but since it’s the weekend, I get up at 10:00. Before the day starts, I always brush my teeth and wash my face as part of my morning routine.

10:30 am - Washing the dishes

After doing my morning routine, I proceed on washing the dishes. (I'm sure we can all agree that we do this, especially after a long night; we feel lazy doing the dishes, so we do it in the morning.)

12:00 pm - Brunch

I start by defrosting the pork that I'll be using for my brunch, but since it takes too long, I'll do other things like clean my pet dogs' cages and check on them. After that, I continue preparing my brunch by marinating the pork and cooking it for about 30 minutes, or until the pork is tender.
