slasher/splatter/etc. is my favourite genre of horror.

my least favourite is paranormal/supernatural (i.e. ghosts, demons; especially possessions and hauntings), but I watch most of those movies/franchises anyway (mostly because of my sister) - I just don't really enjoy them/post about them (Evil Dead being the exception).

what I don't watch at all are zombie/disease/infection centred movies.

I watched Evil Dead Burn last night, and-

[spoilers under cut]

I was very disappointed by it as an Evil Dead movie. because it didn't feel like one. at all. it had Evil Dead in the title, but that's about it. and the post-credit scene with Ellie was even worse because what was the point, why, and how would that make sense. ughhh...

call me sensitive, but I also thought that playing the grandma's dementia (or Alzheimer's) symptoms for laughs was absolutely tasteless.

and the abusive relationship and abusive family dynamic storyline felt like a weird afterthought with little to no substance, which makes it feel like a cheap attempt at making the movie deeper than it is, and it left me with a very weird feeling.

the gore was fine, nothing to write home about, in my opinion (I mean, the effects were good, all kudos to the SFX team!!! but yeah). the whole movie just felt a little pointless and "empty" to me.

and again, worst of all, it didn't feel like an Evil Dead movie whatsoever. anything relating it to the franchise were short little (and frankly, redundant/annoying) homages, but nothing that actually belonged to the story or the movie. it was so strange. it gave me some newfound appreciation for Rise, which I already quite liked, but also didn't immediately count as part of the franchise to me. but it felt a lot more like an Evil Dead movie than whatever this was.

I'm in my golden years now, so other subject matters appeal to me, generally more adult subject matter. You know, I'm entering the Hallmark phase of my career at this point, where I'm actually too old to do the "Evil Dead" stuff now, so that's why I've sort of gracefully bowed out of that.
