do you think that Azul chose to LARP as a mobster all on his own accord & the tweels find it hilarious on the account of their family being def-not-a-mafia,
or do you think it's something he picked from the Leeches.
like, little Jade&Floyd brought their friend home to hang out, and Mr and Mrs Leech left such an impression on little Azul he immediately decided that's how he's gonna act from now on.
the squeakquel
(no worries, this is the last one) (...for now)
if DnD exists in TWST, the chances that Idia can DM are non-zero
if Idia can DM a DnD campaign, the chances that he convinced Azul to play with him during Board Game Club are non-zero
if Azul got convinced to play a DnD campaign, the chances that he dragged Jade and Floyd along for numbers are non-zero
and if Jade and Floyd agreed to play a DnD campaign with Idia and Azul i can't help but imagine they immediately went to use unethical spells as soon as any of them wondered if it was an option
(og post no 1 here) (og post no2 here)
Jade: I can raise the temperature of a space by 5 degrees (Fahrenheit) per success. Idia: Okay. Jade: And that’s 6 successes, so 30 degrees… Idia: Okay… Jade: And ‘inside the human body’ is a space, right? Idia: …I don’t like where this is going. Jade: So I’m going to raise the temperature inside his body 30 degrees. Idia: Yeah, so he’s dead now. He was fine, and then went through all the stages of heat stroke in half a second before his body went ‘No thank you’ and just shut off to stop it from being so hot. Good job. Idia: Okay, Floyd, what do you do. Floyd: I cast “Summon Water” inside their barbarian's lungs.
the question is, would that get Jade and Floyd banned from Board Game Club, or would fellow members and TTRPG enjoyers beg Idia&Azul to bring them back 'cause those two are fascinating
something that fascinates me in TWST is the fae-beastfolk overlap
like, the Zigvolt family? is considered fae. but they are also crocodile beastfolk??? they lived in Sunset Savana even, before relocating to Briar Valley.
Lilia is a fae. also a bat. a fruit bat or a bloodsucking variety? who knows, but i'm sure the subtle vampiric vibes he's got going on were a design choice... anyway, he's a bat. so basically also beastfolk.
then there's merfolk, who could actually be "beastfolk but water-dwelling", and who would be considered fae-adjacent by our world standards.
remember also how stories of our world feature various animal helpers whose extra abilities range from "human speech" to "actual magic" so animals being fae-adjacent is like, not that much of a stretch
so like, is Leona related to faes too. is Ruggie and Jack. are tweels and Azul.
could all fae, beastfolk and merfolk trace their ancestry back to a shared group of beings? which later split off in three direction some of which are still overlapping???
You know what's so interesting about Yuu overblotting with Grim? Yuu's is NRC's tactician. So not only do the guys have to figure out a way to take Yuu down, they have to do it against someone who knows how they work and who they work well with. Their strengths and their weaknesses, whose the bigger threat, etc.
And that is so cool and so dangerous.
I have never, and will never, use "ofc" to mean "of fucking course". It literally stands for OF Course...
i know that on meta level there are, uh, likely cynical reasons for PreMo being a group of grandmas
but do you ever think how inspiring they must be in-universe?
the highly demanding idol industry. the one built on unrealistic beauty standards and taxing workouts. the one where the retirement age is somewhere under 30. that industry.
and one of the most famous units is a group of old ladies.
who could have started out young and just never stopped. or who could have started already old, and proved that age doesn't matter if you've got passion.
can you imagine young and old fans bonding over the fact that there just isn't any point in life where you must give up on your dreams and resign yourself to a life of mundane monotony. or how fans from different age groups get to come together and share their life experience with each other.
idk, PreMo as a concept just sounds cool
do you think that Ignyhide "The Otaku Shut-In" dorm actually has a rich social life
it's just that 9/10th of it is happening online on dorm's private servers
like yeah, irl the members of the dorm might appear antisocial, but online? same level of interaction and engagement as any other dorm. if not more, depending on which hobby/study circle you're looking at.
that moody-looking dude? actually a party animal by Igni's online space standards, always down to host PreMo group viewings or gaming nights. that grumpy-looking guy? most sought after commission artist who draws the cutest moe and dabbles in tooth-rotting hurt/comfort fics. those two guys who barely acknowledge each other in corridors? best of friends, know deep lore about each other, attack one of them and the other is already in your DMs with real doxxing threats. and that group of quiet Igni mobs is actually the most notorious band of ragebaiter trolls who sweep through NRC message boards frequently.
so if we take the TWST cast
put them through an inciting incident of whatever kind
who among them would be:
formerly mocking classic poetry, but suddenly finding a lot of those works damn relatable;
already partial to classic poetry, and finding a lot of those works even more relatable;
formerly mocking modern songs of popular genres, but suddenly finding a lot of those damn relatable;
already partial to modern songs of popular genres, and finding a lot of those even more relatable;
happy pride everynyan
it's hilarious to imagine the Leeches' business being something completely normal and benign
like, what if they genuinely just import landfolk goods down to Coral Sea. through completely legal means. maybe some goods are niche, like idk a limited blu-ray fullset of PreMo concert recordings complete with venue-exclusive merch? but like, the goods are completely legal. the procurement channels are completely legal. the money to purchase those goods were obtained through legal means too. everything is legal across the board.
they have SO MANY people trying to curry favors with them, and it's because the Leeches are the best at tracking down, obtaining and delivering whatever it is you might desire. and sure they might be amused, but they ain't gonna judge
and the subtly menacing "we are totally not a mafia wink-wink" act? is just that - an act because all Leeches enjoy watching people squirm and boy do people squirm when you're a big fella with a toothy grin and penchant for saying out of pocket shit
and another thing on the topic of B4
so Jamil is in his white lotus era, playing up the tragic heroine of the "poor servant who will be loyal to his master even as it pains him" variety, and the manga is ramping up the presentation even further
but like, does he act like this often
i mean? in the context of B4 we aren't shown other students questioning his behavior, so presumably??? that's not the first time he's going "Woe is me, for a Viper cannot go against an Asim 😔" all plaintive-like?????
but also, this is presumably the first time Kalim is made to act like a tyrannical despot. so it's presumably also the first time Jamil has the opportunity to go all "please bear with this, while I shall do whatever I can to shield you from housewarden's ire 😔"
but iirc we don't exactly see him in this fake-ass top-tier customer service persona outside of B4, right? like yeah other characters - e.g. Leona - mention how sycophantic Jamil is pre-B4. but we don't really get to see other examples beside B4???
so that's why i'm wondering whether anyone in Scarabia was going "what is his drama queen ass even on" while Jamil was going for that Best Actor Of the Year award.
so i'm rereading TWST manga, and think back on B4 as a whole
and y'know, i have to wonder - does Kalim hold the highest rank in that dorm???
i mean sure, he's a housewarden, so his word is law as far as Scarabia is concerned. and in B4 in particular, Jamil was using Kalim's position to make him into a tyrant and a despot
but i mean like, outside of the hierarchy of NRC, does Kalim the Asim heir hold the highest rank in his dorm.
i'm just looking at the depiction of the parade training, looking at all those NPCs carrying umbrellas, and i can't help but wonder: which families do these kids come from? are there any other merchant heirs? sons of bankers or business owners or celebrities? scions of distinguished families that come from old money? like yeah NRC isn't full of princes and other members of peerage, but???
i just think about politics in general, you know. these guys are cream of the crop as far as magic population is concerned, and there are non-zero chances there are other big names in the Scarabia dorm beside the Asim family.
so like, y'know. did anyone phone or text their family about being forced into a lengthy parade, carrying an umbrella like a servant. would it be considered an offence. or would it be just normal social roleplay, because they're at school as normal students, so they have to obey whatever their housewarden demands of them.
on the topic of UMs
so Jade and Jamil require eye contact
how limited are they by distance, and
do they have to have direct eye contact, or would catching someone's eyes in a mirror work
!!!
admittedly the ol' Perseus trick wasn't something i thought about at the time of writing this post
BUT
it sure is something i've thought about in the past
CAN you actually reflect UMs that require eye contact back at their owner????? and HOW would it work if you can???

not aromantic but I believe in their beliefs.
"there's no platonic explanation for this" try harder bucko
love is a beautiful wonderful multifaceted nebulous thing that shouldn't be reduced to the strict bounds of Tier One: Romance and Tier Two: Friends. get weird with it. love your friends deeply, wildly, passionately and platonically. cowards
True character relationship appreciation enlightenment lies in recognizing that sometimes, there is no romantic explanation for this bullshit.
