Alright guess who got too carried away with a one-off joke character
Yasmin Cobra is Jamil's counterpart in the gacha game Mirrored Dreamland (MRRD). Personality-wise they're very similar, but their lives have a running theme of "different setup, same outcome" that makes her his "mirror." In this universe she's not a servant, but still couldn't escape being trapped by her family's circumstances, just for different reasons this time.
(Thank you to @viperbunnies for helping me lots with this one!)
About her name: "Yasmin" is a Princess Jasmine reference. Viper & cobra are different types of snakes.
MRRD Kalim's name is Farrah, although I haven't picked a surname yet. Her family isn’t rich rich like Kalim, but they're still better off than the Cobras. Farrah’s also an only child this time, so all the wealth is spent on her. Their families are close and have known each other for generations.
There’s a bit more emphasis in MRRD on how Yasmin and Farrah were genuinely friends as kids when neither of them knew about what was to come.
It’s always the people with the money and connections that win more in life, so as they grew up, the gap between them grew wider and wider too. Farrah was constantly "luckier," with more opportunities in life, more connections, more chances to travel, etc., while Yasmin could only work her ass off to obtain the same or even less (TL;DR the average person vs nepo baby). So Yasmin’s resentment towards Farrah built up over time, even though she’s aware Farrah's not doing this on purpose and it’s a byproduct of their different circumstances since birth.
Yasmin has the additional curse of being a girl + eldest daughter, so she has an extra burden placed on her shoulders: she’s expected to have an arranged marriage, and there’s lots of pressure on her to be good “wife” and “mother” material. She has a few “boyish” hobbies that she keeps getting scolded for because it’s “not feminine.” She also has a younger brother who’s very obviously allowed more freedom & pressured less by their parents.
At school she frequently helps Farrah out with studying & other tasks, somewhat due to a mix of habit and not being able to bring herself to say no to a friend. But she’s frustrated that she has to keep helping her, because “She literally could do nothing and be handed an easy life on a platter if she wanted/why do I have to keep helping when I have my own life to worry about.”
The big turning point in Yasmin’s story was when Farrah was offered a major opportunity that Yasmin also wanted (e.g. internship/study abroad, either way it’s something huge). She helped with Farrah’s application too, so she’s sure that Farrah’s application was less competitive than her own. Farrah’s family likely pulled some strings behind their backs, but unfortunately there’s no concrete proof, and even if she could prove it, it’d likely amount to nothing.
This opportunity would’ve been a stepping stone for her to prove to her parents that she could be independent, but since she failed, they already began to arrange suitors for her. Perhaps she entertains them until the suitor loses interest, but eventually there comes one that her parents really begin to force on her, because their family’s situation is becoming dire, and the guy’s family promises to help. (Live action Jasmine is coerced to marry Jafar because he’s threatening her family, so this is taking insp from that.)
Her OB flashback contains a segment with her meeting said suitor at an arranged dinner (blind date). She’s tuning out whatever he’s saying while you hear her thoughts about how much she barely knows him, and how much she dislikes the little details about him: the scent of his cologne stings her nose, she can’t stand the way he chews, he makes comments solely based on her looks because he doesn’t know her as a person, etc.
Her thoughts begin to spiral into Is this the person that she has to imagine sleeping next to? Is this someone she’ll have to tolerate the lips of on her skin? And then she’ll be a mother and then… is this it? Is this the rest of her life?
Dread rises in her stomach as she realizes it probably will be if she doesn’t do something now. She has to take back what she knows she deserves from Farrah, or her life and identity will literally end here. For the first time, she can’t keep her head down and put her family first because she’s so terrified. After this is when events very similar to our Book 4 occur in MRRD.
She chooses to involve Mayu for the same reasons as Jamil: She looks gullible and easy to manipulate (💀)
Not entirely sure how things end after B4 for her yet, but post B4 her small act of rebellion is telling her parents she will “settle if her husband buys her a tiger.” Or being stubborn like "Sorry wdym I have to be engaged to a guy who doesn’t know how to wash the dishes.”
Other misc trivia:
She's more of a sweater & cardigan person than hoodies. She wears the MDA uniform's shirt and tie with her own sweater pulled over top.
Instead of a parrot, she dreams of having a pet tiger. But knowing how unrealistic that is, she’s willing to settle for a Bengal cat.
She despises receiving free stuff or money from Farrah.
She’s good at a lot of stuff just like Jamil, but more-so because of her parents expectations and not due to being a servant.
She has complicate feelings about taking care of her appearance. On one hand she genuinely enjoys styling her hair and doing her makeup, but on the other hand it feels like she's playing right into her parents' hands because they demand her to "look pretty for potential suitors."
Her OB form wears a torn up, black bridal veil.
If Yasmin and Jamil ever met, they would not get along. She'd think he's cringe.
She's rather popular with female players. There were definitely some male players that got a bit offended by her story, unfortunately.
I did joke that Jamil doesn't like her or her ship with Mayu in previous posts, but I don't think he hate hates her. The whole irony of Yasmin is that she’s literally like Jamil looking into a mirror, and it hits a bit too close to home that it makes him uncomfortable. With the addition of her making several bad decisions that he thinks he’s above ("I would not make your mistakes," even though he would and literally did in TWST), he’s rather critical of her despite her being him if he were a worse person in this timeline. I think it kind of reflects how hard he is on himself. He’s just lucky he had a blorbo to help him skip the events of B4 this time 😭

her uma name is "salt cocoon" which is a literal translation of (most of) her name
(Context: I was thinking if jamil was born in the year of the snake then mayu would be a few months later in the year of the Horse, then I was like what if he played umamusume and umayu was his favourite uma)
long story short, since we were going to teach a bunch of elementary kids in a public school, we needed a professional spokesperson.... and finding one for free is like looking for a needle in hay. Especially with no connections.
Aside from hiring a spokesperson, we also needed to spend money for transportation, props, and snacks for the kids. All on the budget of five broke college students.

Mooncake is such a creative take, and I really love that desert from the few occasions I can get some 😭 I'm in love with the veil you added for them, and the staff ooh it is so yummy... The tiny detail of adding the pattern too! Their outfit is so flowy and gives so much Deity vibes and It's so nice to see. (I saw the other designs on the drive too and let me just say your brain is so peak for being able to bring some cultural elements to the respective deserts) I don't think I remember associating him with mooncakes but it makes so much sense to me now, thank you so much for this insight Lulu 🥺
