@addyadamhere
Oh no, I wasnāt looking for sympathy. I mean, I thank you for it but I wasnāt trying to search for it. Iāve had ninety odd years to come to grips with everything. I was merely making a statement to answer your question. YouĀ can do this, though, Adam. I know you can.
No, no, it's fine. I was just saying that if you can go through it then so can I. I don't know if I can but I have to try right?Ā
Thank you. I donāt know, I feel different. Better somehow. Maybe itās just because Iām finally sure my dad is okay. But enough about me. How have you been?Ā
Well I'm just glad you're feeling good. Your dad...? Do you guys have a better relationship now...? As for me, I've been pretty good. I just went on a spiritual journey so that was pretty awesome.Ā
Does it matter? Your immortal. [She grabs the pills back from him, popping the lid off and taking out two, handing him one.]
I guess that's true. [He took a second to look at the pill before shrugging and popping it into his mouth.]
Gone away for a bit?
Yep. I went on a spirit journey, it was very spiritual.Ā
I just- I have to go, get out of here.
Uh okay...do you know how you're going to go about doing that?
Iām sure you did. Well, thanks I guess? Well, yeah. Fun is always fun. Especially when itās with me, but I guess you remember that. no you donāt, which is why itās so easy for me to spot when you actually are nervous. I donāt. I donāt know. You just seem a little.. off is all. [she giggled a little looking up at him]. Great! Youāve always had charm, Adam. I guess so. Well, okay. If you say youāre fine..
Uh, well you're very welcome. Totally true, so lets go have fun fun fun! But I'm not nervous. Not at all. Nope, nope, nope. Off? What do you mean off? I'm totally, one hundred percent fine. What can I say? I'm a charming guy. Totally fine, no need to worry about me at all.Ā
Are you sure? Pretend I wonāt kill you if you were and tell me the truth. I⦠heā¦letās not talk about Ramon. I already told you what happened.
I think so...okay, okay, let's not talk about Ramon. Uh....well you seem really different. What's up?Ā
Thank you, he was a good man. They all were. Itās hard. Iām not going to lie to you. The first time I was here [scoots forward in her sheet to pat his hand] I had a teacher tell me that it got easier with every person you lost. It doesnāt. The only child I have left will be seventy next week. She has dementia and barely remembers what she had for breakfast, let alone me. Husband number four passed away nearly two years ago and it still hurts just as badly as it did when I woke to be told that Oscar, my first husband, had gone down with the ship. Itās a lonely life but I try to remember the good.
I'm sure he was. Oh, I know about loss...I lost my parents and I almost lost my sister twice so I understand it. I hate it, but I understand it. [He rubbed his hand over her's and gave her a small smile] I'm so sorry, I can't imagine how it feels to go through all you've gone through but if you've gone on for so long and you're still functioning then maybe I've got hope.Ā
Are you immortal also? There seem to be quite a few of us. I wasnāt always like this you know? I should have been killed with my husband when the Titanic sunk, but I woke up some time afterwards, just floating in the water. A rescue boat pulled me from the water and it was there that I met my Charlie. [smiles fondly at the memory] Itās an adventure though. I know many who tire of it, but Iāve yet to. Iām met and married four wonderful men, Iāve raised babies and seen the world. It is sad to watch your family pass on and know you can never join them, but itās not so bad when you know theyāve lived their lives. Itās always sadder when they die young.
Yeah, I am. It's weird right? I never really wanted to be immortal. I took a bad fall and I was legally announced dead before I woke up on the hospital bed two days later. Wow, I'm so sorry for your husband... I'm sure I'll get tired of it eventually.Ā Well I guess that watching over your family is a good thing but I already met the love of my life and I really don't wanna watch her die and meet someone else.Ā
Iām only teasing dear. Iāll be one hundred and twenty four in January.
Holy wow...I mean, I don't know why I'm so surprised by this given my circumstances but what's it like to live for so long? I'm not used to the whole immortality thing quite yet.Ā
Why Adam, itās awfully rude to ask a lady how old she is. [teases]Ā
No, no, no I didn't mean it like that. It's just....nevermind.Ā
Hey! I canāt help it! It just sort of happens. We did have some good times, but who says we canāt have fun again now, too? Well, I remember that youāve always been really kind and you talk a lot when you get nervous. I donāt think itās that wierd. Are you sure youāre fine? You donāt seem fine.. Yay! Itās settled than. If I ever go into war youāll be the first person that I go to. Relax, Adam you arenāt talking too much. Well, because you seem to be talking a lot and bringing up the weather which is what you do when youāre nervous.
I'm not blaming you or anything, I found it hilarious! And adorable of course. Well fun sounds....fun. Well I mean, not always but yeah, I think you pretty much got it. Also, I don't get nervous so being nervous is really weird for me! You don't? Really? I'm totally fine! Why wouldn't I be? [He put his hand up in a salute before laughing.] Always ready for duty ma'am. I always talk a lot, it's part of my charm. And weather is kinda what my powers are based on so y'know....I like talking about it.Ā
The first World War.Ā
Wowzers, uh how long have you been alive...?
The last time I was here, it would have been 1988.
Adam! What a lovely name! My Charlieās best mate was named Adam. They fought in the war together.
Whoa, nevermind. I haven't been hereĀ that long.Ā
Thank you, I like it. What war was that...?
Really? What else exactly do you remember about me? No, itās not wierd. We all have the normal type that we go for.You obviously like the quirky clumsy girls. Relax Adam. No need to shut up. You fine.. Exactly. Maybe I should go into battle sometime. You could be my backup. No. Youāre not talking too much. I guess it is. Is everything okay? Why do you seem so nervous to be talking to me?Ā
Of course! It would be hard to forget how clumsy you are. Well...I remember that we used to have a lot of fun back in the day. Anyway, what do you remember about me? I guess that's true but it's kinda weird don't you think? Right, right, I'm totally one hundred percent fine. Well I'd be happy to be your back up! Also, since I can't die, I would be an awesome choice! You sure? It feels like I'm talking too much. Everything's fine, why wouldn't everything be fine? What? Me? Nervous? No.Ā
Hello. No, I donāt think weāve met at all. I doubt you were here the last time I was. Iām Elizabeth, but I prefer Lizzy. Charmed to make your acquaintance.
Really? I've been here for a while but alright, if you say so. When was the last time you were here? Nice to meet you Lizzy, I'm Adam!Ā
