Amiga 1000 / Aegis Sonix 2.0 (1987)
Sonix, written in 68k Assembler by Mark Riley and published by Aegis, was a pioneering early software synth on the Amiga.
Drawing in the oscillator waveforms (by mouse) in realtime is what made Sonix special at the time, allowing one to coax some rather unique timbres from the Amiga’s Paula chip. Adding in varying amounts of 2nd and 3rd order harmonics is also a notable and very musical feature of the software. I’ll try to post some audio examples soon.
