Anakin Skywalker really is that one character that no one will ever get over
in star wars fandom how is everything about anakin's fall always everyone else's fault except the guy who personally designed it to be a no hit run of Sith Apprentice Generator IV
in legends palpatine wrote this book of monsters about sith creations and included an entry for darth vader, and described the amount of joy he got from turning a nine year old into a war machine. the entry ends with maybe the most chilling line in anything even star wars adjacent, where palpatine says, "given the opportunity to create vader again, i would, and with glee," or thereabouts. the entire entry is haunting, but that final line is completely fucking chilling; palpatine is the ultimate, insidious force, and no matter how long it took, how difficult it was, or what anakin did to him, palpatine wouldn't have stopped. even after being killed by vader, palpatine would still go back and do it all over again, even if it ended in vader killing him. palpatine - famous for the ways he's attempted to cheat death - would risk it all just for the joy of curbstomping a nine year old's soul into hell one more time. and this is just something that exists that we can all read
I love "i would kill for you" ship dynamics but what about "i would stop killing" ship dynamic??
I would lay down my sword for you. I would change my nature and go against everything i've known. I would resist the easy way out of solving my problems. I would give up the adrenaline of battle to stay by your side and make tea instead. I'm not sure I know who I am without a weapon in my hand because I've had to fight for so long but for you I'm willing to try and figure this out.
It must be hard. To put down your weapon that's protected you for so long. It's allowed you to stay alive it's kept you from getting hurt--physically and mentally. Because you've never had to worry about a real relationship if you think you'll be dead at the next battle. And you feel naked without it and it feels like you're ripping off an extension of yourself. Are you even whole without it? Are you worthy of being loved if you can't prove it by risking your life? And yet they've found someone who's asking them for something much harder than dying in battle on their behalf. They've found someone who wants them to live. And that's much more terrifying.
"This is Fine"
Said Piett after everything went very very wrong.
What the fandom did with piett is so fun because yes, this is star wars, every character has a wookieepedia page and a detailed backstory, but the way piett was transformed into a tired middle manager who's loyal to darth vader but just a bit exasperated with him, an imperial who believes in the empire yet still has a heart, is peak fandom. Like he's the perfect spice to a vader and luke story, an outsider who doesn't understand the complicated dance going on between vader and luke, but an insider who knows enough to know that they're being idiots. And he can't help but growing fond of luke, though he needs a hard drink after all his antics.
“do you really want anakin dead?”
"I can fix him" good for you. I need to craft a scenario in which he betters himself, to prove to myself that I can meaningfully atone despite how much of myself I see in him.
"I can make him worse" I can too but first I have to prove that there was hope for him somewhere, at some point, which he rejected. Because if there was never any hope for him, what hope is there for me?
oh boy how do I love the idea that luke skywalker has nuclear power levels of celestial energy burning under his skin all the time and just. a nice guy. a good fella. just your buddy, cheerfully dragging you along for an adventure
the fact that “the vibes here are rancid” is a power that the jedi actually have is insane to me
can you imagine being a normal dude and you’re getting help from this jedi, and this jedi dude’s like “head’s up, the next five minutes have the worst vibes imaginable” and you’re like “why?” and the jedi dude’s like “inscrutable cosmic power told me so, doesn’t get more specific than that”
like all these weird little men in weird little robes with glowy swords do is meditate because they have sorcerer-induced anxiety. yoda’s always fucking meditating on his little pillow because he has to figure out if he’s nauseous because the arcane will of all life itself is speaking through his midichlorians to warn him or if he just ate a bad burrito for lunch. the force is constantly dunking on these weird little men and telling them “something bad’s going to happen” and never explaining what’s going to happen. do you sense bad vibes because your washing machine is about to break and flood your apartment, or because the government you serve is about to turn into a dictatorship and mow your ass like grass? that’s for you to figure out
mace windu has Double Anxiety because every now and then he gets a pop-up that tells him when he is making a Significant Visual Novel Protag Choice
The Force: This Action Will Have Consequences!
Windu, downing three space ambien: great
And why not? What should he be afraid of? Except— Fear lives inside him anyway, chewing away the firewalls around his heart.
