Jacob smiled at her and ran his thumb over her cheek. He slowly leaned in to kiss her but paused just as their lips were about to meet. He leaned his forehead against hers and let out a soft sigh. ‘’No. Not like this.’’ he said, moving away from her and taking her hand in his. ‘’When I kiss you again I want it to not be in a hospital garden.’’

Sophia was anticipating the kiss as she closed her eyes but as he stopped she opened her eyes looking at him. When he said he didn’t want their first kiss to be in the hospital garden she chuckled softly. “Understandable. How about we head back and get some sleep for the night. Then you can come up with some romantic way to kiss me again.”

‘‘That sounds like a good idea.’‘ he smiled at her. ‘‘Who’s to say that I haven’t already decided how and when our second first kiss will happen?’‘ he said, leaning back in the wheelchair with an aura of confidence. He had after all been planning a date with her for a few weeks now before this accident. It seemed a waste to let those plans go to waste.

Today would have been the day. Jacob had been planning that day for months now. The day he would finally ask his beloved to marry him. He had everything planned out. They would have gone to an expensive restaurant, then taken a walk in the park before ending up by a lit up pond where he would have gotten down on one knee and asked the question.

He’d had everything planned to be perfect. The only thing he hadn’t counted on was the car speeding down the street, losing control and running straight into him. Next thing he knows he is standing a few feet away, watching the paramedics putting his body in a body bag, the small ring box laying forgotten on the ground.

Mave stooped over and picked up the small box that was going unnoticed. Her nose wrinkled as she felt the side slightly wet with blood. “I suppose you’re lucky that the case doesn’t need to be in perfect condition in order to return this,” the witch drawled, green eyes shifting towards the figure who stood on the fringe of all of the activity. “Not that you’re likely to be concerned with money anymore,” she added with a soft laugh, her lips twitching into a light smirk.

Jacob turned his head and looked at the woman when she spoke to him. ‘’Please put that back.’’ he asked her. It might be a long shot but he hoped that the person he had been planning on giving it to wound find it and know that he hadn’t really meant those last words he had said to them. ‘’I’m dead, right?’’ he asked even though he already knew the answer to that question.

“That’s a cute name,” she said slowly sipping her drink. “Do you need any ice? Did I make it to hot?” she asked. “Did your significant other do anything for you?”

‘‘It is perfect.’‘ he smiled at her, taking a sip from his cup. ‘‘That’s a subtle way of asking if I’m single or not.’‘ he chuckled. ‘‘I am, by the way.’’

“If you want. But I have the perfect view wherever I am when you are with me.” he smiled at her, gently cupping her cheek. “Can I…” He paused, not sure if he should really ask her. “Kiss you?” he finished the sentence.

The girl smiled when he complimented her. He surely had a way with words. She was surprised by his request, but she nodded. “Y-Yes you can.” She whispered feeling a little nervous. It was technically going to be their first kiss, well to her at least.

‘‘I will. I get to bring the most romantic stuff I have all over again.’‘ he smiled at her. ‘‘I could have us go on a date that was amazing and you wouldn’t know if we’d already been on it.’‘ he joked. He absentmindedly leaned into her touch when her hand touched his cheek. ‘‘I know.’‘

“Well I’m sure if its wooed me before then it will woo me again.” She assured him. Her soft chuckles filled the air. She looked over before pressing another kiss to his cheek. “Wanna stay out here and admire the view a little longer?” she asked softly.

"If you want. But I have the perfect view wherever I am when you are with me." he smiled at her, gently cupping her cheek. "Can I..." He paused, not sure if he should really ask her. "Kiss you?" he finished the sentence.

“Well if you could have anything what would you want?” she asked. “A dog?”

"I actually already have a dog. His name is Kino." he told her, taking a small sip from the hot chocolate, being careful not to burn his tongue.

Jacob couldn’t help the small smile that creeped onto his face when she said that they might still have children together. “I would like that.” he told her. “That’s great, Sophia. Just don’t try to force them to come back. If they come back, they come back. And even if they don’t, I get to try to get you to fall in love with me again.”

Sophia nodded knowing that he didn’t want her to force them to come back. If they did it would be great but if not it would all be fine. “I’m sure you’ll find it fun trying to get me to fall in love with you again.” She teased playfully as she reached up to stroke his cheek. “I promise I won’t leave you.” She whispered softly.

“You’re welcome.” she said sitting down. “It’s nice to meet you Jacob.” she said smiling. “So what’s one thing you wished for today?”

"I honestly didn't wish for anything." he told her. He had a good life and he had never had to want for anything. "I never do."

“Well maybe I can make it better.” she said. She poured the hot chocolate into two mugs and handed him one. “Here you go. I hope you like it. I’m Éponine by the way.”

"Thank you Éponine." he smiled as he accepted the mug, putting it down on the table but keeping his hands around it. "I'm Jacob."

“You’re welcome.” she said. “Of course.” she said. “What did you do today?” she added cocoa powder to the milk.

"Not much honestly. Barely even left the flat." he told her, moving to sit down by the kitchen table.

“Happy Birthday!” she said. “How about cookies?” she asked. “So have you had a good birthday?”

"Thank you." he said automatically like he had all day. "No cookie for me. Thank you though." he smiled at her. "I have."

She moved aside to let him inside. “So why is all your family at your apartment?” she asked going to heat milk on the stove.

Jacob followed her inside, looking around the apartment. "Well, uhm..." He scratched the back of his neck. "It's my birthday." he told her.

“I can understand that.” she said. “Would you like to come in? I can make some hot chocolate.” She hoped she wouldn’t sound to weird.

Jacob smiled and nodded. "I would like that." he told her. He was glad that she wasn't completely creeped out by the strange man on he fire escape just outside her window.

“Then I will send her a text when we get back to our room.” he told her with a small smile on his lips. It made him happy to see how eager she was to see the photo albums and meet Adeline again. “I am the oldest. Then it’s Adeline and then the twins.” he told her, his eyes landing on their connected hands, watching as her thumb moved over his knuckles.

“Twins? Wow so you have three siblings.” Sophia whispered obviously interested in his life. “That must’ve been nice. Having a big family.” From what she understood, she was an only child. She wondered suddenly if they had any children together. “W-We don’t have kids right?”

He gave a small chuckle. “Sometimes having a big family can be annoying though. It’s hard to find time to be alone.” he said. He shook his head and chuckled again at her question. “No, we don’t have any children of our own.” he told her. “Though we have talked about it.”

“Well I’m sure you always had someone to talk to though.” She whispered running her hand through his hair. “Maybe we still can have children one day.” She whispered as she bit her lip. Her eyes glanced up at his face as she studied his expression. “I-I talked with the doctors while you were sleeping and they said that theres hope that my memories will come back.”

‘’Hello. Sorry if I scared you. I’m just… hiding.’’ Jacob explained when they caught him outside their window on the fire escape.

“Hiding from what?” Éponine asked slightly amused. “Or are you just being Holly Golightly?” she asked.

Jacob chuckled lightly. "No, I'm actually hiding. My entire family is up there and they can be a bit too much sometimes." he told her.

“I have two sisters. And one brother.” he told her, a small smile on his lips. “Adeline, who works here, Sophia, and Samuel.” he said. “If you want I can have Adeline bring over one of our photo albums? I know that she wouldn’t mind. Plus she wants to see you again.”

A grin fell on her lips as she nodded eagerly.”I’d love that. I’d love that a lot actually.” She wanted to see if those photos or even if interacting with Adaline would help her. “Are you the oldest?” She asked as her thumbs brushed over his knuckles.
