“No one ever said you had to say it like... all the time,” why was he pushing the changing of his name in her phone? Well... he was Danny, and he was going to push this one until he had no whines left in him. “I just like... I mean I don’t wanna just be some guy, I guess.” That one, though, that was bold for him. He’d never outright said he wanted to be more to Mave than just some guy. He never did because he never really wanted to admit that to anyone. He could barely admit to himself how he felt about her most of the time, but now... well things were different, to say the least.

Taylor plugged in his last grade of the semester-- yet somehow he didn’t feel the wave of relief he expected. It still felt like he was sitting on pins and needles, like some messed up acupuncture. He had his suspicions as to why, the senior student standing in his office like an elephant out of place. Technically the semester wasn’t over so technically she was still his student. So he should just wait a few days before contacting her, right? Then he didn’t have to hold back, they could just be too adults attracted to each other.

But the image of Mave crying in his office haunted him. It probably would for a while. Seeing people cry always left an impression on him, or more accurately a hot iron brand. Big displays of emotion were hard for him to process, crying being the worst of them. Still, he couldn’t just sit and wait, not knowing how Mave was fairing... He took out his phone and wrote a quick text: TXT: Hey TXT: We should get coffee He waited. And waited. Then finally looked at the time and saw it was four in the morning. Whoops. Either Mave would see what a hard worker he was when it came to his job... or she would think he was desperate. Taylor couldn’t let himself think about that. He left a mess of papers and his laptop on the table and went to bed, finally, turning the volume on his phone all the way up so hopefully it would wake him up when Mave texted him. Or when he got an angry email from one of his students about their grade. Whichever came first.

“Oh, my deepest apologies.” Kendrick snorted, giving Felix a brief roll of his eyes. “At least some of us bothered finding hobbies that don’t require seein’ instead of just sitting around all day and complaining.” he reminded the boy, arms crossing over his chest. “And for your information — that was Miss McGrady’s cat screeching last night, not me. Dumb thing got itself wedged between the screen and the window again.”

        Felix, who was resting on the couch, sat up at the retort and turned his head into the direction of Kendricks voice. ❛❛Isn’t it pathetic to blame the pet?❜❜, he stated, lifting his chin with cheeky confidence. ❛❛It’s the oldest excuse for people’s failures, and not even original. It’s like blaming the dog to have farted when they aren’t even in the same room. And just for the record, I don’t sit around all day, complaining, okay? It’s called studying.❜❜

It’d been a promising case, and when the mob boss told him to approach the woman involved, Ace had no objections. Apparently there was some long friendship between his boss and this family, but he wouldn’t pry; he wasn’t paid to be interested. He had found her address easily, whistling as he walked up to her door. He knocked, doorbells were useless devices, and when there was movement inside the home, Ace straightened his jacket, sighing slightly as the door opened, “Miss DuMont?”

The lighter flicked in the alley cut off from the surrounding darkness. The fire lit up the end of cigarette and the man inhaled the smoke into his lungs. His brows rose at the sight of a figure appearing in the lighted rectangle of the street seen from his spot. The girl looked like nothing that wandered this deep into the district. It seemed she walked out of someone’s dream, unreal and unfitting in her dirty, cheap surroundings.

“You’re lost?” El walked out from the shadow, the cigarette in his hand, whilst the other one righted the gun in the back of his jeans.

“Well you are going to have to find another way to keep warm.” He said knowing he couldn’t stay in bed forever, the minutes were ticking away and eventually he was going to have to get up and get ready for his shift. Despite how he enjoyed the soft breath on his neck and her sweet lips on his skin. “As I will continue to do so.” He smirked as his hand slid down her back. “I will have to take that complaint up with myself later then. After I get out of this bed and maybe in the shower.”
