Bruh religious or not there’s no debating that Dreamworks Prince of Egypt (1998) is a masterpiece and one of the most visually stunning works of animation of all time. The parallels between Yocheved and Miriam singing the River Lullaby as a tear runs down their cheek and the wind blows their hair in front of their face? Incredible. The use of hieroglyphics to show how Moses learned that his father ordered the Hebrew babies slaughtered??Ingenious. The duet between Moses and Ramses where the choir chants in the background while you watch the plagues destroy Egypt and Moses is begging Ramses to let his people go and Ramses refuses and it shows them facing each other and then side by side and then Ramses walking away while Moses stands firmly??? Intense. When Moses parts the sea and the Hebrews are walking between the water and lightning strikes in the background, illuminating the silhouette of a giant shark swimming in the wall of water???? Iconic. The entire movie is just absolutely breathtaking and that’s just tea
i think that fact that i don’t have to walk into class and hand in a hardcopy of an essay because everything is now submitted electronically is destroying the already tiny power deadlines had over me.
electronic deadlines don’t. feel. real.
walking into a class empty handed while everyone else passes their papers forward? real. (real fear.)
hitting a little ‘submit’ button at 11:59pm while alone? not real.
Hi! I’m a young adult with ADHD- inattentive subtype. I just got my diagnosis last night and I’ve been prescribed a low dose of adderall and I start taking it tomorrow morning. I was just wondering if anybody has any tips for adjusting to the medication or just things I should know? Thanks a bunch!
Sent August 27, 2019
Avoid Vitamin C while it’s active in your system, as that will nullify its effects.
You may find that it helps a lot at first, even at a low dose, and then seems to stop working after a week or two; that doesn’t mean it’s no good, it means that you’ve habituated to the low dose and actually need a higher one. Talk to your doctor about what’s going on, and decide with them whether an increase is advisable.
Any questions, talk to your pharmacist.
If you lose your appetite, carry food with you at all times and try to make your needed calories. Don’t be afraid to talk to a dietitian if you are having trouble with this, as they will be able to help you put together a healthy meal plan that you will be able to follow even on meds.
Talk to other people to find out if it’s actually helping; sometimes we don’t notice a change in our behaviour, but the people around us do. I remember when I first took Concerta, I didn’t think it was doing anything, and then one day after I’d quit taking it I realized I had been babbling at my poor, long-suffering, patient as a saint brother for over 45 minutes non-stop. I asked him if this was what I’d been like before and if that had been different when I was on the meds, and he said yes.
Followers, any other tips and tricks?
-J
I’m thankful Jesus never says, “This is the last time I’ll put you back together.”
Some facts on adhd since last month was adhd awareness month (but i procrastinated and didn’t make an adhd post then!) so here it is!!
ADD is not a thing anymore. It’s called ADHD whether the type is hyperactive, inattentive, or combined. The term ADD was kicked out in 1994, actually.
ADHD does not effect just school. Actually, in my experience, my emotional control and relationships have been way more screwed over by ADHD then my grades and concentration.
On that note, people with ADHD tend to misread social situations a lot. Stuff like volume control, metaphors, passive aggression, emotional moods, and sarcasm tend to go way over our heads. Give us some grace when we’re confused.
“Comorbid” is a exciting word because it sounds like Death and Suffering got together and are business partners, but comorbid is actually a medical term for when one or more disorders co-occur. here’s a fun list of common comorbid conditions for people with ADHD:
-learning, language, and fine moter skills disorders
- tic disorders
- anxiety, depression, OCD, anger-control problems, RSD, bipolar disorder, insomnia
- predisposition for substance abuse, suicidal tendencies, and an elevated risk of obesity
in fact, people with ADHD are about 60%-80% more likely to have an additional disorder.
anyway that’s it. that’s all my facts. hope you learned some stuff! if you want sources either send an ask or research it yourself!
Back to School Tips
for the ADHD student
just a list of things that have helped me while struggling at community college:) hopefully these will apply for high school ADHDers too!
- don’t choose classes that you don’t love, unless absolutely necessary. uninteresting classes will kill your motivation so fast guys.
- when scheduling classes, DO NOT sign up for a class before 8am!! or even 9!! you’ll think you can do these things, but you just can’t, Nemo.
- take it easy on the redbull. energy drinks, sugar, and any other processed foods and/or drugs isn’t the best for concentration or memory or functioning in general.
- speaking of memory, it is very important to get enough sleep, because that is when memories are consolidated. specifically, get enough deep (NREM) sleep; deep sleep is when explicit and factual memories are established, while REM sleep only consolidates procedural and emotional memories. Basically, if you’re gonna skip sleep and do homework, wake up early to study, don’t stay up late.
- and while we’re talking of sleep, keep in mind a couple things: 1) yes, sleep is important but 2) you will undoubtedly not get enough so don’t cry over it and 3) this is when coffee comes in.
- and i don’t mean Starbucks, because that heavenly, fantastic shit is for much richer people. get used to strong, black coffee because it’s cheap and works better and it’s cheap.
- make friends with your professors at the BEGINNING of the term. sometimes all you gotta do is start the conversation and your grade will magically become better.
- always have a healthy snack on hand, like almonds or dried fruit.
- find yourself a sanctuary. THIS MIGHT BE MY MOST IMPORTANT TIP. on campus, things are gonna be overwhelming and hard and tiring, and you’re gonna need something or someplace to return to, where you can study, cry, get shit done, nap, stair into the endless void call Life, etc. I usually find myself a hidden corner or table or couch in each hall to claim as my territory, then camp out in in it between (and sometimes during) classes.
- always have your earbuds.
- find a study partner, not a study group.
- don’t be afraid to ask for help from tudors, peers, professors or Student Disability services. I got SSD accommodations finally after 8 terms and it SAVED MY LIFE. usually, services for students with disabilities can get you extra time on tests, note taking help, and other stuff specific to your school.
- bring a fiddle toy, coloring sheets, chewing gun, or anything else to help you sit through class. and if someone comments on your fidget cube, glare or slap them or stab their eyes out. this is college, bitch. survival of the dog-eat-dog. or something.
- on that note, do whatever you need to get through class. and i don’t mean blackmail your professor. i do mean show up to class in pajamas, or create a crazy wall with tacked-up papers and red string and crossed-out codes, or bring a pot of tea to morning yoga. usually people don’t actually care about what you do or say or look like, so just be.
- yes, color-coding + sticky notes are always a good idea.
- take your notes on paper! we all know that computer note-taking is a gateway to distraction which leads to online impulse buys and obsessive research about probably time travel. or penguin migration habits. or what colors go best with your skin tones. just, write notes in a notebook.
- last tip! have a pre-game playlist. get hyped. energize yourself so you can make through the class, the day, the week, the term, the Life. find what inspires you and don’t forget it.
Anyways, that’s all. this got a lot longer then i had planned. hope this is helpful to at least one person!! if you have any tips you wanna add, feel free:) good luck this year, my dudes.
p.s. if you find this post helpful but you don’t have adhd but you wanna reblog anyway, chill. it’s okay. reblog anyway. just everyone be respectful and fucking nice and tag correctly. i really don’t care❤️❤️❤️
When God made me eons ago:
God: let's give this one intelligence. She can comprehend many advanced scientific concepts and cause and effect and loves learning
God: also nerf her with the attention span and working memory of a goldfish. Throw in social awkwardness and social anxiety, and perhaps some insanity
i'm back!! life update
hey!! I'm back!! very exciting news to share with y’all: I finally am getting meds for my add. it took a pandemic for my mom to realize how much I was struggling to do basic tasks. I’ve been taking adderall for two days and it’s not perfect but I was able to get most of my chores done!! :)) it’s also made me calmer and I haven’t started any fights at home which is a big plus. I'm still scared to tell ppl that I'm taking meds cause I know there is a stigma that comes with it, especially with a drug that is abused by so many, but I'm truly so happy!!
If Christ didn’t want us to eat His flesh in the appearance of bread, then why was He born in a city called House of Bread and laid in a food trough?
If He didn’t want that, why would He have said that He is the bread from heaven and that His flesh is truly food and that we must eat it? (And if He meant that as a metaphor, why didn’t He correct everyone when they all took it literally?)
If He didn’t want that, then why did He offer Himself as the Lamb of God for the sacrifice for our sins in the same way the Old Testament Jews offered a lamb in sacrifice, a lamb which they were required to eat the flesh of?
If He didn’t want that, why did He say, “This is my body, which is given for you” at the Last Supper, just before the first Seder at the beginning of Passover, at which they would have eaten the paschal lamb?
It is painfully obvious that Christ meant for us to literally eat His flesh and drink His blood under the appearance of bread and wine, and that’s why the earliest Christians unanimously took the Eucharist to be literally Christ’s flesh and blood.
It is you who lie upon the altar; it is you, your very life, within the cup.
