No, Gatekeeping is good, it prevents subversive people from ruining an IP, as has been done now dozens of times, to many deeply beloved franchises.
Star Wars, LoTR, Halo, DnD, etc etc, the changing of an intellectual property into something it isn't destroys it.
Gatekeeping is especially important considering that the subversive elements push to other and demonize the original fans of an IP, because once they are past the gates, the colonizers can't let the original natives enjoy their fandom in peace, they force them through their subversion to conform or be exiled.
Were there really D & D fans clamoring for a cartoony cute portrayal of a beholder, like they were upset that it's scary? Or was that just a thing the company did to pander to an audience it imagined would want this.

I’m a long time fan of Dungeons & Dragons, and have been playing since I was 12, they've destroyed the IP, there are no more objectively evil races, mixed racial heritage no longer exists in game, racial stats don't either.
Objectively evil races such as the Drow and Orcs are deemed problematic as the way they are depicted because it supposedly empowers essentialist notions of real-world human ethnicities.
The supervised pushed that the Drow and Orcs are hurtful as they have, up until now, acted as stand-ins for different non-European ethnicities, despite being based on European pagan cultures, and histories.
Now Orcs and Drow aren't evil, the Illithids who eat human brains, not evil, Beholders, not evil, etc etc, all because subversives cried racism.
