I just supported Where is Sayed Alawi? on @ThunderclapIt // @ADHRB
https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/61004-where-is-sayed-alawiSayed Alawi Hussain al-Alawi has been disappeared by the Bahraini government since his arrested on 24 October 2016. He has only been permitted four short phone calls to his family, during which time he is not allowed to tell them where he is being held or discuss the state of his well-being. His whereabouts and condition remain unknown. Therefore, he has been forcibly disappearance for over 10 months. Sayed Alawi's family and international human rights organizations have made repeated efforts to engage with the following institutions in Bahrain:
Ministry of Interior Ombudsman - @Ombudsman_bh
National Institute for Human Rights - @nihrbh
National Security Agency Ombudsman - @ig_nsa_bahrain
Special Investigation Unit - @siu_bah
However, Sayed Alawi still remains missing and his family is extremely concerned for his well-being.
On 30 August 2017, the world will recognize the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances. Please join us in supporting this campaign so that we can collectively raise our voices on social media to seek urgent clarification regarding the location of Sayed Alawi and the legal basis for his detention. We urge the Bahraini government to provide him prompt and regular access to his lawyer, family, and any medical attention he may require. We also urge the Bahraini authorities to release him unless he is to be charged with a recognizable criminal offence.

#ADHRB and @birdbahrain cautiously welcome the pardon of prominent #humanrights defender @nabeel.rajab from prison due to "health reasons," after serving 4 months of his 6-month sentence. While we celebrate Nabeel's pardon, we also reiterate our concern that his conviction stood in relation to acts of #freeexpression and that the Bahraini government maintains further charges against him that may result up to 10 years in prison. Here, Nabeel is pictured in the car ride home with his daughter. #Bahrain #humanrightsdefenders #democracy #prisonersofconscience #ArabSpring #freeNabeel #freedex #freespeech #sumoood #politicalprisoners (at Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain)
Around 2:30 A.M. on Sunday, at least 30 police officers raided the home of Ebrahim Sharif and arrested him. Sharif is the former General Secretary of National Democratic Action Society (Wa'ad) and is one of the #Bahrain13, a group of prominent human rights defenders and opposition figures in #Bahrain. Sharif's arrest follows a speech he delivered on 10 July, which, according to the MOI, "encouraged the overthrow of the government and incited hatred." Sharif's arrest also follows the U.S.'s recent decision to lift its 4-year arms ban on Bahrain. Today, #ADHRB staff and interns stood in front of the U.S. Department of State to call for the immediate release of #EbrahimSharif. #FreeSharif #FreeSharifNow (at U.S. Department of State)
Today marks the 110th day of Dr. Abduljalil al-Singace's #hungerstrike in #protest of the ill-treatment of inmates and the poor, unsanitary conditions at #JauPrison. Dr. Al-Singace was a prominent academic and blogger arrested for his participation in the peaceful #ArabSpring protests in 2011. Since his imprisonment, Dr. Al-Singace has been denied specialist medical treatment for his post-polio syndrome as well as his immediate need for nasal and ear surgery. #ADHRB along with 9 other #NGOs call for the release of Dr. Al-Singace for the violation of Article 19 of the #ICCPR. #SingaceHungerStrike #Bahrain #humanrights #humanrightsdefenders #stoptorture (at Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain)
#ADHRB is co-hosting a panel discussion on the status of #womensrights in #SaudiArabia as well as the implementation of recommendations made by the Special Rapporteur on violence against #women. This event will be held on Thursday, 25 June from 10:00am - 12:00pm in Room XI in Palais de Nations, Geneva. Abbas al-Samea is a 25-year-old school teacher. He was arrested after a bomb killed three policemen, even though evidence placed him in school at the time of the incident. Abbas was sentenced to death. While detained, Abbas has been subjected to cigarette burns, electric shocks, sleep deprivation, and sexual assault. He suffers from swollen gums, missing teeth, a broken nose, and internal bleeding. #AbbasalSamea #ADHRB #Bahrain #humanrights #democracy #ArabSpring #prisonersofconscience #humanrightsdefenders #JauTorture #stoptorture (at Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain)
Naji Fateel, featured as one of ADHRB's #ChampionsforJustice this month, is a human rights activist currently serving a 15-year sentence at Jau Prison on political charges. Reports allege Naji was subjected to electric shocks on various parts of his body, simulated to drowning, hanged by his hands from the ceiling, sexually harassed, and deprived of food and sleep. Unfortunately, this type of treatment is common for Jau Prison inmates. #NajiFateel #ADHRB #BYSHR #democracy #humanrightsdefenders #JauTorture #ArabSpring #prisonersofconscience #humanrights #Bahrain (at Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain)
Naji Fateel is a prominent human rights activist and co-founder of the Bahrain Youth Society for Human Rights. On 29 September 2013, a Bahraini court sentenced Naji to 15 years in prison on political charges. Naji is currently serving his sentence in Jau Prison where he participated in a hunger strike to protest the treatment of prisoners. Jau Prison is notorious for torturing its inmates with physical beating, denial of medical services, and deprivation of food. Naji was a victim of this abuse in the most recent crackdown at Jau Prison and suffered severe injuries and humiliation at the hands of Jau Prison guards. #NajiFateel #Bahrain #ADHRB #democracy #humanrights #protests #JauPrison #BYSHR #JauTorture #prisonersofconscience #ArabSpring #humanrightsdefenders #stoptorture (at Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain)

Mohammed Ismael is a #humanrights defender and member of the #Bahrain13 who was sentenced to 15 yrs in prison on political charges. He was allegedly tortured with electric shocks by #Bahrain security officers. He has been on #hungerstrike twice in prison. Help us spread the word about his case and the rest of the Bahrain 13! #ChampionsforJustice #ADHRB
Sheikh Mirza al-Mahroos, member of the #Bahrain13, a religious scholar and VP of Al-Zahraa Society of Orphans, is serving 15 years in prison and was at one point beaten in detention every day for two months. Since his arrest, his baby daughter has been denied a passport in reprisal for her father's human rights work. Al-Mahroos was also reportedly one of the victims of the #tortureprince Sheikh Nasser, who allegedly abused prisoners personally. #Bahrain
Mohammed Hassan Jawad Parweez is a #humanrights defender who advocated specifically for the rights of prisoners and detainees. As a member of the #Bahrain13 he is now one of those prisoners, sentenced to 15 years and victim to alleged torture in a #Bahrain prison. We include him in this month's #ChampionsforJustice and call for his immediate release! #ADHRB
Abdulhadi al-Mukhodher is a #Shia cleric and a member of the #Bahrain13. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his faith & #humanrights advocacy. #Bahrain #ChampionsforJustice #ADHRB
