I remember as a child my only wish was to grow up. I hated being a child. As in those days Facebook was trending and the world of social media had started, I began to think it was very cool, can have hundreds of friends, can text them and be in touch with them all the time. I badly wanted to get into social media too but unfortunately, as you know, you have to be an adult for that…then my countdown to becoming an adult started. From then for me, birthday wasn’t only a day I had to enjoy with cakes, chocolates, friends, and family…it was a countdown for me to count the years left to become an adult.
But now I have turned eighteen and I have started to get to know how stupid the kid me was. People are too fake out there. Even the photos clicked whose only purpose is to take back the person to a particular memory the photo was captured for, was just for the sake of the number of likes and comments the person gets. They hardly realized that people do it just for the sake of doing it and not because they wanna do it.
As I grew up I met soo many people who never deserved my time or my feelings. I realized that love is not found everywhere we go and in everyone we meet. Even a closet childhood friend can be the person whom you would start to hate the most. As time passes we might find people who stay along with us throughout our life or might leave us with the best memories and also with worst nightmares.
I always felt college was soo much fun and I agree to it because of the all the activities and tests conducted there, but the kid me’s fascination about college was, the very light backpacks carried by the students. I remember seeing my elder brothers carrying one or two notebooks in their backpacks and going to college in casual clothing. As a kid, I didn’t realize the fat thousand plus pages textbooks lying in their cupboard waiting for them to read it completely at least by the night before the exams. Now when I have to read such textbooks I feel the struggle that my brothers or other engineering students went through.
Now as I look back to the time where I was free to express my feelings or do anything I wanted to. I do miss my childhood somewhere in the corner of my heart. As I see kids crying just to gather the attention of the members present around them, I cry to sleep just to hide my tears from my parents or anyone around me. I see kids getting scoldings from their elders for them to sleep early whereas I get scoldings for waking up late in the morning not because I’m lazy to wake up, but because I would have stayed up late at night to finish up the overloaded tasks that I would have got the following day.
When my younger cousins say that they wanna grow up quickly, my inner me starts shouting at them to never wish for that. If I find a genie my only wish would be to send me back to the age where our only priority was to play and not to sleep, crying for small reasons rather than for heartbreaking reasons, laughing heart fully rather than faking it…to live life like there’s no tomorrow rather than worrying about our future.
But all these can be just said and it is impossible to happen as we all know this is life, we have to grow, the cycle of life has to take place and nothing can stop it. But I feel it is very important to enjoy every little thing that life gives us. One day we will all thank god for giving us this amazing life.
