The two-tiered labor system sends the message that teaching and learning are unworthy activities.
Is this a new revelation? Is the use (over- or ab-, notwithstanding) of adjunct labor the behavior that threatens academic values? This model of labor distribution is not good for a plethora of reasons, but it comes down to profitability. Sometimes I wish Dave would come in and clear the path for more full-time positions, more writing center hours, and Sunday library hours.
The changing role of the professor has created a huge new subclass of academic worker.
"The shape of academic labor is profoundly unbalanced." Nooooo kidding.
Good points--all aimed at adjuncting as a temporary condition of academic life.

I've used Prezi and it's a nice change of pace, I suppose, but I'm not sure where it fits. There's a lot of pressure (and rightfully so) to create/include accessible materials in our course design. As far as I'm aware, Prezi doesn't fall into this category, which is only part of the trouble. The other is explored here... Is fun zoom-zoominess enough to warrant this newer application?

What behaviors should professors keep in mind?
I can't post about what students need to do without asking us to turn the lens on ourselves. What do we too often forget when dealing with our students?
I'll compile responses, once they start rolling in. (They'll roll in, right?)
Conversing with your professor isn't always easy, but handling it the right way can boost your confidence (and your grade).
I'm trying this out by having students read this and the previous post, then they will summarize and respond to these ideas. We'll see if it helps avoid the "Am I missing anything important?" misstep... (2/2)

It is an interesting time to be involved in education... particularly, higher ed. We'll see how this plays out, but we have a feeling that the IRS isn't doing us any favors.
This sounds fascinating--adjuncts sharing information about pay and working conditions via online projects--and we're looking forward to exploring it further.
