Someone Like You has come to sound a bit of a cliché because of how much radio stations and tv channels have played it. So heard, and heard again, that we’ve even forgotten how beautiful it was in the first place. It’s almost like when see the Gioconda. People have seen it so much it annoys them. But when you take some time to really look at it, and not just see, you discover things you’d never noticed before. It’s a bit like that with Someone Like You. Not on the same level of course, but on its own. I listened back to it a couple of minutes ago. And I didn’t just hear it, I listened. When the song ended, when the last piano chord echoed, I realized it’s one of the best songs that have ever reached my ears.

It’s nice to think that when I’m old and grey this song will be a classic that people still love and sing all over the world.
