so i created this blog originally to post about my frustrations with SPOP. nowadays, while i definitely won't post as much as before, i might also talk about other shows, such as TOH, arcane or TADC (the last two i admittedly did not watch much)

so i'm lotus (or lazarus), i am a brown latina with BPD, sometimes i draw and write the things i like or wish that could've happened in SPOP. i like some niche stuff, such as bowkyle and kyle and adora being siblings.

When Ribbit opens up to Jax and tells her about their Mormon parents, Jax doesn't react at all. She doesn't say "I'm sorry" or even "That sucks" or anything like that. Instead the scene plays out like this:

Girl, not everything is about you, have some empathy. And even if Jax did feel bad for Ribbit, we don't get to see her face so... we can just assume

A) completely downplay their mistakes/flaws when someone points them out (whether they dislike said character or not)

and/or

B) shit on every other female character who's not perfect (bonus points if these characters have similar backstories)

Honestly, looking through your posts on spop, another problem with season 5 was all the characters it chipped.

Like on one hand, it dramatically rose the stakes of the threat. On the other hand, every character that got chipped had a lot of wasted potential as a result because most spent the rest of season that way. The reason I bring it up was the post about how most of the ships aren't well written, and went to how since spinerella gets mind controlled and then out of commission in season 5(the most relevant she's been in the show up to this point), there's not really time to make her and netossa feel like a relationship. It also means there's a good chunk of characters that can't confront or show suspicion of catra when they get back(mermista especially, given catras role in conquering her kingdom and heavily implying they murdered several people in the process given the use of the child's doll shot)

Yeah, with the exception of Spinnerella, the characters that WERE chipped were the most affected or hurt by Catra: Scorpia (personally mistreated); Micah (lost Angella and Glimmer was also manipulated by Shadow Weaver, AND their reunion was pushed to the very end); and Mermista (like you said, her entire kingdom was destroyed). And yeah, true, the writing for the ships like S/corfuma and S/eamista were even more shallow since most of the chipped characters remain that way until the end.

And it felt to me that Spinnetossa was only there to parallel with C/atradora, so not even they had a lot of time to shine on their own. Which is quite sad given they're one of the few established relationships in the show.

Jax being transfem feels like a cop-out for getting all the focus at the end of the series. They never even explicitly state it. The way they avoided even referring to Jax or Leeroy with she/her makes me believe it was just fanservice, especially since it was explained in a scene that could be removed without affecting the episode.

So someone vagueposted about me calling Jax's victims "non-men" and acting like everyone he abused were women.

So uh. No, Ribbit is genderqueer and Zooble is nonbinary. So I said "non-men". Because not every vaguely feminine character is a woman.

Jax is still a misogynist, obviously. In fact the way she barely bothers Kinger, barely bothers Caine, and even treated Kaufmo slightly better than Ribbit despite indirectly killing them both shows that.
