"Well, all right, then. I can bring you some of the ladyfingers and tea sandwiches to eat here, but don't get crumbs in the bed."

"I won't," you mumbled into the pillows, giving her a thumbs-up alongside it.

"Good. I just changed the sheets. Do you want cream and jam or something else for your sandwich?"

As you decided what to eat, you thought, you didn't have internal clockwork like she did, but she sure gave you a ticking feeling.
