EEC
Who Can Apply?
You must be working or plan to work in an early education and care program in Massachusetts. Applications
will only be processed for someone who is already working or actively seeking qualifications for a job in an
early education and care program in Massachusetts.
How to Apply for Professional Qualification Certification
You need to complete the EEC professional qualification certification application and submit it to the EEC
Professional Qualification Certification Unit to have it reviewed and verified. Once your application and
accompanying documentation is reviewed and verified, you will receive a certificate in the mail for the
position(s) you qualify for unless your information is incomplete or does not meet any of the EEC qualification
criteria. If you are missing documentation or do not meet any of the EEC qualification criteria, you will receive
a notice in the mail that explains what you need in order to become certified.
Applying Online for Professional Qualification Certification
You may apply online or by downloading the application. EEC strongly suggests you apply online because
EEC prioritizes online applications for review and you may check the status of your application online
Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care EEC
Hello friends!
Want to be EEC certified in the state of MA?
Here's how
1. go to this site and register in the data base REMEMBER THAT JUST BECAUSE THIS SITE SAYS YOUR "ACTIVE" IN THE DATABASE.. DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE CERTIFIED .. this is a confusing issue the site has.. you need to register here and send the application!
https://www.eec.state.ma.us/PQRegistry/
2. THEN go to this site and print out the application, fill it out completely, and send it to the address listed.
http://www.eec.state.ma.us/docs1/prof_devel/eec_pq_cert_applic.pdf
3. fill out pages 4-7 if applicable
4. Make copies of all docs and then send out
5. Send an official UNOPENED transcript from you school.
6. Wait 6-8 weeks and the EEC office will mail you a certificate.
You will be EEC certified and will be able to take care of children under 1st grade status.. in education fields or daycare.
It guarantees that you are a "sound" and well off candidate to be around children. :-)
REGISTER ON DATA BASE, SEND APPLICATION, WAIT FOR RESPONSE FROM EEC OFFICE. RECIEVE CERTIFICATE IN THE MAIL.
YOU ARE CERTIFIED..
I thought I would be the first to tumblr about this.. since it was a confusing process that I had to go through!!
73 out of 100 correct? I’ll take it. Lets just hope this practice test is harder than the real one. #mtel
Which MTEL are you practicing for? GOOD LUCK!!
Inital Teaching Licence MA 1-6 Elementary- additional licence
Alright, so I am certified for the state of MA
-Have my ESE elem 1-6 license Inital
- How do I go about "adding additional certifications?"
I hear that you can legit take other MTELS and add these as certifications to you current license...
One of my co-workers told me that she has an additional certification in mathematics and moderate disabilities..
How can this be? we graduated the same year?
Please HELP I'm so confused
Applying for Re-certification
How much is the application fee for recertification?
The fee is $100.00 for the primary area and $25.00 for each additional area.
I DID IT! I’ve passed 4 out of 5 of my MTELs!! The first time that I took Foundations of Reading I missed the passing score by 2 points, but I worked my butt off and I passed! I also passed Math, which man of my classmates have trouble with, so that was also really excited! Basically I’m excited to go into my last test knowing that it’ all that I have left to do! :)
Study and brush up on your history for the next MTEL you take.. The general curriculum multi- subject test is a little fickle.. when I took mine it was mostly History open responses.. my roommate however i think, it was earth science questions about earthquakes....
Definitely take a practice test if possible..
I studied with the book called :MTEL general curriculum (field 03) - are you ready to teach in massachusetts? 2nd edition

Fuck MTELS
Bull shit man. The security for the test is worse than airport security. The test is five hours long. It so fucking early in the morning. It was hard as fuck. I think I failed. Have to wait five weeks for score. Fuck you MA why are your test sooo hard
Which Mtel did you recently take.. dont be discouraged.. if the test you took has 2 parts- 2 subtest.. next time try to take them both separately.. if gives you a lot more time.. and another suggestion.. try to get a test center in a high school or something similar with small classrooms.. I once had to take an mtel in the Convention center in boston which is legit a BALLROOM.. with over 1,000 people in it...you can only imagine how annoying it was to hear all the pencils tapping.. and the very awkward "test proctor" deciding to organize chairs... in the corner of the room.. lol
And test prep books really helped me with the MTEL TOO
"Will only consider applicants with two years of full-time teaching experience. Subbing does not count."
Why, why, why does every open teaching position say this. How the heck can I get two full-time years in if no one will hire new teachers. Apparently subbing for 2 years isn’t good enough…uggggg
I hear your cries.. Try to look for part-time tutoring in the school system jobs.. like Title I positions.. perhaps.. or even long term subbing
6/12: Offered interview at Urban School Charter School requiring hellacious drive, with unpaid parking. Only allowed 15 minutes for demo lesson. Interview Friday 21st. 6/13-6/14: Stress out because 15 minute demo HOW???? 6/15: Emailed at 3pm (Sat) by Less Urban Charter School Still Hellacious...
Story of my life too.. OMG :-( It will get beter!! We.. hope!
i have spent the better part of summer thus far applying for jobs, being met with the cold shoulder and rejection. i dont know if it is me or the lack of opportunity, but i am becoming discouraged and full of self pity.
I am on the same boat with you.. 85+ applications... :-( very discouraging :-( HOWEVER be sure to try try try to get at a part-time job in a local or near by school that way you can get experience.. which is just a "dirty" word...
I hear it all the time.."we want experience" blah.. but due to our circumstances.. its all we have...
This past year I worked as a Title I teacher and taught students from grades 2-6 for pull out intervention services.. it was honestly a great learning experience.. :-)
MTEL - additional Licence?
Can someone please help me... how do you add an additional licence to your already Inital licence for Elementary 1-6...
for example- I want to add perhaps a math certification, and moderate to severe disabilities cert. do I JUST TAKE THE MTEL and pass it.. or do I need college level courses..
so confused... ?
