send me ♩ for my muse to catch yours singing in the shower
Donny was sitting in the bedroom, holding onto his and Harper’s third child. As of four weeks ago, they were parents of a baby girl named Daisy Lara Glass. Donny, the proud father, had finally gotten Harper to leave the small child in a room alone with him, and this was the first time the father and daughter had spent true one on one time. Harry and Al were napping, and a small part of him felt an emptiness without their usual clatter around the house while he was home. However, Donny finally got to spend one on one time with their youngest child, Daisy, while Harper was in the shower. Finally taking time for herself.
Donny looked at the infant, and briefly wondered how an actual human could create something so perfect, so...alive. He was torn from his thoughts by a gooofy expression on the little face of the infant, eyes scrunched up slightly and the beginnings of a grin on her cheeks. She pooped. Daisy Lara Glass pooped in the very hands that helped create her very being, and Donny hadn’t changed a diaper in a fully conscience state in years. Not since the twins wore them. He knew he shouldn’t disturb Harper, and he really didn’t want to. So he stood up and carefully walked Daisy over to the changing table and set her down.
“Okay, Don Dad. You got this. It’s a diaper. It can’t be that hard...” he muttered to himself, rubbing his hands together. He smiled at Daisy who was still grinning at him, obviously having unloaded a massive crap. “Alright...first off, you gotta remove the clothes. And then the diaper. And then you just....clean the bum.” he said awkwardly, quickly doing the first steps and looking proudly at his work. “There you go, Miss Daisy, all cleaned up. Look at your clean little butt. Man, I forgot how cute baby butts were...” he said, totally baby talking to the little Daisy. “Now to put a diaper on you.” He said, frowning slightly. The box on the changing table was empty. And he didn’t know where the other ones were stored. He checked in the cabinet underneath the table, in the drawers, everywhere he could think of while he could still keep an eye on the very small child. “Daisy, where does mommy put your diapers?” Donny asked, very gently booping his daughter’s nose. “Does she have a post it that says buy more diapers while I’m in the shower! right in front of my face where I can see it? I think she does. I think Daddy’s gonna be in trouble when Mommy finds out. But that’s why we won’t tell her. It’ll be our secret, a dad and daughter thing, yanno?” he didn’t stop his blabbering, partly because he was trying to create an idea and go with it, partly because he noticed that it only made the baby smile. “How about we wrap you up in one of Daddy’s old T shirts and then take you to the store for a diaper? How does that sound, lil D?” He was still speaking in baby talk.
Donny quickly wrapped up the child in an old T shirt that he hadn’t worn in years, securing it with hair ties and putting her in a dress to hide his sloppy workmanship. He put the small child in the stroller before walking to the bathroom, knocking gently a few times on the door before opening it, poking his head in.
He did not expect to hear Harper singing. Not the way she was singing. She was singing like she had an audience in front of her, but like it didn’t bother her. She sounded so confident and her voice was so beautiful...he wondered why she didn’t sing more. He listened to her for a few more moments, gently rocking the stoller back and forth, until the song ended. He decided to leave Harper in her peaceful state, not wanting to interrupt her. Instead, he wrote down a note on a sticky note and put it on the mirror saying he had to run for diapers and he had the baby before leaving.
