My students are making some really fantastic pieces! For this lesson, they were asked to take a light source of their choice ( candle, tea light or even a lightbulb), and with the clay medium create a form that exposes that light in an aesthetically pleasing way. They were asked to consider what addictive or subtractive processes would be best fitted in connection to their concept? What shapes, forms, motifs and/or symbols would they use to illustrate and exemplify the light? And lastly, where would it be located? Can't wait to see what they make next! #ceramics #clay #sanluisobispohighschool #slohs (at San Luis Obispo High School)

Standing Hippo " Egyptian artists decorated statuettes of #hippos with images of #Nile #flora and #fauna 🌾. Common motifs included lotus buds, flowers, marsh grass, lily pads, frogs, water fowl, and insects. The legs of most statuettes were broken just before burial to ensure that they posed no threat to the tomb owner. Museum conservators restored the legs of many examples, including this one, to show how the statuettes looked when they were made. (at Brooklyn Museum)
