TWITTERPATED (Adj.) /// Love-struck
"Kinich, you know where you're headed. Y/N, I'll walk you to your lounge area whilst we wait for the remainder of the teams to complete the team stage."
I nodded and kinich took no time walking off.
Once reaching the lounging area, I observed the contestants present. Kachina and Xilonen, as well as yatziri and meztli conversed together. Members of my tribe were present, more women than men.
Tenoch lazily chugged beer, cuauhtémoc and zyanya shared a plate of shrimp bisque, huitzilin was showing Itotia a new dance he came up with.
The chorus of noise, whether it'd be talking or laughter, was warm and inviting. It felt real, it felt like it was happening.
Snapping out of it, I approached Kachina, Xilonen, and the two others.
"Y/N! You're here!" Kachina cheered, jumping up and down with a big smile on her face.
"Mhm, its nice to see you kachina!" I waved, returning a polite smile.
"Im surprise you're even participating" Xilonen drawled in her natural mutter, tone something akin to a purr. "Change of pace" I shrugged.
We carried on with casual conversation, kachina telling us a story of how her and mualani dominated in an unfair fight.
"We took them down so fast!" Kachina exclaimed, prideful as she should be. Yatziri and meztli clapped and Xilonen crossed her arms over her chest and nodded. "I expect no less from you" I state almost casually, shrugging my shoulders with a smile.
"Hey, Y/N, you wanna go get something to eat with us? Im sure you're starved from all that fighting." Meztli suggested, a small smile tugging on the corners of her lips.
Meztli and Yatziri were like sisters, you never saw them apart. Meztli had a cryo vision, and wielded a catalyst. Yatziri had a hydro vision and also wielded a catalyst.
They were a nightmare to fight.
"Sure, why not." I wasnt very hungry, but it did give me something to do while we wait for the individual rounds to start.
Meztli nodded and Yatziri hummed.
Once we got our food—I got (natlan dish idk pick whatever u want), meztli and yatziri shared a plate of tatacos—, we found a table to sit at with Xilonen and Kachina.
"So, Y/N, how was the team portion with kinich?" Yatzrir asked after her first bite. "It was fine, ajaw was surprisingly quiet.." I recalled, my gaze drifting off into the corner of the room.
Meztli and Yatziri shared a look. "Just...fine..?" There was a pause of silence between them before they bursted out laughing.
I sighed, feeling a little disappointed. "Yeah..." 'unfortunately' I thought. "Cmon guys that's mean!" Kachina reprimanded, a look of concern etched onto her face.
"But they aren't wrong." Xilonen added in with a shrug, resting her head in her palms. "You two were so good together, what happened?"
"..." I look around, trying to find words for it. "It was a mutual agreement. I guess my unpredicted departure was what severed our "indestructible bond"." I shook my head. It was unfortunate, but fortunately...
That statement might not be truth anymore.
It was time for individual matches.
I stood next to mualani, who was nearby her tribe friends. She made small-talk with them in her usual social-nature.
Kachina and Xilonen, along with a few other people from our tribe whom I knew but didn't know the name of.
Kinich was across the arena, his arms were crossed across his chest—His usual stance. It took everything in my body to look down at the arena.
It was chasca versus some nobody named tehei, who was (presumably) from mualanis tribe.
There was a little back and forth between the two, chasca clearly going easy on her just for the fun of it and tehei laughing because...well I don't really know why but I suppose she was having fun.
Or she was having fun, because then Chasca beat the life out of her with her anemo-gun or whatever that was.
That really wasn't an exaggeration, she was left twitching on the ground and had to be carried away by medical professionals.
'Only in natlan...' I sighed internally, shaking my head.
The crowd, as if reading my mind and violently disagreeing with me, erupted into ear-grating cheers and hollers. Mualani jumped up in down, clearly pumped.
I raised an eyebrow, but smiled no less. Her energy was infectious.
The next match was soon started, Calli vs Yatziri.
Calli was from kinich's tribe, I remembered him as that guy who had a pet lizard. He was an odd guy.
Naturally, Yatziri won by a landslide.
The matches continued all throughout the span of a couple hours, before we had to stop because the sun was about to set.
Now I stand off into the corner of the room, watching the lively scene before me. No longer separated by tribe, they intermingle, conversing loudly and sharing food between each other and tables.
It was loud, so loud you could just barely hear yourself think.
"Y/N! Come sit with us!" Mualani yelled, waving her hand over vigorously. I huffed in amusement, swiftly making my way over to where mualani sat.
The table held everyone you'd expect to see; Chasca, Xilonen, Kachina, The traveler and paimon (for some reason), and kinich.
The table was practically full, and the only open seat was the one to the right of kinich.
I pulled the chair out and sat down, saying "hi" to everyone at the table. Chasca was talking about upcoming events in her tribe.
I stared at my empty cup, zoning out.
Sitting here in this room with so many people, a choir of laughter and voices with dimmed lights gave me the setting to think—even though I had been doing that the entire time.
My fate is to kill the tyrant of the underworld. I've said that many times, and I'm sure the statement is getting on your nerves, but I'm still shocked.
My entire life was built up to this. My entire life is the final factor in whether the order of death and afterlife is restored.
Even if I had done everything differently; (If I) didn't sneak out that one day (and meet kinich for the first time), If I didn't run away, If I didn't try to help kachina's dinosaur thing—
Would any of that matter?
Would my life— no, my fate still be the same?
I let out a breath through pursed lips, coming back to reality. Nobody had noticed out "out of it" I was. Nobody, except for kinich.
He put his hand on my hand, "Everything alright?" He asked quietly. I sighed a little and nodded, "yeah..." I started, "Just thinking."
"Do you wanna talk about it?"
I looked around and nodded.
The outside air had a chill that was both extremely unusual for the land and greatly appreciated. The moon was not present tonight, hiding behind the shadows of the dark. Despite this—the stars glimmered wildly.
The lack of light in the night sky made everything darker (obviously), though even with this darkness— I could still see kinich's face (take a gander as to why).
I sat by the ledge, my feet swinging off the wall of the stadium. He stood next to me, arms crossed, "Is this about lady mictecacihuatl?"
I sighed (again), "What gave it away?" I shook my head, my sarcasm and exhaustion clear as day even though it was night.
I heard kinich sit down next to me, one of his kegs were propped up while the other one hung of the ledge. I turn my head towards him; he's waiting for me to say something.
"Everything in my life..." I started, truing to find the words. "All the choices I've made don't matter, it's all gonna end up the same. If I didn't kill my parents, I'd still have to kill her. If I didn't run off, I'd still have to kill her. Even minuet things, like those flowers I gave you! If it was a different type— or none at all, I'd still have to kill her."
Aware of the fact that my statement might be misunderstood, I clarified:
"...I'm not upset about having to kill her..I just..." I trailed off, looking to the side.
"You're upset that you had no say in your entire life," Kinich finished, his gaze firm. I nodded.
There was a thick silence between us, my words hung in the air.
I knew Kinich wasn't good at comforting, or— more like he wasn't one to grace people with words of comfort, so I really did appreciate the fact he even asked if I was okay (even if that is the bare minimum).
I stood up. "Thanks for listening. I know you aren't necessarily someone who...engages(?) in such types of conversation."
"Its nothing," he shook his head, standing up.
I hummed amusedly, "So, what's your fee for such an unprompted act?"
Kinich crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow. "I was thinking 9,000 mora, considering this line of work is not my speciality."
I laughed while turning on my heel, heading back down to the mess hall. As I was turning—I caught a glimpse of the faintest smile upon Kinich's lips.
Kinich was nowhere to be found once I returned. He was probably asleep, that or ajaw got cranky.
When I got back to the table, mualani had a mischievous smile that stretched to her ears and that indefinitely reached her eyes. "You look happy Y/N," she gave a sinister little giggle at the end of her statement.
I filtered between saying "Yeah I guess I am" and "Because I am", but I ended up just saying:
Mualani laughed wildly, hand dually covering her eyes and some of her forehead. Meztli and yatziri giggled—they almost looked like they were posing for a stock image that would appear when you searched up "gossip". Xilonen seemed exasperated yet amused, while chasca raised her eyebrow with a knowing smile. Kachina just looked anxious and a tad bit uncomfortable.
In an instant, my temperature rose. "Nothing physical happened between us.." I mumbled from inside my palms. I then raised my head to pull down the collar around my shirt (or anything thats covering your neck/collarbone, depending on what you're imagining she's wearing rn).
"Check if you don't believe."
Mualani and yatziri (being the more mischievous of the duo) got up to get a closer inspection. "Wow," mualani mumbled, then sighed, "Bummer."
"Lame," yatziri drawled out, plopping down in her seat. Meztli's eyes widened, and she leaned over to "whisper" something in yatziri's ear.
I put whisper in quotations because everyone could hear it.
"Wasn't like that a couple years ago..." Meztli "whispered" with a snicker, and a high-pitched giggle emitted from Yatziri.
"Cmon guys, not in-front of kachina," Xilonen waved her hand, crossing her legs as she took a sip of whatever was in her cup.
"Well—" Mualani abruptly started, "—If you and Kinich weren't making out; what were you doing?" Mualani asked in an uncharacteristic interrogative tone.
"Yeah, what was so important you had to get up and leave for a little?" Chasca chimed in, though less serious than Mualani (which sounds odd saying it).
"We were talking." I deadpanned.
"Well no duh! What were you talking about?" Yatziri asked, rolling her eyes.
"Mm, we were talking about the pilgrimage. It's my first one, so I'm kinda nervous," I lied, adverting eye contact to appear bashful.
"You have no reason to fear! You're super strong, you'll do just fine!" Kachina assured.
I smiled. "Thank you kachina."
The topic of conversation switched (very abruptly might I add) over to Yatziri and the boy from mondstadt she had been receiving letters from.
"He sent me a picture of himself in the newest letter he sent," she muttered from inside her cup. "He's...definitely from mondstadt...that's for sure.." Meztli giggled at her comment.
"Why do you continue to talk to him if you don't like him?" I asked.
"Yatziri shrugged, "when I get his letters, I like to pretend to be a knight giving orders."
The conversation grew to a close as we all finished up our meals and drinks. The general clatter of the mess hall seemed to fall in suit. Everyone who was in the room cleaned their meals, and we all bid eachother a goodnight and headed to bed.
2246 words and nothing important happened in this chapter
Also, unrelated but I hate it when bitches who dont know shit abt biology write abt kids and their parents
"He had blue eyes and blonde hair, completely taking after his father even though you have brown hair and brown eyes" THATS NOT HOW GENETICS WORK
(Yes im aware of recessive genes and heterozygous/homozygous but yk damn well the chance of that happening is SLIM)
There was once a fanfic i read where this girl was married to 4 people and they like had a rotation of who spent the night with her
And eventuallt she got pregnant and she was like "Who will the child take after most? Will they be a mixture of my lovers?" Thats also not how that works
THAT WAS WRITTEN BY A GROWN ASS WOMAN IN THE MEDICAL FIELD
Thank you for coming to my ted talk
