Ball Night (open starter)
(Doesn’t matter if we already have a thread or not. Feel free to drop by to meet Pete and Absinthe in a casual environment. Don’t be shy!)
“One thing you have to admit Pete. These Imperial Officials know how to party”, Abs said while sipping on a glass of wine. She was dressed in her finest dress for this rare occasion of peace and celebration. Pete on the other hand was dressed in a outfit resembling the outfit of the old terran Highland clans of Scotland.
“Indeed. Too sad that we have to work so much. I could get used to this”, the large Iron Warrior said while drinking some fine imperial Whiskey. “Speaking of which..”
“No Pete. Today we won’t discuss work. Go and have fun you old grump. Enjoy life”
Pete laughed and then went on his merry way to chat with as many men as possible.
Abs remained in the corner, drinking wine and chuckling to herself about Petes flirting attempts.

Abs remained silent now, just silently listening to Amenhotekh playing the instrument. Taking in the sounds. The melody. Once she had the melody in her mind she gently tapped her foot in the rhythm of the song
Seeing the effect, he only continued on; seemingly delicate fingers pressing into and gliding over the keys, eventually he came to a stop. Now looking to Absinthe for validation, it had been a long time he played to an audience; so much so it made him nervous. Especially before someone such as her.
“Well- it still needs much more work I feel, like many things.”
“That song was so beautiful. Can i hear, it again please?”, the marine asked with a dreamy look in her eyes. She was obviously very entranced by it.
“Perhaps, more when we go on that walk yes?” Amenhotekh desperately wished to get away from the prying eyes of humans more so, He slowly stood, smoothing out his clothes as he walked round the table to stand before Absinthe; holding his hand out graciously. The instrument had been handed to one of the attending Lychguard.
“Lets vacate this city in general, outside the city is much nicer; the sky is clearer.”
“Sounds good to me. Some silence would be much appreciated”, Abs said while looking back at the ball room full of drunken and loud nobels
Amenhotekh sighed gently.
“Human Nobility are… well no matter the party they always end up the same it seems, from what I’ve heard and experienced tonight. Are you sure your crew won’t wonder where you are? I don’t wish to worry them.” Amenhotekh seemed genuine with his concern, rubbing his arm gently as he looked towards Abs with big emerald green eyes.
Abs laughed while pointing at Pete, who currently walking away with some Noblemen. “he’ll be busy for the next hours. Don’t worry. If necessary I’ll just activate my tracker device”
Amenhotekh watched Pete as he walked off with the nobleman, the implications of what was going to happen made him blush ever so slightly. "I see- well let us not get in his way and go."
Soon he began slowly in the direction of the exit, relieved that he didn't have to return to the party of gawking human nobles.

"We mostly ate isopods and other insects, but now since everything isn't as dangerously irradiated, we have more choice." He announced once
(Continued from here)
Absinthe looked onto the scene with awe in her eyes. “Wow. You really went all out for this huh? You really know how to treat a lady. I like that”
“It is only proper that I do, I wouldn’t have you disappointed or expecting less of me.” He commented, Amenhotekh gesturing towards a chair as he sat down himself.
“Please take anything you like.”
Abs smiled and sat down, filling her plate with food. “Well. There’s this saying. Love goes through the stomach. You definitely get my interest if you give me food”, She joked before beginning to eat. Her fangs making short work of the meat
Amenhotekh made sure that the bone running through the beef was still intact and that the meat itself literally fell off the bone. He took the meat off the bone, cracking it in half with sharpened teeth to get at the marrow.
“Well there’s certainly enough here I’d hope.” The Phaeron smiled, meanwhile using a longer fork to poke out the marrow.
“If you’re wondering, ‘marrow’ is a delicacy for our kind amongst other types of pudding made from animal blood and marrow.”
“wanna see a cool trick?” abs asked before collecting spit in her mouth and holding a bone into it, dissolving it on the spot. “Acid Saliva! Isn’t that absolutely cool!”
He made a relatively surprised vocialistion in reponse, he’d never seen such a thing before. “I had no idea you could do that, then again I don’t know much of humans let alone human Astartes.”
There was always something new to learn at least.
“It’s an astartes only function. Baseline humans cannot do that. Its funny tho. I can spit it at someone and dissolve their face if I so desire. Its funny”
“Aha- Well that must be rather unpleasant to watch- well, for you maybe not since you remarked on it being amusing.” Amenhotekh had seen many atrocities in his time, though thinking about someone’s face dissolving was slightly unsettling for him.
“Regardless, this instrument here.” Deciding to change to subject he reached forward to pull the metal hurdy gurdy like instrument onto his lap. “It’s been the instrument of choice in my family for generations.”
Abs smiled as her attention was turned to the Instrument. “Never seen one like that. What does it sound like? Any chance i get to hear it?”
He took to tuning it finely with a number of metal pegs alongside the instruments, a hand soon slipped to the crank of the instrument; grasping it firmly as he tested the buttons.
The drone strings were taken off the stops, gently resting against the wheel as it turned to test them - a strange metallic drone left the instrument.
“I planned to, I wrote this piece recently too when I had spare time. The arts such as music and especially poetry are prominent in my culture and are very important to lords.”
Soon the melody strings were added to the mix. As the buttons were pressed in, it created pressure on the strings as they were sounded by the wheel - almost alike a bow.
Peace was almost bliss for the Phaeron after hundreds upon thousands of years of endless wear all those sun cycles ago; though their most recent battle against the disgusting fiends known only as the Tyranids to them was small scale in comparison to how the War in Heaven felt.
Though, now was a time of peace and discussion. Contact had been agreed between two factions to come together under common cause. Something that was quite unlike the Necrontyr to do; but Amenhotekh saw it necessary to aid the cull against the prominent threat; the Warp.
Once the ship had landed, the little lord stepped out into the open air; He made attempts to see past the now ever towering Necron Lychguard to see where exactly it was they were going. Amenhotekh would have been lying if he said he wasn’t anxious about the negotiations; though, the Blood Angels had proven themselves to be a trustworthy group of humans at least.
( @ask-lord-commander-dante )
Dante was no fool. He hadn’t survived this long by making rash decisions or acting on a whim. His instincts were good, usually and he had trusted them to get him out of a situation on more than one occasion. He also knew when to make allies and when to make enemies. He wanted to make allies, especially those who would assist against the Tyranids.
He had decided to conduct the negotiations on a long forgotten planet that was technically still within the Imperium but hadn’t been visited by anyone official for millennia. It would serve as a neutral ground for both parties and hopefully assist with the negotiations. The location was set far, far away from any local inhabitants, so no one would be accidentally stumbling across them.
Dante and his comapanions watched the Necrontyr ship descend to the designated spot, and again as they ramp lowered and the occupants filed out. Dante immediately recognised Amenhotekh, and a smile touched his face. It was good to see him again. Ignoring his Sanguinary Guard, he took a step forward and nodded, “Welcome, it’s good to see you again,” he said.
Amenhotekh was happier to be in surroundings that were mildly pleasing to the eye at the very least; rather than having looked at the innards of a ship for the past week. But most of all, he set gaze upon the Lord Commander once more; after he’d pushed out from between the Lychguard - much to their annoyance and dismay.
Smaller and fleshier, yet the same being; the Phaeron peered up onto Dante, smiling felt it could never get old at this point. It felt like seeing an old friend aside from the difference in some causes and species. “Likewise, Lord Commander; you’re taller than I remembered but that perhaps is just me.”
The Lychguard stayed ever vigilant, watching over the Sanguinary Guard like hawks, even if they were meeting on good terms; they’d keep cautious.
“Please,” Dante said, “Call me Dante. I have no need for titles when among friends,” he said. He assumed that they were friends. They had fought together and their warriors had died together. He looked back at his Sanguinary Guard and told them to set themselves at ease. Of course, none of them did. “It seems that our guard are determined to keep us in check,” he said with a shrug.
“We have refreshments with us if you require them. There is a particularly delicious blend of tea that we have on Baal, I made sure we brought some with us, if you wish to sample it?” he asked.
Dante had made alliances before with other humans, and less often, with other species. He had found that negotiations and discussions of this nature went better with drinks being shared, and occasionally, food as well.
“Dante it is then, I was just keeping sure that I wasn’t being rude by not addressing one by their title.” Amenhotekh smiled gently, looking past the Lord Commander onto the Sanguinary Guard behind. Ah, as protective and ever vigilant as his own Royal Lychguard.
“I haven’t had tea before, so it would be nice to try something so different. Then again, I haven’t tried much outside of our own food and drink.” He graciously accepted the offer, deciding it would be best to try new things.
“I do feel slightly embarrassed I haven’t brought anything myself for you to have tried, I must remember for next time.” It was much of a land marking situation that Amenhotekh had forgotten smaller pleasantries such as gifts.
“Think nothing of it,” Dante said, “Perhaps, in exchange, you can tell me of the food and drink that your people have? I have not encountered any before and I would certainly like to hear about it.” He had assumed that most of the necron people - if they could be considered such - did not need such biological sustenance. You learned something new every day!
He led Amenhotekh over to a space that had already been set up for them and gestured for him to sit. It was akin to a picnic table, with a couple of spaces on either side, but far more comfortable looking than mere wood.
“Please sit, I’ll let the thralls know that we are ready for them,” he said. He then tapped at the vox bead in his armour and did just that. Sitting opposite his guest, he then asked, “How have you been?”
The Phaeron still insisted on bowing low, a sign of deep apologies for what he saw himself as rudeness, but the reassurance was nice. “It has been such a long time since food and drink has been considered, but of course I shall oblige, Dante.”
Amenhotekh followed rather gracefully, the Lychguard sticking ever closer as they approached the seating area. He allowed for himself to sit, being sure not to sit on the longest part of the headdress, which in turn would have pulled it from his head!
The Phaeron thought on the notion for a moment, before sighing gently. “Ever since the reversal process has been done; more and more make the pilgrimage to see myself in hopes of salvation. Something I simply cannot bring overnight, I however do wish it was something I could achieve.”
“It’s tiring, I have not tired for many millennia physically; actual sleep is blissful; not one instated by programming for once is nice. Though, how do you fare?”
There had been a fair bit of anxiousness before hand over the concept of food and drink. Dante hasn’t been sure if Amenhotekh and his people needed the sustenance, however if he did and it wasn’t provided then he would have felt terrible. He had erred on the side of caution and had it arranged regardless. It was the right thing to do in his mind!
The honesty with which The Phaeron spoke was like cool air after removing your helmet on a long campaign. It was unexpected but welcome.
Dante decided to answer the question with the same notion. “Weary,” he siad without dissembling, “Like you, I find I am surrounded by those who wish to ask for aid. Aid I can hardly give them. My forces are stretched thin, even with reinforcements. I cannot entertain the idea of not assisting them, but the cost is ever greater,” he said.
One of the thralls brought a pot of tea then, and Dante poured them both a glass. “Sleep would be a welcome break,” he agreed. “Don’t let the woes of an old man deter you, if there is anything we can do to help you, you only have to ask.”
The Phaeron nodded graciously, sitting neatly as he listened to the commander speak. Amenhotekh resonated with what he’d said; finding solace and familiarity in his words. “Our resources upon awakening were severely damaged if not lost; hundreds upon thousands of Necrontyr lost to malfunction and madness. I wish to have been able to help, and it pains me greatly that my people have suffered so under the Bio-Transference.”
There was a certain pain in his voice whenever he spoke of the transference itself; something he himself was almost lost to. In fact, many of his old court members had been lost to sheer madness and pessimism which forced them to break their engramic memories.
“Sleep is welcome always, though your woes are nothing unheard of even with us.” Amenhotekh assured, soon reaching forward for the glass of tea. It was warm, and smelled quite pleasant. “Old? I would have assumed otherwise, Dante. Though, we return such favours under my own and the Silent King’s order; we shall assist should it be needed.”
Dante was fascinated to learn of the necrons and their plight. He had no idea they would be suseptible to madness, malfunction he could believe but madness? He listened keenly, sympathising with the Phaeron as much as he could. “I cannot say I fully understand the details of this transference, much of your people’s details are not known to me. However, I have lost people I care for and I imagine that the pain is similar.”
“The question of my age often comes up,” Dante chuckled, “I do not knowe the exact number of years I have, but it is over thirteen hundred. Far older than any other human; Space Marine or otherwise.” The exchange of assistance was welcome however and he accepted them gracefully.
“So,” he said, moving the conversation forward and to the topic of their gathering, “Where do we go from here. Both of us have expressed the willingness to aid the other, however we should formalise this and have it set down I feel,” he said.
“In time you shall know, it was very much to a part of me as much as it is still apart of many of my kind. If you are to work with me and I am to work with you it is best to know about each other in the way of history, motives and otherwise.” Amenhotekh almost declared such a statement toward the end.
“In all due honesty over the past sixty or more million years I have lost count if my exact age as most of it was spent asleep and a few… memories have gone array. If it means much, you still are young in my eyes.” The Phaeron insisted, though he very much so appreciated the movement in conversation.
Amenhotekh looked back at the Lychguard, one of which approached with a tesseract keeper; handing it down to Amenhotekh who fiddled with it to begin with before opening and selecting some sort of device akin to a dataslate.
“Firstly, what is it you want out of this exactly? Is it solely militaristic prowess on our side or trade as well? We aren’t a massively Militaristic Dynasty like Sautekh would be, though uniting under common threat outside the Necrontyr I find no issue with.”
He began taking his own notes on the matter, normally he’d have a scribe to do such things but he felt confident enough to do it himself.
Dante nodded, “Of course,” he said. “I will share with you all I am able about my people.” The exchange of information would be key but there were factors that he would never be able to tell. Details about his Chapter that not even the Imperium knew, for if they were to discover that, they would be outcast. That was one thing Dante was convinced of!
The Commander chuckled, a rare sound indeed, and shook his head. “I have once been told that age is of no importance unless you are a wine. I think we should go with that and let it lie,” he said.
Then he was asked what he wanted out of the alliance, and he sobered again. “I would very much like this to be more than a simple military agreement,” he said, though he knew those were rarely simple. “Trade of goods would be invaluable to both of us, however information and friendship would be an added bonus. That will take time I am sure. If you are facing threats however, that military alliance will be in place too,” he said.
“That would be helpful, once we get to know you we are more inclined to share our own things; such as friendship.” Amenhotekh nodded gently, readjusting himself on the seat before looking back up at the lord commander with a rather soft and placid smile.
“Indeed so, though we’re not here to discuss age at least.” He laughed.
“I’d agree, I’m so used to Dynasties only wishing military prowess from us and nothing more. In regards of trading goods we unfortunately cannot share things such as technology; though resources such as minerals and so on wouldn’t be out of the question. Not that you would do this Dante, I just fear my Dynasty’s tech getting into the wrong hands.” Amenhotekh started.
“We know things that you might not about the galaxy as a whole, so we are willing to share certain pieces of information.”
“I understand the need for caution in this galaxy,” Dante said, accepting what Amenhotekh was saying without question. “We all have to protect ourselves from the many, many threats that are out there. Some things just shouldn’t be shared with everyone. If you do not share your technologies with us, I will not feel obliged to share it with the rest of my race, which will save me from a compromising position,” Dante said. He wouldn’t lie to his people, no matter how obtuse and awkward working with them could be.
“I was once told that information is key; there is so much we are unaware of, so anything you can tell us about the races, or state, of the galaxy as a whole, would be more than welcome. I can tell you what we know in return, but the chances are that you already know it. Perhaps we will be able to assist you in other ways. Cultivation perhaps, to help sustain your current biological form?”
“Caution is perhaps necessary in these times.” Amenhotekh added, he agreed with what Dante was saying with a gracious nod of the head. “Some things should be kept safe by their original creators, I couldn’t imagine what would happen if the Imperium got their hands on our technology.” He sighed at the very thought of it, pinching the bridge of his nose; oh what chaos it would bring.
“I know much of the Aeldari others won’t know, I know their motives and what drives them-” Amenhotekh stopped himself before it turned into something he regretted, likely a tangent about how they and the old ones left him and his kind to perish to radiation sickness.
“We would appreciate that if others are to make the change back, we only ever ate isopod like creatures and other meats we could find at the time. It was difficult to keep anything alive for extended periods of time prior to the bio-transference.”

There was always something new to learn at least.

"Well there's certainly enough here I'd hope." The Phaeron smiled, meanwhile using a longer fork to poke out the marrow.
"If you're wondering, 'marrow' is a delicacy for our kind amongst other types of pudding made from animal blood and marrow."

“I am interested in people that are interesting to be around. Physically strong doesn’t equal interesting. So even though you aren’t strong you are very interesting to me”
“I had assumed wrongly then and I apologise for my insolence, It is wrong to assume such things.” Amenhotekh bowed his head gently to apologise politely. “But likewise, I’ll tell you a story; my parents made countless attempts to find a suitor for me but none were interesting at all.”
He swallowed, in admitting this he went against several traditions, never mind Absinthe being a human.
“None are as interesting as you.”
Absinthe suddenly blushed really really hard as she realized that she was currently being courted by Amenhotekh. “Wait. You… Are actually interested in me? O-Oh wow i didn’t actually expect that. Uhm thank you”
Amenhotekh stopped the dance briefly to gaze up upon her; moving both hands to hold onto one of her’s. “Yes, and I wish to show that; I’m not actually staying down here to have dinner with human nobility and be asked all sorts of uncomfortable questions. The Lord can wait, you are much more worth my time than some human lord.”
“It would honour me greatly if you accepted this. After eating has finished we can look at the stars if you so please; I have been amongst many of them. I can tell you none are as radiant as yourself.”
“I-I gladly accept this invitation Phaeron. Your interest in me honors me”, the merc answered, smiling but very close to tears of happiness. “Shall we go?”
He smiled simply, seizing the moment to lead her toward the exit of the main hall. “Is there anyone else you’re here with?” As much as he felt terrible leaving them he was more interested in Absinthe.
On the down-low in Necrontyr; it was requested to the Lychguard that his favourite instrument be brought down from the assigned quarters. He certainly was pulling out all stops in the way of courtship.
“Yeah. Pete but we can leave him here. He can get drunk and fuck some nobles later. He would ruin our date if he knew because hes a drunken fool. I would like to enjoy our date without him”
“Ah, alright; as long as he’ll be alright.” He nodded firmly, it was also said to the Lychguard to prepare a table for the two on the balcony.
“What he would be do exactly?”
“Honestly? You don’t want to know. Its best if we don’t test fate and just don’t speak about him any longer”
“I see, well they’ll be waiting for us on the balcony with whatever you wish to eat. I must warn you I only will eat meats.” A couple Lychguard did accompany close behind, ever silent and stalwart moving in slight lockstep.
“It is a clear night tonight, so even now we can see constellations.”
“Thats fine. I prefer Meats as well. I do eat other things as well but meat is what i eat most. And it’s quite the rarity to see Constellations when visiting a hive city! That will be fun”
"We mostly ate isopods and other insects, but now since everything isn't as dangerously irradiated, we have more choice." He announced once he'd lead her up to the balcony, two chairs and a table filled with food were present alongside a strange instrument alike a hurdy gurdy.
"Ah, you found it. Many thanks Lanayah." He said to one Lychguard.
