Post by Pages: San Diego County has 2.15 posts daily and has 33 for likes, comments and share per post.  Both of their timings are way off.  San Diego is not using hashtags on their posts but San Francisco does.  

I believe that San Diego should have more posts regarding local events in the community like San Francisco does such as Padre Baseball, San Diego Chargers instead of focusing on military and car auction.  It is nice that we are waving pet adoption fees for military and vets.

I agree SF shouldn’t post much about giant baseball.  I don’t agree about posting results of the election, I think it is important for people to know a location versus results they will see everywhere anyways.  I don’t agree that they focus “too” much on community events, I think they do a good job, but maybe switch one or two things out every now and then.  I don’t agree with posting about public school, i’m not sure how that would do the county any good.   I agree SD should not just post things geared towards military and voting.  I agree that the car auction is boring but I think it should be switched for fun things to do in the city.  I do agree there should be a post about where to vote versus showing election results.  I don't agree that there should be more incoming movies in theaters posts, the post did not get much activity, would not make sense to keep posting it.

I agree with the suggestions but I also think San Diego targeted a specific audience well, veterans, which was not mentioned above.  The downfall of this would also be not targeting the whole audience of San diego either, so that is another point I would list.  As far as topics, they should add other ones besides public health, San Diego should speak more about the city itself, not just problems or resources.  I agree with what San Francisco did well too, but I think they also need to add more topics like San Diego, such as resources and other significant things besides extracurricular activities in the city.  Overall, I do agree that they should both be more engaging as mentioned.   @globalcommunicationproject

Social Media, Research Analysis Activity #1, Ph 402

The top 5 post from San Diego are good, they tailor towards the primary audience of veterans or active military.  San Diego is essentially known for all the bases we have, so it was a good tactic to target that audience with a piece about adoption fees being waived for animals.  This post appeals to emotion (pathos), and can be seen as a good resource for veterans, and their families as well who want them to do well mentally, and relieve some stress in their life.  There are another 2 posts about a veterans app and veterans day hike as well;   I think it is a good idea that they focused on military, but I also think that 3 posts was too many.  San Diego is such a large place that they could have chosen to make the other 4 posts about other great things to do in our city or issues we have to fix.  I think we could have spoken about most popular place to visit, or maybe fun things there are to do in our city. Another post could have been about water conservation and the drought we are experiencing, or maybe even about the peaceful protests and election results, because that would get a lot of Facebook attention as well.  Lastly I think it would’ve been nice to make a post that offers the public to be involved and give their opinion.  People love posts that ask them what they think of something and ask them to leave comments on their thoughts about a projection or idea going on in their city, so that might be a good way to get the page some more traffic.  

The San Francisco page has a totally opposite approach to San Diego, it speaks less about resources and more about extracurricular activities in the City.  One of the posts talks about the Giant’s game and how to get to certain places/events using bart, while another post talks about a film night that takes place outdoors. The post about the bart is attempting to guide those in the city on the best routes to take to make it to the fun events taking place during those times/dates.  I like the approach that the city is making by using transportation, not just giving details of events.  The county understands how crucial the bart is for most of the people in San Francisco since many prefer to not drive.  This is a great approach overall.  I love that one of the post the county made was a quote, it is a bit different and maybe it is not about the city in particular but many pages will post quotes every now and then that people look forward to, so it builds some loyalty from followers who will now expect those quotes continuously.  I would recommend that the city also pays attention to any issues happening.  It’s great to mention the fun things in town but I think people would also love to discuss any issues happening in their city.  I also think that this page lacks any mentions of resources, while San Diego did mention some for its veterans.  Maybe the page can talk about STD testing and HIV prevention since this city is particularly high and at risk for HIV.  I think that the city definitely needs to reconsider what some other options and important issues can be used for its page.  I also noticed that not many people comment or are active in “liking” the posts that are made.  I think they should cater more to trying to get traffic on the page so more people can follow their posts and talk more about them.  @globalcommunicationproject

Entertainment Education, Activity #5, PH402

The two songs I chose to compare are “Powerless” by Nelly Furtado and “Stupid Girls” by P!nk. Both these songs have similar topics about women and their image. The difference between the two songs is that “powerless” seemed more of calm and friendly approach on the problem of women and their concern about image. Whereas “Stupid Girls” used more vulgar words and the song lyrics were a bit offensive. 

The first song “Powerless” is sending a message that life is to short to hide your true self. I think they chose the peripheral route because it took me a while to understand the message. In the beginning she states “paint my face in your magazines.” This indicates that she has to already disguise her true self. I do not believe it violated the contract. The lyrics were clear and not “pushy.” I do not feel the message is persuasive because the lyrics were going back and forth saying to be your true self, but contradicted saying “but you are powerless what are you gonna do.” 

The second song “Stupid Girls” is sending a message that if she acts like a porno paparazzi girl then she will get the guy’s attention. I think they chose the central route because she clearly states the ‘stupid girls” she is talking about. She states that they are the ones who are laughing loud so all the little people stare. She made the message clear that she does not want to be that girl. I do believe that the song violated the contract because she calls the porno paparazzi girl’s stupid, which can be offensive. I do not think the song is effective. I felt the song was meant to put down a certain group of girls more than convince girls to not act a certain way.

I agree that powerless is using the peripheral route, I haven’t heard this song before and I had to really read into the lyric to grasp what she was saying, and listen to the actual song.  I agree it speaks about being confident in your true self but it is odd that it mentions you are powerless as well.  Lastly I also agree it is not violating the contract, she is soft spoken and not didactic in her lyrics. 

Stupid girls is definitely a contrast to the first song, with a different approach.  I agree they chose the central route, the name in itself is an insult that calls attention to the song.  I agree she violates the contract because it is offensive to some girls she may be referring to.  I do feel the song is effective though, I know it may offend some girls, but it would surely reach out to a good amount as well because of how offensive it is towards those she sees as bad role models.  I don’t agree the song necessarily was to put down certain girls, but more like their actions.  It is meant to shed some third perspective on how those actions are actually perceived by others, and reminding girls that this isn’t the way or healthy way to do things, such as vomiting to be skinny.

Sell:

I believe that the goal of this communication piece is to sell stuff because it is asking if someone is beach body ready and has the weight loss collection of pills in the right hand corner. This is implying that the pills will help someone lose weight. The destination of this ad is to increase the personal relevance of the health topic. This ad causes someone to ask themselves that question about their body, and if they do not think so, then they will look into the pills, if they choose to. The channel of this piece is display print, and it matched the intent of the piece well because when people are walking past it, it will catch their attention to read it very quickly and keep walking.

Inform:

The goal of this New York City subway ad is to inform because it is informing people that portions have grown and so have Type 2 diabetes. It also informs people of what number to call for a Healthy Eating Packet. The destination is to increase awareness of this health issue, and to show how important it is. The channel of this piece is display print, and it matched the intent of this piece well. There aren’t too many words to read, so the person walking by can quickly read what it says and keep walking. Also, it was placed in a New York City subway, so while someone is waiting for their train to arrive they can read it.

Change Behavior:

This communication piece is an example of change behavior because it shows a car accident as a consequence of drunk driving. Most people don’t want to get into big car accidents, so they will try to avoid drinking and driving. The destination of this ad is to model the behavior and consequence. The ad shows a car accident due to drinking and driving. The ad even mentions how stupid it is to drink and drive. The channel of this piece is display print. I think it matched the intent of the piece well because there are only two words on this ad. It says absolute stupidity, and the shape of the bottle in the picture is shaped like an Absolut vodka bottle. It is very quick to put together and understand the concept of this piece. People don’t need to stop to read it and understand what is going on.

Entertain:

The goal of this piece is entertain because there isn’t a big and clear message on this ad. The destination is activation and to model a certain behavior. It starts off with a big man at the top to form the word, “FAT,” then, he gets skinnier to still form the word, “FAT,” and then the last word says, “FIT.” The behavior that is being modeled is losing weight. The channel of this piece is display print. It matched the intent well because it is saying that to lose weight, you could go to that specific gym. People quickly looking at it could understand that if they want to lose weight like the man in the ad did, they could go to that gym listed at the bottom. It does not take a long time to read and understand what is being said in this ad, so display print was a good idea.

Sell: I agree that the goal of this communication piece is to sell, it does market a weight loss item and in turn exhibits what product/ type of body the consumer can expect.  I believe the destination of this is for young women who want to lose weight.  I disagree that the channel is a display print, it looks like an ad/poster in a subway/train type of area.  I agree it is a good place to put it because the amount of high traffic of that area.   

Inform: I agree that this ad is to inform because Type 2 diabetes is increasing and it is stated with a phone number.  I disagree about the destination, I think it is for overweight people who are concerned or may be concerned about their health.  The channel seems to be a type of poster that can go on a wall or a door.  I disagree on the few words, I think it’s a moderate amount of words, whereas few would be around three.  

 Change behavior:  I agree this piece is an example of change behavior, it depicts a car accident as a result of drunk driving. Car accidents are scary to see, hence the display. The ads intention is to scare people into changing behaviors of drunk driving, its short and to the point. I agree the model is simple to understand, and doesn’t need to be read too long to get it, it is effective.

 Entertain:  I  don’t agree that this piece is mean to entertain, I personally don’t see it funny or entertaining at all.  I notice that this piece strikes out to me and maybe it is being used to sell, and capture my attention for the gym.   @globalcommunicationproject

Education Entertainment, Part Three, Research Activity 5, Ph402

Where is the love by the black eyed peas talks about why the world is becoming a terrible place and so cruel in a vast amount of surprising ways.  Its main purpose to have people’s “Soul gravitate to love,” so we can be more compassionate to one another instead of so brutal and cold.  The second song, “what’s going on,” by marvin Gaye illustrates a similar point of view, questioning why there is so much hate and dismay amongst everyone, and death.  The whole song focuses on wondering why this is all happening.  The black eyed peas talk more about spreading love and being active in breaking this promise, while Marvin Gaye focuses on all the bad and wondering why it continues to happen when it shouldn’t.  The black eyed peas are more active in their stance in breaking this cycle while marvin Gaye is more passive and just watching.  The song does not violate contracts, they are simply asking people to be aware of the bad things happening and the lack of love that is not reaching people and being spread.

This advertisement is trying to sell a cheeseburger to men by comparing cheeseburger size to preference in the size of men. They’re basing a big burger as appealing to woman who prefer bigger sizes, hence men should want big burgers too. The channel is a magazine which seems appropriate because if it is properly placed in a men’s magazine then it would get lots of exposure.

This advertisement is aimed to inform you that eating donuts and other sugary things like that are a crisis for your body and not good.  It also informs you that bananas and other fruits are good energy for you and should be preferable.  I believe that this advertisement’s channel would probably be a flyer or poster in a supermarket since its by Chiquita, a banana company.  I do believe that it is successful because it will receive lots of exposure in a supermarket with heavy traffic by kids and parents and the text is easy to read since it is two words.

This is trying to change behavior of those driving near people on bikes by being relatable.  The channel is probably a billboard by freeways and streets.  I believe the channel will get tons of attention on a freeway by plenty of drivers who will read it and be more considerate and empathetic seeing these everday type of people.

This small board is supposed to entertain and make people laugh.  The channel can be considered a flyer that can be put up in a home or in a small shop. I would categorize this first clip as entertainment.  This message given by Hillary and Zach is one that is humorous and meant to entertain, there is no clear/distinct information that is formally being introduced to us.  The main objective here is to entertain the audience with the election being the highlight. 

 The piece regarding Zika would be best classified as an informational campaign.  The message is very clear and informational.  This article informs men about their risks being exposed to the virus and how it may effect others.  It gives the audience clear guidelines of what to do and how long to wait until attempting to procreate.  Overall this isn’t entertaining, it is strictly informative.

I think that the DUI video featuring Helen Mirren is an appropriate choice because everyone would agree that driving drunk is idiotic. She sends the message in blunt manner to be a wake-up call to the audience. However, even though I understand the message, I don’t think it would have effectively impacted me. I’m not a movie person, so I wouldn’t have recognized who she was if I saw it on TV. I think that would be the same for many younger viewers as well. Therefore, I fear that many people would dismiss what she is trying to say because they wouldn’t view her as credible.

I agree with this post.  Helen is an appropriate choice because we can all agree with her.  The blunt tone is totally necessary.  I do agree that I wouldn’t recognize her either as far as movies go, but I don't think that discredits her in my eyes.  There are many actors on commercials I don't recognize from movies etc, but it doesn’t take away from their message if it is done appropriately.  Therefore, I believe she is appropriate, but I disagree with the idea that she isn’t credible.

I disagree.  I think Helen did an amazing job.  The commercial was humorous, which usually appeals to any audience including younger people.  She was blunt and outspoken, which is necessary when it comes to drinking and driving.  The blunt opinion is a good hook, but the humor keeps a young audience engaged instead of just zoning out.  @globalcommunicationproject

I actually really liked Helen in this commercial.  The commercial is very straightforward but funny.  She comes off exactly as she says, frank and blunt.  I think it is important to be blunt about these kind of topics, not like other commercials that beat around the bush or make it too emotional.  This woman is very straight on and tells the viewer that it is stupid for themselves and others to drive drunk.  Credibility wise, I don’t know her as a celebrity to say much about her stance or history with drinking, but as far as her introduction, she seems to hold up to who she says she is.  Overall, I enjoyed this commercial and its message.  @globalcommunicationproject

Peta created this marketing piece that is supposed to drive its viewers to not eat chicken eggs, or chicken in general.  This poster discredits peta a ton because it is not reliable, it has no source, and the poster makes no sense scientifically whatsoever which in turn may LOSE people they are trying to reach, or have already reached because of their discredibility.  A better choice could have been a scientific fact, or documentary clip that is in fact true and credible from a specific source.  Viewers would see the source, understand it is a fact, and maybe be persuaded.

Sources, Research Activity 4, Part Four, PH402

One of the health communication messages that have impacted me most is the fact of being conscious of what I eat/how much.  I used to eat whatever I wanted or ate healthy and ate huge portions, not realizing that it still wasn’t healthy because of the amount I ate.  The aspects that most impacted me were visuals of portion sizes per protein and greens etc on a plate, and the amount of calories from those portions.  These things made me more considerate of the type of food I consume and the amount.  

Another health communication message was being active 30 minutes a day to lose weight and stay healthy.  I kept hearing about working out 30 minutes a day by walking or riding a bike or anything from tv or my friend who lost a lot of weight.  The most impactful part of this was seeing my friend who was the same weight, lose a ton of weight, and explain to me how she followed just 30 minutes of exercise each day to achieve it.  

Overall, the decision to be more mindful of my eating habits and my activeness has contributed to a healthier weight and better mood for me.  I’m glad that these messages were impactful enough for me to make those changes.  @globalcommunicationproject

This achieves both the advise and activate campaign objectives. It talks about the misperceptions we may have of what an STD looks like, what behaviors lead to it and the testing that is needed. The audience might realize what they know about an STD are all misconceptions. By stating 1 in 2 of young people will not know they have an STD, it should motivate the audience to get tested because the chance of you being the 1 that doesn’t know is very high.

The first link does a perfect job at announcing on its webpage its resources, so I agree that announce works perfectly with this website.  The second picture on advise also does a good job.  I think it’s short and sweet and to the point.  This picture explains in 3 steps what can lead to death for half of San Diego’s population.  The activate link is successful because it makes itself relatable with other smokers, they’re normal everyday people, however they suffer from the consequences of smoking.  These real life stories are relatable to push and activate the reader, so I agree that this is activating.  The vaccines picture I also agree is advocating for prevention of future illness by using vaccines.  Lastly, the STD poster does activate and advise.   This poster breaks down some common misconceptions among most young people, makes them consider themselves vulnerable, which then activates them to start thinking about these questions and getting checked.  It also advises in the process, after walking the reader through questions to consider.
