One Year

General Notes: Aeroni’s One Year Anniversary

Aerolyn almost couldn't believe that they had made it to one year. Their first year together had been full of ups and downs and just thinking about it made her head hurt. But she also couldn't imagine it any other way. She was so in love with Dani and she couldn't wait for the rest of their lives to unfold before them. She toyed with the key and ring that sat on the chain around her neck, smoothing out the black dress that she was wearing. Her hair hung in curls around her shoulders and she let out a deep breath. Their first year together was a huge milestone, and Aerolyn had wanted to make it special for Dani. But the way she was going to make it special wasn't through an expensive dinner out or anything of the sort. Instead it was something much closer to the both of them. Aerolyn had managed to get a friend to care for Alaska and Legolas for the night, opening up the room for a candlelit dinner for two. It was simple but the atmosphere was familiar, comfortable, and so them that Aerolyn knew it was perfect.

Dani smiled at her reflection as she stood in their bedroom, the promise of a magical evening in the air. She wasn't smiling because she thought she looked pretty; she was smiling because the girl smiling back at her had come so far since she'd met Aerolyn. She was so far from that girl that had first introduced herself to the younger girl- she was in a healthier place, for one- and it had been so amazing to grow together as a pair. She sprayed her wrist with her favorite perfume, rubbing her wrists together before dabbing it against her neck. Her fingers ran across her collar one last time, almost like she was touching it for good luck. With a deep breath, she opened their door and immediately was taken back by how beautiful everything was. Her smile grew at the candlelit dinner set up for them, and the moment her eyes found Aerolyn she couldn't help but squeal. "Babe, this is...perfect."

Aerolyn stood up as she waited for Dani to come out of their bedroom, rocking on her heels and biting down on her bottom lip. When the door opened, blue eyes immediately fell upon her girlfriend and a grin came about her features. She laughed lightly at the squeal, shaking her head in amusement. "I'm glad that you like it, Pretty Girl." The Switch moved towards her and placed her hands on her hips, leaning in for a brief kiss. "I know I've already said it today, but I don't think I'll get tired of saying it. Happy anniversary, Dani." Her hands slipped around her waist fully to draw her in closer. "Now, pizza may not be the most romantic food in the world; but it was what we ate on our first date and so I figured that it was alright for tonight."

Dani 's eyebrows shot up in surprise at the mention of pizza, and she nodded. It was very much like Aerolyn to incorporate the early details of their relationship into their one year. "Pizza is actually the most romantic food in the world to me. Plus add on the fact that you picked it because its what we had on our first date, and I'm sold." She leaned her body into her girlfriend's, placing another sweet kiss against her lips. "Happy anniversary, baby. Now I know that I've said it already today, but I'm never going to get tired of saying it either. I love you, Aerolyn Pearce." She snaked her arms around Aerolyn's neck. "I'm glad that we made it here." To think of all that they went through together- they beat the odds.

Aerolyn grinned at her girlfriend and nodded, glad that the girl agreed with her choice of food. "I love you too and I couldn't be happier to have you here with me, Danielle Delaney." She trailed her fingers up and down the girl's back before pulling away from her with a final kiss to her lips, tugging the girl towards the table. "Take a seat, love. I'll be right back with the food." She moved into the kitchen and cut up the pizza, placing a couple pieces on two plates and then moving towards Dani, placing down the pizza where two glasses of wine were waiting. Aerolyn wasn't normally into wine, but for tonight, she couldn't help but indulge.

Dani rolled her eyes playfully, allowing herself to be guided towards the table. Truth was, she'd go wherever Aerolyn asked her to. Sitting down, she couldn't help but appreciate the effort that had gone into their special night even more. She toyed with the collar around her neck again while she waited for Aerolyn to return. She noticed the glasses on the table, another smile tugging at her lips. It was so nice to have the freedom that they did in New York. They could go out as they pleased, drink as they pleased- mostly at home, since Aerolyn was still technically underage. Without the confinement of Roselle, the couple was able to really experience life together. Dani looked around their apartment they'd moved into, pleased with the life they'd built themselves. It was weird though without the sounds of their furry children. When Aerolyn returned, Dani felt her face light up all over again. "You spoil me, you know."

Aerolyn wrinkled her nose as she smiled when Dani spoke and she shrugged her shoulders. "I just like seeing that look on your face." She murmured softly, pressing a kiss to her nose playfully before sitting down and smoothing out her dress once more. She was a little jittery as she waited for what she had planned after dinner, clearing her throat slightly and taking a sip of the wine. Everything had changed so much since they'd left Roselle. Aerolyn felt free in a way that she never had. The people at Roselle had helped open her up, but now she was able to truly be open in a way she hadn't before. She'd already made a group of friends in New York and was just waiting for school to start so she could really move towards the future. She took a bite of pizza and let out a breath. "I still, sometimes, can't believe that I'm actually in New York."

Dani took a bite of her pizza, chewing it as studied her girlfriend carefully. She nodded, reaching forward for her own glass of wine and taking a sip of it. She loved that they were here, that she got to see her girlfriend outside of the campus they'd met on. Aerolyn outside of Roselle was more relaxed, it seemed. Without the worries of what other people's actions would mean for either of them, it was almost as if their world was completely normal. "I can't believe that we're here sometimes either. But I love it. I loved it the first time I came here, and I think now that we actually live here I'm more in love with it. But I also think that you have a lot to do with that." She took another bite, chewing thoughtfully. "I think you were destined to be here all along, Aer. You thrive here."

Aerolyn listened intently to Dani's words, allowing herself to mull over them for a little while before she nodded once. "This was always the dream, you know? Being here in New York; but I was never sure that I could actually make it happen for myself. The last year has been so instrumental in helping me become more confident in who I am and what I can do; and you're such a huge part of that. And I just want to thank you. For not giving up on me and for believing in my abilities." Her hand once again reached up to play with the key and the ring around her neck, something she did without even thinking about it. "This move was good for the both of us though. I'm glad that we're away from that school; but I'm also so grateful for it because it brought me to you."

Dani 's eyes softened as her girlfriend spoke once again, her voice filling their apartment. She raised her glass to her lips, taking another drink as she listened. She loved talks like these, the ones where Aerolyn realized just how much she had grown within the last year. Every day that the younger girl felt more confident and comfortable in her skin was another success, as far as the former blonde could tell. Dani ran a hand through her short black hair, her cheeks turning a slight shade of pink. "I never had any doubt that you could do this. You're talented, which I'm continuously blown away by every day. You're also strong. A strong Dominant, a strong woman. And for the last year I've gotten to watch you grow into this breathtaking human being." Dani reached across the table, finding one of Aerolyn's hands and caressing it gently before pulling away. "I'm grateful every day for the things that brought us together."

Aerolyn couldn't help but blush at her words, her blue eyes turning down for a moment to look at the pizza on her plate. She took a bite and then smiled as Dani's hand found her own. She nodded in agreement and then looked up at the former blonde. "You're strong too, you know? I've seen such growth in you throughout this past year as well. And I'm so proud of how incredible you are." Aerolyn murmured softly, reaching out to grab Dani's hand in her own and lean forward to press a soft kiss against her knuckles. She couldn't stop smiling, even as she let go of Dani's hand and took a sip of her drink. It was times like these where Aerolyn truly realized just how lucky she was. In the little things. Like the way that Dani smiled at her or the way that her eyes were trained on her completely when they were having a conversation. It was the little things that sent Aerolyn's heart racing.

Dani felt her cheeks darken as the compliments were now directed her way. She laughed, shrugging her shoulders almost as if her own personal growth was no big deal. "I really think that had you not come along, I never would have grown up." It was no secret that Dani had a pretty colorful past up until she met the younger girl. She had been wild, on a downward spiral, and truly unhappy. When her hand was free, her fingers found her collar. It never ceased to amaze her that she was claimed; not only did she belong to someone she truly loved and respected, but she would never have to submit to another person again. There had been a time a little less than a year ago that she was unsure if that was okay, to be limited to one person. But it didn't take long for her to realize that Aerolyn was the game changer.

Aerolyn shook her head. "You're a lot stronger than you think. You would have been fine, beautiful." Aerolyn smiled as she saw Dani's fingers move up to her collar and she let out a breath, looking down to finish off her slice of pizza. She'd come along way in many aspects of her life, one of them being her cooking, and she was very grateful about that. She wasn't sure they would've been able to survive on her cooking abilities from one year before. Finishing off her wine as well, she let out a soft breath and rubbed the back of her neck.

Dani gave a small shrug, not entirely convinced that the younger girl was right. Maybe she would have found her way eventually, but the odds were slim. And even if she had, what would have happened with her relapse had Aerolyn not been around? She had been the only one willing to say something to the submissive, to insist that maybe everything hadn't been okay. Would anyone even had cared that Dani had gone off the deep end if Aerolyn hadn't been there? "Maybe." Dani said softly, knowing that this was one argument she would never win. Aerolyn thought the world of her, and on most days it was hard to see herself through her girlfriend's eyes. At the same time though, she knew that she thought the world of Aerolyn and maybe her girl didn't always think the same. They balanced one another. It was one of the biggest reasons why they worked so well together. Finishing her own glass of wine and all of her pizza except the crust, the former blonde leaned back in her chair and studied her other half carefully. "What's on your mind, babe? You're rubbing the back of your neck. Dead giveaway." The submissive snorted, her short hair falling forward like a curtain before she brushed it back.

Aerolyn blushed lightly when Dani said that she had given herself away by rubbing the back of her neck and she laughed slightly. "Give me a second." Aerolyn picked up their empty plates and brought them to the sink to wash later on, trying to think about how she wanted to go about this. It wasn't a big action, but it meant a great deal for their relationship. She knew that she wanted to do it, but now that the moment was here, she felt her stomach fill with butterflies. Moving towards the bathroom, she looked at herself in the mirror for a moment and took a deep breath, trying to get herself to settle down. When she felt calm enough, she moved back to where Dani was sitting and smiled softly. She reached up to her neck and unclasped the chain, sliding the ring off of the necklace and then clasping it back around her neck. "You gave this to me when you were in a bad place." Aerolyn began, wetting her lips with her tongue. "But we moved past it and look where we are. It's amazing. And so...I want to give this back to you." She said, holding the ring out to Dani. "I told you that I would keep it until I was comfortable with the thought of you and I getting married. And I am. Because I know that it's going to happen one day and I trust that you'll ask me when we're both ready. So...here."

Dani 's eyes followed her girlfriend as she left the table, her brows furrowing as Aerolyn went into their bathroom. She didn't understand why Aerolyn needed a second, or what exactly was happening. The submissive poured herself another glass of wine, legs crossed as she took another sip. When the younger girl emerged, Dani's dark eyes immediately found her. It was a habit that had developed long ago, something that she did without even thinking twice about it. Confusion clouded her face for the briefest of moments as Aerolyn unclasped the chain from around her neck. When the ring was pulled off of it, the older girl's eyes widened. They'd talked about this moment so much months and months prior, but the conversation about that ring hadn't been had in a while. She nodded, unsure of what to even say as the ring she'd proposed with on her birthday- on their anniversary- was placed in her hand once more. She stared at it for a while before glancing back at her girlfriend. "Does...does this mean that you're ready?" She asked, her voice soft.

Aerolyn let out a breath as she watched the different emotions cross over her girlfriend's face and she smiled softly with a nod of her head as Dani posed her question in a small voice. "I know that I'm going to marry you, Dani. You're the person that I'm going to be with for the rest of my life and I'm completely yours. So yes. I'm ready to have that ring on my finger whenever you're ready to propose to me again." Aerolyn leaned closer to the girl that she loved and pressed a soft kiss against her lips. When she'd rejected the girl's proposal months before, it had been awful. It had hurt the both of them in major ways and the memory of that night would be burned in the Switch's mind forever. However, she couldn't wait to have a new night to remember, one where she could say yes to the girl that she loved.

Dani let her eyes fall from her girlfriend's face to the ring that she was now clutching in her hand. Her memory of the actual proposal was hazy- a common effect when one was flying high in the bipolar world. She had been manic when the idea had come to her to propose, untouchable by reality. She had been under the impression that the two of them were destined to be together, that there was no time like the present when it came to getting married. And then everything spiraled downward so quickly from there. Dani could clearly remember the hurt she had momentarily felt before the anger had taken over. She opened her hand, examining the ring that had hung around her girlfriend's neck for months before placing it on the table in front of her. "I love you so much, Aerolyn Pearce. So much that my heart soars the moment you walk into a room. For the last year, I've fallen in love with you every single day. From the moment that you started telling me little things about yourself, I was falling in love with you and didn't even realize it." She reached out for Aerolyn, taking her hand and tugging her closer. "You're my girl. And one day I will be dropping down on one knee and asking you to marry me. I can't imagine anything I'd want more." Her eyes landed on the ring once more, and she smiled. "And now it's your turn to be surprised. For so long this ring has been a promise of one day. And now that it's here, I don't want you to see it coming."

Aerolyn grinned at the look on her girlfriend's face, enjoying the fact that she had been the reason for that smile to appear. If she could make Dani smile every day for the rest of her life, she'd be happy with what she would accomplish in life. She allowed herself to be pulled closer to the submissive and continued to listen to what she had to say. Each word had Aerolyn's heart feeling more and more full of love and happiness. One of her hands lifted to cup her girlfriend's cheek and she leaned in to press their forehead's together, an action that she found a lot of comfort in. "I can't wait for that day, beautiful. And for the record, just in case there was any doubt, I love you too." They'd come so far in the span of a year, and she knew that there were going to be many adventures and trials throughout their lives together, but she was confident that they were strong enough to make it through. If she hadn't been confident in that, she wasn't sure that she would have offered Dani the collar. But she had, and here she was offering the ring as a sign that she was ready for more, because she had faith in them. She had faith in Dani.

Dani scrunched up her nose before closing the small gap that separated the two of them, and kissing her. When she pulled back, she couldn't help but laugh a little. "There was never a doubt in my mind that you love me, babe." She rose from the table, locking eyes with her girlfriend as she unzipped her own dress. She'd purposely worn nothing beneath it- even though she wasn't sure what their evening included, she was certain of how she wanted to spend a part of it. Dani smirked, grabbing what was left of their bottle and picking up the ring that had been given back to her. Already she was thinking of proposing- ways to do it, when to do it- and she couldn't wait until the moment was just right. But for now she was going to put it someplace safe and make love to the girl she was going to spend forever with. She motioned for Aerolyn to follow her, making it a point to sway her hips as she made her way to their bedroom. "I think it's time for me to show you just how much I love you."
