the war is over

I never know whether it’s the mirror or the reflection (my enemy), or when the Cold War between my eyes and my vision began but tonight I got tipsy, stood on the balcony and stared at the man that could make me unvow my celibacy, who could divorce me from my thoughts and for the life of me I can’t recall whether he goes by Jack or Daniels.

i will know who you are when we meet

When I imagine true love, I’m standing in the kitchen at the sink, in a pink dress, fumbling over greasy wine glasses and lust-stained plates. The second-hand runs past the minute-hand on the clock that eagerly awaits your swift return to my arms but as it ticks I hear alarms, bells, charms, penny whistles going off in my ears screaming “Why are you here? Why do you even care about the state of affairs at this very humdrum sink; you spent twelve years being taught how to think, and then some, and all you can do is envision this paper doll cut out of a life where you constantly come home from playing wife; when you take off your dress at night to do enjoy the sight of the 2D lifestyle you’ve created or have you been sedated by the constant reiteration of reality as a formality for this compilation of situations we look upon with meaning” and suddenly, I’m leaning against the sink, glasses limp in hand and I can’t understand whether the thought bore forth from my head or spurred from my heart and it’s not so much that I cared of its origin as its destination as it led me down this path of absolute aftermath without a chance to recall the fight so that I might have a glance at this image I keep so desperately trying to grab when you walk through the door and I am once more at ease.

many moons spent reflecting on the oceans in your eyes

I want to wake up one day and have you leave a poem on my pillow. I want you to have a thought about everything I say. I want you to have your own thoughts but ones that I can understand and have something to say about to. I want to wake up and find you've been watching me sleep. I want you to want to do the things I want. I want to be able to want to do the things you want. I want it to be more than love at first sight, I want it to be love at every sight. I want it to mean something from day one. I don't want to feel selfish for wanting so much from you. I want you to make me feel selfless and selfish all at once. I don't want to make you feel whole, I want you to be whole all on your own first so that having me isn't necessary to your life, it's just the main accessory. I want you to make me feel comfortable and confident. I want you to remind me that I don't need you to make me feel like me but that I want you to make me feel like me.. I want to be able to ramble and feel good about it. I want to feel good about it. I want you.

There are some things I will never be able to say, like how it felt.

However close though, the gaps between our lips only grew; we were not intertwined, not enmeshed

Treasure Hunt

It’s not that I don’t want to mesh my north with your fingers, Curl your tongue around my lips, Suckle on the nectar of your sounds that fill my east, I just want to be (two hundred, And eighteen) Degrees away from here.

Something I found in the closet.

Let the words dry out on your lips. Let your knees begin to give in Because I am suffocating on my pillow, I'm choking on thin air, And I don't want to fight for anyone else's cause. I think it's safe to say I'm holding you back, And all of your substance is all that I lack. The lights shimmer on the city, And I think I'm sitting pretty, Yet you glow like a god. Funny you're the broken one but I'm the only one who'd change shapes just to hide in this place.

I can't stand the sight of copper coins on the pavement,

of dollar bills in the gutter,

of crushed bugs on window shields;

and I kinda want a dolphin to ride to work

because work is just the office space I've arranged in my mind

that accommodates the multiple personalities that can't seem to share the only keyboard coming out of my fingertips.

Isn't it enough that I steep in your blood to draw the tannins of your love out?

Isn't it enough that I can't seem to hold on to this infernal idea of temporary insanity; that if I must be plagued by insanity, it's an all or nothing do,

And of course, by insanity I mean love.

I reflect upon the sculptures I've made of you out of the cotton wool drenched in nitrocellulose dissolved in a solvent of ethyl acetate. I reflect on the deflected fragments of light that fall on the shards of glass I shattered so that I'd stop seeing your smile in the window pane.

This photograph was first published in the book  ’Abeceda - Dusevniho Prazdna' (The Alphabet of Spiritual Emptiness), in which Tmej portrays the experience of captivity in a Nazi forced labor camp, from a rare captive's perspective, through images loaded with furtiveness and despair.
