kryptoniian:
Not being human could have its advantages, but being Kryptonian wasn’t always so different. There were times where his breath stalled in his lungs and his heart stammered in his chest. Moments where he felt like he might actually be dizzy, and he had to double check just to make sure he was still on the ground. So far all those moments happened around the woman in front of him. Her smile, her laugh, the gestures she made, the way she spoke. Every ounce of who she was did that to him. It made him feel light as air, which considering he could fly, wasn’t exactly easy.
Knowing that he’d wanted to marry her was as easy as knowing how to bask in the sun. The fact that he’d worried over the moment, when literally any moment would have been just as perfect was just like him. He should have known better, because regardless of what or how, the important part was that he got this answer.
Instantly his face broke into a brilliant smile, and he actually let himself breathe again. The night air feeling crisp and clean in his lungs, as he beamed up at her. Like daylight had suddenly replaced the starry sky and he was taking in the sun.
It didn’t take much to lean up and kiss her, just a slight shift forward and his lips pressed against her before pulling back again, “I’ve been dreaming of those words for weeks now I hope you know.” He chuckled, and suddenly seemed to remember the ring in his hands. “I um…I made it myself. It’s like my ma’s.” It was small and simple, a single stone on a delicate golden band. “May I?”
She couldn't believe this was happening. Not that she didn't want it to, or that she didn't want this ---- she just was so surprised. Krissy was definitely the person who dreamed of this moment for most of her life. Sometimes it was all she could think about in the deepest pits of sickness. Daydreaming about anything happy. Or talking to Mat about it. Mat. He was going to actually die. If she didn't die first.
Of course it wasn't what she imagined. It was simple and easy and natural. It was perfect, and all she could think about is how happy her parents would have been. But she couldn't concentrate on that for too long because Clark was distracting her with a bright smile and it was quickly followed by a kiss.
And the sensation that she was actually melting.
"Why did you wait so long then?" she asked softly, almost too scared to blink. As if she did, this would disappear from her existence. That she would be back to a world without color --- without him in it. But the ring pulled her attention away and his explanation made her chest hurt. She really wished she could've met his parents, and vice versa.
That was about as much emotion as she could take because she started crying, putting her hands over her face. It was dumb and it was embarrassing; but it wasn't like Ms. Darling was the most steady person anyway. "So-Sorry... I just... I'm..." I'm happy is what she wanted to say, but she couldn't get the words out.
And the more she tried to talk, the more she cried. It was a horrible cycle. She took a deep breath before nodding slowly. "Of... of course you may, silly."
