I’m drawing up replies to some messages and it got me thinking. one head cannon I have is Wukong had a hand in writing jttw (mostly the chapters talking about him as the majestic and handsome monkey king, and macaque chapter)

And it got me thinking like did he actually come out of the egg full grown or did he make that up

In the book he started out the size of a "small playing ball", and grew to be just under four feet tall (Most monkey species in China, especially macaques, are two feet all or shorter.). He could talk, walk, and forage for food on his own. Being very precocial for a monkey.

China has a lot of ball games, and actually has the earliest records of a kicking ball game. There are several ancient ball games in China, and the size of the balls used went from just smaller than a soccer ball to a golf ball. I found some Chinese ball games like cuju and chuiwan as examples. So do with that as you will. (Oh my god imagine, IMAGINE, Wukong the size of a fucking golf ball I CAN'T- God he would be so fuckin cuuuuute.)

He's always depicted as an adult in LMK, both depictions right off the top of my head are in the pilot. MK drew Wukong, and Wukong used his illusion powers. It wouldn't be that far of a stretch to say Wukong has been altering people's perception of him. Regardless, that has been my headcannon for a long time - he just doesn't want people to know he was a tiny wittle rascal. The smaller he is the more embarressing it would be for someone to find baby paintings of him.

So what's it like at the dentist for any of the kids in the daycare AU? I don't imagine their parents even believing in dental health, considering all that's Wukong has lived in isolation and has instant regeneration, and macaque's has been dead for a long time. But what about their children they aren't immortal.

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.

Quick tips for writing Sleep Deprivation 

☽ Memory becomes absolute garbage. Like “why am I in the kitchen?” garbage. “What was I saying?” garbage. Their brain is running on buffering screens and regret.

☽ Fine motor skills? Ha. They’re dropping everything. Pens. Phones. Entire moral compass. They’re basically a malfunctioning claw machine.

☽ Hallucinations creep in. That jacket on the chair? Suddenly a person. That noise? Definitely doom. Everything becomes mildly haunted.

☽ Time gets weird. Five minutes feel like a year. A full hour disappears and they swear they blinked wrong.

☽ Irritation skyrockets. They get mad at chairs. At air. At gravity. At the audacity of other humans continuing to exist.

☽ Their voice sounds weird. Slow, scratchy, like they swallowed sand.

☽ They walk like a drunk baby giraffe. Walls suddenly jump closer. Floors rise unexpectedly. Coordination said: “I’m out.”

☽ Zoning out becomes a hobby. They stare at random objects like they’re trying to understand quantum mechanics.

Had a little daydream of bai he and Wukong from asphodel au(newborn bai he), single dad(toddler bai he), and comfy au(adult bai he) all falling into each other aus (musical chair style) so each au gets see what Wukong and bai he are like in the other 2 au

Then in order to get bai he and Wukong back to their own respective universes, a cosmic entity has macaque of each universe point at their bai he and Wukong and say “that one’s mine”

For bai he, all the Macaques pick their own kid respectfully no problem.

For wukong tho, asphodel wukong treated all macaques he interacted with the same as his, and love bombed them

So when the single dad and comfy au Mac have to pick, both are like “nah I don’t want my wukong. Gimme the wukong with eyebags and anxiety”

And it slowly turns into that story with the golden axe

I have another question regarding chronic pain. Does alcohol usage help numb the pain for a short period of time?

Instead of the buzzy, floating feeling an inebriated person feels when they start to feel drunk, is it just worse pain for someone with chronic headache pain?

I’d assume the hangover amplifies the already existing pain, so it’s not ideal but I didn’t know if the pain gets worse before the alcohol leaves the system of not.

so, short answer: yes, alcohol suppresses pain signaling in the brain and has been used to do so historically, but it comes with a lot of risks and is a poor long-term solution.

disclaimer: this post is not meant to shame anyone who struggles with addiction, struggles to manage their health in conventional ways, or just plain likes drinking.

people try less-than ideal methods to manage health when symptoms become too much for too long, and drinking/being intoxicated can also just be plain fun, but addiction is a serious concern and needs to be discussed in a scenario of potential long-term alcohol use.

so, long answer:

i cannot speak to the effectiveness of alcohol in managing pain from chronic headaches/migraines specifically, but i can speak to it's general use as a method of pain management.

alcohol has historically been used to reduce pain in the past prior to more conventional painkillers, but it is a very temporary solution that cannot be recommended in any sort of extended use form.

the reason alcohol works for pain management is because alcohol suppresses normal brain signaling, including pain signals, so your brain receives less feelings of pain despite the levels staying the same.

the most obvious issue with alcohol use as a pain management is the risk for addiction, and it's unfortunately common for people with chronic pain to become alcoholics or addicted to other substances for this exact reason. when nothing works for long enough, it becomes much easier to try just about anything to numb the constant pain. it's hard to explain to people who don't experience chronic pain just how mentally and physically draining it is to hurt all the time. this pain reduction on top of the "feel good" feeling alcohol can bring some people makes it more likely for someone to become addicted.

pain signals returning after alcohol leaves the system can feel worse even though it's likely similar to before drinking mainly just because going from a perceived lower level of pain back to the normal level of someone with chronic pain sucks. so, it becomes even more likely for someone to keep drinking (or using another substance) because of that relief. i see this even on a small scale after getting my chronic pain under control with more conventional means—missing a single dose of my medication during the worst of my flares brought me right back to square one in my pain and i was miserable. add a hangover to that, i can understand why people pick the bottle right back up. it's often said that the "best" way to cure a hangover is to just drink some more. (obviously this is not actually true, there are much healthier ways to cure a hangover, but alcohol does grain pain relief after all.)

on top of the obvious other problems that come with chronic drinking like poor judgement and behavioral/impulse management that comes with intoxication, alcohol is also just... bad for you? it's rough on your organs, especially your liver, brain, heart, and pancreas, when drank in excess and/or high frequency.

so, all this to say, yes alcohol can and has been used for short-term pain management, but you're also right that it's not an ideal solution.

Petty Queen Macaque Au

Some things about my last chapter.

I wanted to share with you guys the monkey lore I was spiraling about and how I used it in my previous chapter! :)

(Please note that some of these facts are about different species of macaques, namely the Rhesus Macaque and Japanese Macaque. These traits often differ between monkey species, but I chose to take inspiration from multiple to better fit the story.)

First up: Stress Relief

Often just being able to see other monkeys getting groomed helps them calm down. So in Wukong's case where he can't seem to calm down hints at a deeper problem with how he processes stress.(Possibly from trauma)

The social hierarchy:

With how I mentioned the state of Wukong's coat, it was very unusual for a monkey like him to get matted fur. The fact that he does have it parallels the way his influence in the kingdom has faded over the years. So when someone like Macaque, who is very high in the social hierarchy, grooms Wukong he is not only restoring a bit of Wukong's pride, but also reestablishing the previous social standing he had.

Conflict Resolution:

Grooming was a way they both frequently used to resolve their feelings, especially when taking it out was hard.

"They used to groom eachother even after flinging one another off mountains"

This part was an example of where conflict resolution was used where a conversation most likely would've helped alongside it.

By having Macaque offer to groom him, it was a show of how they're taking slow steps to becomming close again.

Cultural implications:

When I read this, it fit unbelievably well into why Wukong preferred Macaque to be the one grooming him. Macaque has been around for almost as long as Wukong has and is probably the only one who remembers how to groom in the way Wukong was used to. The kingdom's way of grooming had grown over the years with the introduction of other troops and the mixing of traditions, but that way that gave Wukong so much comfort in his youth was something only Macaque and a handful of others could provide now.

It's a sad reminder of how the culture evolved without him while he was stuck under the mountain.

Vocalizations:

Since grooming establishes social bonds, strengthening friendships and courtships. The sounds are different depending on the age and relationship between the 2 monkeys. Macaque and Wukong are the only ones truely around the same age and are thus the only people who can truely express these vocalizations as equals to each other and not elders. Also the vocalizations for courting are also very specific.

My headcannon is that the rest of the troop had assumed they were courting for multiple years before Wukong got imprisoned. The constantly being around eachother, the peaches they shared, the insistence to fight alongside eachother so often, all of it was starting to make them suspicious. So when Macaque showed them the document and they saw he had taken over Wukong's room, very few people questioned him.

I lost the screanshots for these, but there are some things they didn't do fully wich failed to complete courting.

That being the gift giving (though there was definitely a littlebit of that) , scent making, acrobatic displays and something similar to batting their eyes as a form of interest.

Something that is important though, that Wukong did unintentionally, was stealing.

Stealing is a rather common way to impress a potential mate and what is more romantic than a whole bunch of celestial whine?

Obviously they have bits of demon courting to do too, like courtnapping, but they'll figure that out.

writing advice for characters with a missing eye: dear God does losing an eyes function fuck up your neck. Ever since mine crapped out I've been slowly and unconsciously shifting towards holding my head at an angle to put the good eye closer to the center. and human necks. are not meant to accommodate that sorta thing.

other things I'm bitching about but which could still be useful as writing advice for 1 eyed characters:

2. they're going to favor their sighted side, obviously, but it doesn't always manifest in the way you think. when I walk down a hall I walk much closer to the wall on my sighted side than on my blind side. which is the opposite of how it might seem logical to do that bc it means the world at large is on your bad side, but the reason is I can't fucking See the wall if it's right next to me in the blind side and I end up knocking into it.

3. door frames and poles are my enemy. If your character is smart this will not be a problem but for me it is. I am King of walking into shit I could absolutely see but couldn't tell how far away from me it was. on this note, their blind side hand is getting bashed into every jutting out thing in a 5 mile radius.

4. having 0 depth perception is less of a big deal than you'd think it is. Especially with driving. I've become a Much safer and more wary driver because I can't tell how far the other cars are from me. however I fucking suck at parking now. because I can't tell how far the lines are from me either.

5. you know how people who lose limbs get phantom pains? that happens with eyes too but like. phantom sights. for me it's like. a lot of bugs. like every so often my brain will just put something suddenly skittering beside me there. hate that.

6. it is completely possible to "get stuck" somewhere because your ability to tell how wide a space is is just Gone. shopping isles especially where bumping something or Someone is matter of embarrassment or potentially breaking something. it can be legitimately paralyzing and also irritate everyone around you because they can tell there is Plenty of space for you to get your cart through even if you can't.

7. if the eye is still in their skull it can still be the normal kind of painful. Glares off of shiny surfaces causing weird sharp pains you can't figure out the cause of are genuinely one of gods greatest tests of my patience.
