Ok so my graph has gotten to big but I do want to also include:

Hiphop + EDM + Emo = Scene music, but also Hyperpop

Pop has a * because it keeps eating other music genres. That's why you have pop punk and pop rock and pop country and hip-pop.

EDM + Blues = R&B

I've said goth but honestly I'm lumping in specifically New Wave, Dark Wave, some but not all Post Punk, and Industrial here. Death rock has been left off the list for the crime of being too niche.

A lot of these shifts that don't seem to come from a fusion of two genres happen because new technology emerged. Rock -> metal happened because of down tuning and the emergence of the electric guitar and the electric bass. Disco happens because people start figuring out track looping and Synthesizer technology as music recording gets more sophisticated.

I'm focusing a lot on the hardcore family of music here simply because that's where my special interest is and where my blog focuses and also to simplify the chart. Also because I made the chart by typing so... You know
