my take away from vancouver’s miraculous phase 2 is that the negotiation/signing process, rather than a straight up selection draft, worked in our favour. sure, our offerings may be sparse compared to other teams, but it’s not like we have no valuable players whatsoever. I don’t doubt that offers were extended to goldeneyes, though a likely combination of 1) a lot of our top unprotected players being hometown girls and 2) the looming anticipation of kk harvey on the horizon led to none of them signing elsewhere. and I think its a great sign that people are wanting to stay, that no one is itching to leave! that just means it will hurt more in later phases when tough decisions will have to be made.

good news is we get to protect 3 more before phase 3!

Ok so phase 2 is officially over (I think?) and the goldeneyes lost nobody. I’m pretty sure it was just a perfect storm of their most valuable unprotected players being not considered good enough targets to offer an EFO to (which would force them to leave) and then desirable players having a reason to prefer to stay in Vancouver or had uncertain futures in the pwhl

- Claire Thompson: the most likely EFO target but we are not even sure if she is going to be in the league next year or if she is, how many years she will stick around before returning to med school

-Jenn Gardiner: from Vancouver and has open talked about wanting to stay in Vancouver plus not a high up efo target

- Hannah Miller, Nina Jobst-Smith signed players from Vancouver who probably want to stay in Vancouver

-Ashton Bell: Vancouver’s capitan who is dating Nina. Probably wants to stay in Vancouver

That being said players I’m surprised did not get signed by expansion teams are: Soupy, Tereza Vanisova, Izzy Daniels, Gabby Rosenthal.

Im sure they will lose a bunch in phase 4 because I literally cannot see go the can’t with restrictions on how many players team can lose and how many other teams have already lost

I also think that the strength gap is at least partially manufactured women would in fact be stronger overall if little girls were encouraged to do physically taxing games and activities and eat their fill while they’re growing vs having to constantly diet and be sedentary indoors (or god forbid do intense cardio while under-eating). The amount of adult women honestly afraid to lift weights bc they think they’ll get bulky as though bulking isn’t a full time job that athletes have to spend all their time on and anyone on earth gets shredded from just using their adult muscles for their intended purpose, girl your bone density 🥀
