My little nightmares hot take is that IN MY OPINION THAT IS BASED ON MY PERSONAL PREFERENCE i think the nowhere was scarier when i knew nothing about it
nobody knows my tumblr acc exists so i can post this without shame
I have nothing against the comics or LN3 or the sounds of nightmares, nor do I think any of them are really that bad (LN3 was weak in gameplay and story but low and alone are so adorable they carry it) but tbh i think the way they expand the world of The Nowhere is kind of spoiling a lot of the horror TO ME (IN MY OPINION).
I feel like the world of LN has always been at its most frightening when it is at its most confusing. The allure of the first game to me was the strange, dreamlike surreal world of the maw, and the fact that we didn't really know how or what the world was, and that made the maw and by extension the rest of the world seem more intriguing to me personally
LN2 also was surreal and dreamlike but you also had the added element of Mono having some kind of special TV related powers, then becoming The Thin Man at the end of the game, which to me added another layer of mystery around the other monsters in the game. Where they also once children? Why do they act the way they do as adults? Would that happen to any child who grew up in the LN world? to me it felt more alluring
but with LN3, the comics and the sounds of nightmares podcast I feel like I know too much about the world of the nowhere and its lost a lot of the allure and fear factor to me... Like, now we know how to enter, who brings you there, how to exit, that there is an exit, how the residents are made, that only children can enter... I feel like its just too much info if that makes sense... the only character that I feel has kept that unknowable allure is the ferryman, but all the other residents have kind of had some of their scare factor peeled away for me, because now I know that they're just reflections of children's fears made manifest in the nowhere.... it just really sucks because I love this series to death but I feel like some of the newer content has just pulled away some of what I enjoy about the series... oh well.
TBH i can %100 get adoring the new additions to the world, its just really not for me. also, for as much as I dislike what the sounds of nightmares added to the series, i gotta admit that the name "The Nowhere" is awesome and auraful so they do get credit for that good job bandai namco
