Hello everyone,
As you may have seen, I was recently given a ban from the group. This was largely due to a friend of the mods wanting to act on an old grudge. Despite the mods themselves admitting the reasons I was reported and banned were largely false and invalid, they have decided to uphold the ban.
Given the fact that they seem to be retrofitting the reasoning for the ban, it seems to me that the driving force behind this is pressure from the assistant mod, rather than legitimate concern.
I have broken no rules, communicated with others and asked permission, and have still been punished.
I doubt the mods will change their mind on this topic, which is why I’m posting this. If you see someone posting something you don’t like, speaking to them and asking them not to do it is not a crime, it’s healthy communication. You cannot expect others to know what you’re okay with if you never tell them. Moreover, it’s clear that this is not the true reasoning behind the ban, given that others do the same and more, without any such treatment.
This is purely the result of a petty grudge, and I’m sorry that I can’t interact with you all anymore. I wish the mods had handled this better, but they didn’t.
It makes me sad to know that the community I’ve been a part of for years is taking such a turn, since Isola was supposed to be a fresh start with responsible moderation. It isn’t.
i’ve been in communication with the mods about this. after two weeks of waiting, they conceded that the original reasoning behind the ban was entirely unjustified, but decided to uphold the ban on account of a completely new reason which essentially amounts to, “yon is fine if people communicate with her, but broaches topics some find uncomfortable, thereby forcing that communication to take place.”
given that yon is careful to ask when getting into sensitive topics, and includes warnings on her blog that she will deal with those topics, it seems unreasonable to put all the blame on her in this matter. the complaints raised were by those who refused to communicate earnestly, and as a result yon has been made a pariah and exiled from the community.
she is just a person like anyone else. she may talk about subjects some find uncomfortable. she is not the only one who does this. she is, however, the first to be punished for doing so, especially with almost no warning. the mods have never attempted to discuss the matter one-on-one with yon, and only responded to my complaints after two separate promptings. the lack of transparency in this matter and seemingly arbitrary use of overly harsh discipline should be a great cause of concern. if yon can be punished simply for talking about unpleasant subjects, anyone can.
