"Okay, so, I’m genuinely curious here, in what part of that sentence did you hear ‘I love Agent Ward, I scribble his last name after mine in my diary and I want to have his babies someday’?"
"Well... It wasn't exactly a deduction worthy of Sherlock Holmes." English returns smugly, "Agent Fitz is... well, Agent Simmons- Coulson's definitely not your type, Captain America is well out of your league, and- despite my good looks and natural charm, it's definitely not me you were taking about...."
"And that leaves one candidate... Ward."
"But it wouldn’t be blowing my cover. Because the only person who would know I was the Red Skull was you…and you’d be dead." She smirked. It really wasn’t fair to toy with people like that…but with the world falling apart around them, she had to have her fun somehow, right?
"We’re checking to make sure the various bases are secure. See how many we hold verses how many they hold. So…I’m guessing we hold this one…for now."
"Dead? That's what they told me I'd be when I stranded in the middle of the Kalahari Desert with nothing but a toothbrush and a pack of mints... And I still made it back to continental Europe before Christmas..." English replied, a proud grin on his features, "But, banter and one-up-man-ship aside, I think - as you say, it's safe to say we hold this one."
With any luck indefinitely... Not that he he'd been one that luck held out on.

[ Charlotte tosses a folder to the desk at which he sat, standing in front of him, hands on her hips as she began to speak ]
“ You are to read the documents encased, and to run the program included on the flash drive. You are not to run the program on any home computer, but S.H.I.E.L.D. technology, and other encrypted devices only.

English quirked an eyebrow, his index finger resting on the folder in front of him. "Of course- crystal clear and clearly crystal-
"... these documents are in the safest hands in SHIELD."

"What am I needed for?" Natasha was tired and annoyed that this man had woken her. "I do own a phone, Agent English, so next time you may want to call."
"Frankly-" He began with a confident hand gesture which degraded into a meek shrug. Unfortunately, there wasn't anything he could do to soften the inconvenience. He had orders. And that was that. "I have absolutely no idea. But, Agent Hill was rather insistent about it. About as insistent as she was with her death threats regarding that I ensure the highest level of secrecy, and radio,phone, yogurt pots on string silence."
".. It's all silly really, reminds me of those shenanigans in Budapest."

Relieved that his skull wasn't a pink smudge on her wall, English took a moment to compose himself before offering her a respectful bow.
"Agent Romanoff-" It wasn't often that a SHIELD agent met one of the top Agents, let alone an Avenger to boot. "Agent English. Apparently, you're needed- unfortunately I'm the delivery man."

Natasha had been woken up by the sound of the front door being closed. She grabbed her gun and made her way out into the hallway. She raised it and aimed it at the figure standing in the living room. “Move and I’ll blow your head off.” She warned.
