Groaning, Lucy stretched her tired legs before resting her cheek against the desk dejectedly. She and James had been tasked to stay even later than their shift required them due to having to do some paperwork which, apparently, they should have done days ago. Lucy was tired, cranky with her vision getting blurry from exhaustion and she didn’t want to be stuck here any more than he did, yet here she was, with two cups of coffee and a chocolate bar already finished. “You know, partner-” Lucy hissed as she sat up straighter and looked him straight in the eye. “You may hate my guts but you’re still supposed to help me with these,” she angrily said, gesturing towards the piles of papers on her desk which they still had to file, as well as make a report out of. Paperwork would have to be the worst part of this job, Lucy thought to herself before realizing that having James, her ex who she cheated on back in high school, as a partner probably took that title away from the paperwork. “So help.”

A loud and probably forced deep breath left James lips as he narrowed his eyes, looking closely at the papers in his hands as he tried to focus. Lucy had been acting like a brat that was forced to do her homework practically for the whole night now, which after a few hours would get James distracted and therefore frustrated. Her tone of voice though, made him calmly rub his forehead as he kept his eyes closed, to work with someone that you really don’t like is already a task that won’t be taken by many, leave alone when that person knows exactly how to get on your nerves. “In case you’ve been sleeping, I am working on it too.” He waved the papers in the air probably too hard, his green tired eyes on her like two darts set on the target. “So stop complaining or --” He bit his lower lip, as if stopping himself from continuing. Deep down, James knew just how tired both of them were, and how that would lead them into saying something they shouldn’t sooner or later. “Finish that and go home.”
