Inclined to agree on many accounts. Despite my admiration for Hilary, I do feel that Bernie is the better feminist. I find myself fighting with the realization that a qualified woman is a contender and that I am not #withher.

I will admit to jumping to conclusions when I heard Ms. Steinem’s comment. After further research, (the entire interview, not just a snippet) I realize this was REALLY out of context. As an opinionated woman myself, I should know better. Words can be misleading when intention is misplaced. Gloria stands with us, that should have never been questioned.

Female athletes on the rise
2015 has been wonderful year for the female athlete. Although still grossly underrated, the female athlete’s star is very much on the rise. It fills my sporty heart with joy to see men rocking US women’s jerseys, attending games and proudly posting on social media about our world cup champions. Many male actors, and athletes showed their support for our team and I could not be more pleased. Tom Hanks, Seth Myers, and even superstar athletes Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant all showed support for the US women’s soccer team. Bryant and Durant even lead a twitter thread on equality in women’s sports; Citing Sydney Leroux’s terrible injuries after playing on turf. They stood with female athletes during the turf vs grass world cup debacle and used their fame to spread the word. I truly believe the attention this world cup received for making women play on turf, something men would NEVER have to do, will have a lasting impression. Hopefully this was the first and last WWC to be played on artificial turf. The US women’s soccer team received a congratulatory call from US president Barrack Obama upon defeating Japan for the world cup and were welcomed home with a ticker-tape parade in NYC.
Last nights UFC women’s bantamweight title fight was nothing short of astonishing. Something any Rousey fan is now accustomed to. The undefeated Ronda Rousey took on Brazil’s own undefeated mixed martial artist Bethe Correia. In proper Rowdy Ronda fashion the fight lasted only 34 seconds, with Rousey finishing via KO in the first round. Ronda is quickly becoming one of the most idolized fighters in the world. With fans like Mike Tyson, you know this girl is the real deal. As she says she’s no “Do Nothing Bitch” and she works incredibly hard to stay at the top. Males from all over the world have flocked to Rowdy Ronda’s side and love to show support for the American athlete. She is a great example of a woman making strides in a male dominated sport and I can’t wait to see the rest of her career unfold.
Female athletes’ gaining support and attention is a wonderful thing but the fight for equality is far from over. Unequal TV and news coverage, ridiculous pay disparity between male and female athletes and chauvinistic sports associations (Ahem FIFA…) all drive the narrative that women’s sports are some how inferior. There is no validity to that ancient point of view. Just watch Carli Lloyds unbelievable goal from 50 yards out or any of Ronda Rousey’s KO’s and you’ll see women’s sports are equally as exciting.
The dream team!
Happy. Healthy. Hydrated.
The WWC starts today! Who will you be rooting for?

Meet the most successful tech entrepreneur you’ve never heard of.
In 1962, Dame Stephanie Shirley decided she was sick of hitting the glass ceiling for women in the tech industry. So she founded an all-female software startup called Freelance Programmers, and she hired women who had left the workplace after getting married or having children. To get business, she often signed her name “Steve” instead of “Stephanie” in letters. “In those days, I couldn’t open a bank account without my husband’s permission,” Dame Stephanie says. “My generation of women fought the battles for the right to work and the right for equal pay.”
Freelance Programmers was ultimately valued at $3 billion, making Dame Stephanie and 70 of her employees millionaires.
