fathers day .. her father in general .. are .. addy wishes she could say complicated that sure things hurt, things go wrong and people say the wrong thing but she knows he loves her, that hes her dad and he loves her and wants her to be happy .. but things aren't complicated .. things are tragically simple with henry morris.

addy knows things weren't always like this with her dad, knows there had to have been love, had to have been care .. just not enough left after everything, especially after she gave them a storm cloud of a daughter. slowly, like a storm giving its last scream she felt that care, that love fade until it was like white noise in the background of their relationship. it lingered there between phone calls, facetime videos when she couldn't make it home for holidays .. lingered and lived on until snapped ... and died.

addy can still remember sitting at the dining table across from her seething father thinking she didn't withstand a storm that should have killed her, didn't drag herself out of hell by her own bloodied and broken fingernails to back down from anyone, even her own father ... can still remember the moment she saw it all fade ro nothing but cold and clear anger, a line thrown down with her blood family on one side and herself on the other .. she still remembers walking away from it all that night.

its not that addy expected anything from her father after that night, hell she would have been more surprised if he had extended any sort of olive branch but .. then el reno happened and addy knows once more her picture, her name was splayed all over, gracie was constantly on her side of the phone .. javis mom had called to check on all of them, so had cathy who had driven all the way down there .. it made her fathers silence, the father who used to let her ride around on his shoulders, who snuck her ice cream in the middle of the night when she had a bad dream, the dad who kissed her forehead whenever he left for work, all the more deafening and she realized once more standing in the hospital in el reno that she really was an orphan now.

things with henry morris aren't complicated, they aren't messy or loving .. or anything. they are tragically simple ..

art has never been something she's good at, it's why she was always drawn into jeb's editing and the way he created, encouraged any and all of gracie's interests because she was never going to have that painted thumb for lack of a better phrase. it's why brown eyes are drawn immediately to @shesdaylight sketching the girl playing frisbee with her dog. she must be staring longer than she thought and she knows better than that because the last person who had looked at her too long in the bar had gotten her elbow in their stomach because while you never really knew what they were talking about, you always had a clue and addy ? addy had no problem giving them something else to think about .. she wondered if she was about to be on the other side of that elbow, bleu eyes are lifted now to look at addy instead of her sketchpad " sorry, sorry .. didn't mean to stare. she blames tyler for this. was it a fair thought ? no. was it a kind thought ? definitely not. but she wouldn't be sat here with kate down the hall filing javi in on the details of hew newest hospital visit if tyler had just minded his own business instead of looking at her with that concerned look in his eyes, voice all soft as she wobbled around on her prosthetic leg after twisting her other ankle hopping out of the truck after a coffee run of all things. once tyler had said the words addy and hurt in the sme sentence there was no getting out of going to the hospital.

so yeah .. she blames tyler for this.

it's why when the curtain swishes open addy groans low, frustrated and exhausted, a headache growing from the flourescent lights as she scrubs a hand over gritty eyes, " let me guess javi's coming too because of a stupid sprained ankle ? let me guess we're gonna call the national guard next, kate ? " she doesn't realize it's not kate in the entryway until she drops her hand from her eyes and sees @armybled in kate's place, " considering she might actually call our whole team soon any chance we could wrap this up quick so i can sneak out of here ? "

addy scrubs a tired hand over her face, propping her chin up against her hand as she signals for another coffee, tilting her head to watch the downpour of rain just outside the window, trickling down in uneven and wobbling trails. she raises a finger to trace along them when a voice at her side makes her jump, mug rattling against its little plate,

" did you need something ? " there's a bit of bite in her voice, exhaustion blankets it all though and she curls her free hand, the one not still pressed against the window, into a fist and breathes .. in out and out, in and out before looking up @dumbthink with tired brown eyes " or not ? "
