Full offense but your writing style is for you and nobody else. Use the words you want to use; play with language, experiment, use said, use adverbs, use “unrealistic” writing patterns, slap words you don’t even know are words on the page. Language is a sandbox and you, as the author, are at liberty to shape it however you wish. Build castles. Build a hovel. Build a mountain on a mountain or make a tiny cottage on a hill. Whatever it is you want to do. Write.

Sometimes with NaNo I write a scene but I’m really not happy with how it came out

Not just “needs editing” not-happy but like “this is Wrong and I can’t move on until it’s less wrong”

So I rewrite a bit. But instead of deleting and starting over, I just keep both versions in brackets or whatever so I can pick and choose my favorite later

That way I’m still pushing forward, I’m still feeling productive, AND when the time comes to polish the whole thing later, I’ll have both versions to refer back to in case there are any cool details I decide I’d like to keep

^^^ I’m pretty sure this method has been make-or-break for me in past Nanos, and the part about keeping the old version is actually important. One of my favorite scenes from my last draft is one that I thought was so overdone at the time that I had to start from a totally different place, but when I came back it was exactly what the story needed to handle the tension.
