Bayonne, New Jersey alternative rock outfit, Gatherer, is set to launch. The high-energy, emotive quintet combines aspects of pop-punk, hardcore, and melodic alternative into a soup of emotional lamenting and passionate exaltation. Yet, despite their propensity to display a sharper edge, Gatherer’s music tends to be both accessible and refreshing. It is an odd combination, to say the least. But it works.

What’s your hometown (or what are your hometowns)?
The band is based out of Bayonne, New Jersey, which is where Austin, Christian and I (Adam) are from. Matt is from Old Bridge and GG (Gianmarco) is from Cliffside Park.
How did the band come together? How long has it been?
The band honestly started as a small side project with members of now defunct (and still existent) bands to write some music and play a few shows before our guitarist Austin went away to the Navy. However, because he ended up not going, we began taking the band more seriously and started to dedicate as much time as we all could to it. We started the band a little less than 2 years ago and are very excited about what we have done so far and what we have planned for the future.
Why should people listen to your band?
Having a common goal for writing honest and self-reflective music, we feel that our music is a genuine representation of ourselves and hopefully others can relate to it.
How have you grown since you started?
Some of us actually just started playing the instruments we play in the band when we started the band less than 2 years ago haha. So I guess you can say that as we progressed as a band, we progressed equally as musicians. Our new record is definitely much more mature and musically/vocally developed than our quick-and-loud blast of an EP.
What sets you apart from other bands?
So many bands just regurgitate the music of the bands which they admire. We really understand that in order to make music that means something to you, though you tend to feed off of your influences, you need to create something new and interesting that you can call your own.
What’s the best part about being in your band?
Traveling and playing music that you love with your best friends.
More times than not, influences tend to bleed through. What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
The bands that will always be an influence to us are As Cities Burn, Thursday, and At The Drive-In. But all of us have our own personal favorites that others in the band may not necessarily like haha.
