“my teammates are holding me back”
Icebear
It was summer and extremely hot, and that made me uncomfortable and can't even understand what Ma'am Caronan is saying. Also add these two boys sitting beside me, one was taller and thin and the other was so white my skin would hide. I don't even know them but all I can say, they are so annoying. It was my first day at Ma'am Caronan's summer class. I never wanted to join but it was so hard to say no to my grandmother who pushed me to this. And it was recess time and the two kept on going with their teté-a-teté. I admit it I don't have any friends here. I don't know anyone in this small room, but then I made myself brave enough to talk to these two annoying boys beside me. Shyly I whispered, "Hi," and it was enough for them to hear. Then they acknowledged me and the chichat went on but we needed to stop for another lesson was about to start.
It's been 4 years since the first time I've met him. I could still remember those chubby cheeks and his fair white skin. I can say he never changed, let say he became thinner because of puberty but he was still the same.
I still remember calling you "Fafa," and you calling me "Chubs," *giggles* I didn't know we had a call sign like that AHAHAHAHAHA.
To my dear classmate, one of my scouting buddy, to our vine director and editor.
I know this is not the kind of message you would expect from me. I believe that words are not enough to tell all I want to say. But, I just want to simply thank you, for all you have done for me, for being part of my roller coaster ride, for giving me unsolicited advices, and for adding happiness to my world. You are so cute and cool (I know you wanted to hear that and I admit that those are true). Stay who you are and only change what's needed to change. I hope the 4 years of friendship will become countless. Love lots, Al Policar G. Rivera💖
Expecting for the Unknown
Another year, another opportunity. But nothing much has changed. Yeah, a few, that big bloated tummy, and full loaded stories during Christmas break. But what really have changed?
It was not only the year that has changed. Not all people has changed. Same old grumpy faces I see, same old attitude they put on. My only expectation for this new year is, a new stressful and dizzier roller coaster ride of life.
For my past 3 years, my roller coaster ride starts with the most awaited annual Provincial Jamboree of Boy Scouts of the Philippines. But for this year, my last year as a Senior Scout, I’ve decided not to attend. Not that I got sick of the same old routines and modules. I am just being practical because I just spend thousands of money during the 6th ASEAN Jamboree. I wanted to focus on my academics since it’s my last year in Junior High School. But despite of not attending the camping. I’m very much excited for the most awaited Council, Regional and National Scout Youth Forum. It’s just once in a lifetime to be part of this activity.
It’s just days away before my term as the Council Scout Representative of Cagayan and as the Regional Scout Representative of Northeastern Luzon to end. It’s time to pass it to another person who’s willing to take the challenge of voicing out issues of his fellow scouts. I’m not sad, I’m more excited because it’s my time now to be the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, my only opportunity to hold the gavel and take charge of the whole body of senior scouts. I hope the one next in line for my term may continue and may do better than what I did.
Less than 3 months and our class, the Grade 10 Silver will go on seperate ways. Another chapter in our lives will come to an end, but the story of our bond and camaraderie will not end. The new chapter will be our Senior High School life. A more challenging thrill of our story. And I hope no one will forget the happy moments and hope they will treasure every bit of it.
And lastly, my expectation is for the roller coaster ride is not the dizzy and stressful days but the happiness and adventure it give to me. It will make me stronger and brave to face this another year in my life.
All I Want For Christmas Is You
As I stand on the side of the road, I felt the cold December breeze brush through my cheeks. Rubbing both my palms to keep myself warm while hailing a tricycle going back to the plaza. It was just minutes past 5 but the sun has already set, so it was a dark and cold evening. I looked up and the moon was full. I smiled knowing Christmas break is near, only a few more stressful days and I can cuddle with my pillows and my blanket. Letting out a sigh with no hopes of getting a tricycle, I started walking. The streets were bright for there were Christmas lights hung. Twinkling, making the surroundings beautiful and merriful. Everyone loves this time of the year. The Christmas spirit is everywhere. From tall buildings to houses, to street lights and from small stores. Christmas is just at the corner.
Every Christmas I remember such memories, happy memories to be exact. Those merriful and also cold memories. But one thing I know, my Christmas this year, wouldn't be so cold like the weather.
I closed my eyes and inhaled the sweet air. I opened my eyes and I saw a pair of round black eyes, he then smiled. Those set of teeth, he has that beautiful smile that made me smile too. He was infront of me. My special someone it's just infront me. I held his hands, those hands I will never let go. I looked to his face again, I just really miss him. I then pull him for a tight hug, and uttered, "I miss you so much." Just like how we've met. I felt the familiar feeling of butterflies fluttering inside my stomach. I looked up to him. He was really taller than me. He smiled again, and oww, I do love his dimple on his left cheek.
Ken Joshua Tomale Pascual, my special someone for this Christmas. A special gift.
I asked him, "Do you like Christmas?" He immediately answered "Yes."
For Ken, CHRISTMAS SEASON IS THE SEASON OF LOVE. The word “CHRISTMAS” means “MASS OF CHRIST,” the even shorter form “Xmas." It was first used in Europe derived from the greek alphabet in which X is the first letter of Christ’s name: Xristos, therefore “X-MAS”. Christmas is the time to think of Jesus Christ as a baby in a manger. While the birth of Christ is a special and miraculous event, it isn't the primary focus. The central truth of the Christmas story is this: the Child of Christmas is God.Christmas is not about the Savior's infancy; it is about His Goddess . The humble birth of Jesus Christ was never intended to conceal the reality that God was being born into the world. During this season filled with our own doubts and dreams, it’s good to ponder to God’s great love expressed in the familiar story of Joseph, Mary, the baby Jesus, and the angels who announced the Savior’s birth. Because God broke into human history to offer us the gift of salvation. This is God's promise and it was made to be fulfilled.
Just what I expected answer from a seminarian. Truly Christmas is not just about love for others, love has different aspects but this season may we focus on God's unconditional love to us. May we be reminded of the true meaning of CHRISTmas...God gave his only begotten Son born in a manger, wrapped in swaddling clothes with all humility, for our Salvation...
Rejoice, our King has been born...
Have a blessed merry CHRISTmas...
Greetings from my family to yours.
One with ASEAN
As the ASEAN SUMMIT drew to a close. We’ve gain some economic and political concerns. Such as some contemporary issues and the recently ended war in Marawi.
But behind the diplomatic push, what does the average Filipino stand to gain from these high-level meetings? Here are the highlights.
Migrant Rights
The agreement is expected to benefit over 200,000 Filipino migrant workers across the region. It provides for visits by family members for workers accused of crimes, reinforces workers' rights to join trade unions and associations, prohibits passport confiscation and overcharging of recruitment fees, as well as regulates recruiters for better protection of workers.
Rebuilding Marawi
All the leaders mentioned this. As terrorism threat increases, with just the recently concluded war in Marawi, leaders discusses their shares in restoring the horrendous state of the City.
This would benefit more than 300,000 residents who were forced to evacuate their homes during the five-month war against ISIS-inspired terrorists. The government declared the end of combat operations on October 24, less than a month before the ASEAN Summit.
South China Sea
The 31st ASEAN Summit brought back a provision into the final Chairman's Statementthat implied a reference to the 2015 ruling by the Permanent Court of Arbitration recognizing the Philippines' claims over the South China Sea.
Duterte on Tuesday said he will only bring up the ruling with China 'maybe once' during his presidency.
But some analyst says that Duterte is “PLAYING SAFE” during his statement about this.
Free trade
Trade barriers between Hong Kong and ASEAN, including the Philippines, will be reduced after the signing of a free trade agreement (FTA) on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit on Sunday.
Another welcome development from the sidelines of the summit, U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to consider signing an FTA with the Philippines. This was proposed by President Rodrigo Duterte during their bilateral talk.
Justin Trudeau's charm
Meanwhile, Filipinos were charmed by social media favorite Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. But still, the Prime Minister is bombarded with questions regarding the dumping of 2,450 tons of Canadian waste to the country in 2013.
Human rights concerns
However, the Canadian Prime Minister's charm did not work on the tough-talking Duterte, particularly when he raised his concern about human rights and extrajudicial killings.
The President said in a media briefing, he would not explain his anti-drug campaign to foreigners. He said he finds world leaders "insulting" if they criticize the drug war.
It was somehow beneficial to our country as it discusses issues needed to be ended and solved. And we hope all this will be granted and can help in our economy and our nation’s state.
Finding the Lost Symbol
The Lost Symbol is a 2009 novel written by American writer Dan Brown. It is a thriller set in Washington, D.C., after the events of The Da Vinci Code, and relies on Freemasonry for both its recurring theme and its major characters.
It is one of my favorite novel by Dan Brown besides Angels and Demons and Da Vinci's Code.
What life lessons can be learned?
Dan Brown's novel is all about religious sects' deepest secrets but this one, it involves family problem. It's all about how neglection in family connection can change everything.
Who was your favorite character?
Robert Langdon. The main character of the Book.
Did anything happened in the book remind of something similar?
Yes it does. The family problem is one of the major problems of our society. Many have broken connections that leads to rebellion
If I had a chance to ask a character from the movie a question, what would it be?
Mal'akh. I want to ask him, why did he choose power instead of fortunes in having his revenge to his family?
Movie Timeee
Your Name
A teenage boy and girl embark on a quest to meet each other for the first time after they magically swap bodies.
It was a beautiful movie. And I can say, it is in my list of my favorite movies. After watching this film, I've become more attached to animé and japanese language movies. These kind of movies is different to the ones we always watched. This is one isn't a cliché love story so I find the plot unique.
What life lessons can be learned?
Your name is all about friendship and family. It denotes the happiness of friends and struggles of a broken family.
Who was your favorite character?
Both Taki and Mitsuha. I got really attached to them, as if their story was true.
Did anything happened in the book remind of something similar?
Yes. The corruption of Mitsuha's father as the mayor of their town. We also experience that in real life. The corruption in our government, they are dishing the pork.
If I had a chance to ask a character from the movie a question, what would it be?
I want to ask both Mitsuha and Taki, "How did they endure the longing and emptiness they could not find for several years?"
Did you know: "Your Name" is the highest-grossing anime film of all time by worldwide gross ($355,298,270) (wikipedia.org).
I'm a gamer so I'm a huge fan of this tech. I really wanted it but I can't afford one. This is a short background about the Republic of Gamers. For years since its establishment, ASUS aimed to put an ever-greater emphasis on PC gaming. This process resulted in the 2006 founding of the Republic of Gamers brand (ROG), formed for the sole purpose of delivering the most innovative hardcore hardware for truly dedicated gamers. Since then, the efforts of the ROG team have led to a constant flow of PC gaming technology that has become legendary among enthusiasts for its performance. ROG is more than just hardware, though – we take an active part in the global gaming community, helping develop the industry by sponsoring events such as PAX and Dreamhack. Worldwide media have recognized ROG as a leader in PC gaming and overclocking performance, with many of our products winning awards and gaining very positive feedback from hardware pros. With this great response from gamers and the industry, ROG has all the resources it needs to keep working on enabling even better experiences – technology never sleeps, nor should the action! Future Me
Since childhood, we learn to dream on to something we wanted. By reaching the teenage stage, these dreams turn into goals that needed to be fulfilled. Dreams that will soon turn into reality.
Ten years from now, I see myself working inside a laboratory, looking through the lenses of a microscope, wearing my lab coat and studying on tiny creatures, working on genes and chromosomes and finding innovations for life.
Or…
Ten years from now, I am on a crime scene, looking for evidences, investigating and looking for answers for mysteries.
Or in short,
I want to be a biologist, or a prosecutor.
Was my school pivotal in my future?
Cagayan National High School (CNHS) was the key to my goals. For four years of studying in CNHS under its Science, Technology and Engineering program, it ignited the young scientist in me that led me to continuing a Science related profession.
My school is known for academic excellence and I’m very proud to be part of it. As I grow under its bosoms that nourished me throughout my stay in CNHS, I’ll be leaving it with flying colors as I move on to the next chapter of my life as a student.
What course am I going to take in college?
Since I will be taking the STEM (Science, Technology and Engineering Mathematics) strand for my Senior High, it is expected that my course would be related to Natural Science or Engineering courses.
But,
I’m still undecided for I also wanted to be a prosecutor.
So maybe I will take the HUMSS (Humanities and Social Science) strand and will take Legal related courses for my college.
So what really am I gonna be ten years from now?
The future isn’t in our hands that we can control. It takes courage, hard work and humility to mold what we want to happen for our future. Our dreams, goals and success are things that lead us in having a glimpse of it.
But there are still important things to keep in mind: follow your heart, the passion that blazes in you and it will lead you to your desire.
