The immediate disapproval is obvious, and he canāt help but feel bad about it. The feline is gracious enough not to actually scratch himāhe does, after all, feed her regularlyābut it probably takes some restraint not to. Heās never seen a cat look so insulted, and he laughs a little awkwardly at the reaction. Somehow, heās reminded a little too much of his master in those moments; Luke is a picky eater, as well. Heād probably get along with this cat just fine.
āNot at all, huh?ā There was hope that she would at least be sated with the treats, if not entirely satisfied, but heās not that lucky. And he doesnāt speak assuming heāll get a real response or assuming that his words are understood perfectly as he speaks them, but in those next moments both of those beliefs are thrown entirely out the door.
At first, he looks around in confusion as a voice answers him back. Thereās no one else in sightāand the words wouldnāt have made sense coming from anyone but the catābut it still takes him a moment to fixate back on the small animal. Thereās still disbelief that it really happened, but looking again into her eyes, thereās an intelligence there that doesnāt exist within other members of the lower levels of the animal kingdom. And it can only meanā¦
āWas thatā¦?ā His question is left hanging as he realizes it must have been. This cat talked to him. This cat speaks. Heās so disoriented by that concept ( and so shocked ) that his body finds itself adjusting clumsily just enough to lose his balance and tumble down those few steps until his back meets with the ground. The treats are lost to the dirtānot that anyone is grieving themāand his eyes are focused heavenward for a few moments. The cat talks.
Heās not sure what this is, but he scrambles into a sitting position with his legs crossed in front of him, hands settling one on each knee, and head bowed. āI-Iām sorry! As I said, I was running late, and⦠Iām only a simple servant; I canāt really afford specialty treats like that.ā Thatās no excuse, he thinks. He could have done better. āPlease, forgive me!ā
Watching his every movement she tried not to laugh at his pitiful attempt of an apology, of course she had expected such a reaction as cats werenāt meant to talk but it still never ceased to amuse her each and every time.Ā
The feline held off with her sarcasm on how graceful his fall was just so she could admire a few more moments on how he had reacted. Smirking slightly still in her cat form she raised her paw, a rough pink tongue flicked out to lick the fur clean as if nothing had happened, like he was crazy. Maybe she could tease him just a little more, he was quite the amusement.
Of course it was slightly cruel, playing on someones mind making them think they had imagined such things but something like this always excited her. Plus it would have been a waste if she let it slip by. Tail swished in the air as paws outstretched in front of her raising her back side in a stretch, eyes never left the boy who was asking for forgiveness. Looking back at the treats now in the dirt she used her back paws to kick dust in the air like she was trying to bury the disappointment before she began to move towards the other.
Without any notice she jumped on his lap (no regard for personal space) and looked up at him expectantly; watching for his next reaction, waiting to see where heād go from here. Golden eyes not leaving his face as she simply watched as she continued to play on the innocent act. A cat speaking? How absurd! To her it was just another game of cat and mouse, another memory to add to her little collection. She was sure if others had the same skill set theyād do the exact same, use it to their advantage and have a little fun along the way.
