why r people saying that devsis isn't being racist on purpose... y'know it doesn't matter if they designed characters like lilac out of ignorance or not. "they're a korean company they don't have the same context" yes they do. that doesn't absolve them of their racism or make them any more innocent or sympathetic. or whatever. the knowledge that lilac's design is based around seriously disgusting racist stereotypes and misconceptions is available to them, too. if they tried to do an inkling of research beyond disney's aladdin they'd know that and we wouldn't be having this problem.

everyone at devsisters is a grown adult who is capable of properly learning about the cultures they try to put in their game. and they chose not to! simple as that. they don't need you defend them lol i promise

sure, cookie run is a silly gacha game about goddamn cookies. that doesn't make what's going on here any less sickening, either. racism is bad because it bleeds through and stains our whole society's perception of cultures and people. and people start to believe these racist misconceptions are true and it's okay to flaunt them around, and they are only further engrained in our minds as a result. and then they end up in the silly game about cookies, because they're so normalized no one bats an eye or questions them. like? do you see why it's concerning? why it's a problem?

i'm just as angry and disgusted with devsisters regardless of if EVERYONE in their entire company genuinely did not know any better or if this was on purpose. they make millions of dollars. this company does not have my respect or sympathy and it shouldn't have yours. the fact that they're korean doesn't change a damn thing. they are just as capable of spending the time and money on proper research as any western company?! and if you think a korean company deserves more leeway and "patience" on a matter like racism simply by virtue of them being korean and "oh they wouldn't know any better it's a different part of the world :(", you probably need to re-examine the way you view asian people. they don't need you leaping to coddle them and defend them. they're not babies.
