It wasn’t that Kei disliked companionship; rather, he found a profound sense of peace in solitude. Years later, Yamaguchi Tadashi would stick by his side after Kei scared off his bullies, and he wouldn’t go no matter how many mean glares he tried to emanate. Years later, despite their initial drift, Kei and Akiteru would mend their relationship and grow closer again over time. Years later, a bunch of annoying people who couldn’t shut up about club activities appeared. Years later, special after-hours training was held in the 3rd Gymnasium in his first summer year of high school, and he met Kuroo Tetsurou. (Or, in which Tsukishima and Kuroo only see each other at weddings and funerals plus Tsukishima's mortifying ideal of being known.)

Red Thread of Fate
We all know Oh No! Here Comes Trouble was tied together by a thin red thread of fate, and we saw this from the beginning
to the very end.
But what about all the various ways we saw it in between? There were the obvious red threads showing how everything was connected,
but what about all the subtle ways, like when people's phones reflected red as the plane fell in the sky.
Or how the grandfather and father wore red around their necks the day of the accident.
Because that thin red burning paper floated through the scene only to break apart and kick start this entire adventure.
And each time a new case emerged, it showed up in red.
And even though Yiyong wanted to live a calm life in the blue, the red would always find its way in.
Until finally, he would have to accept his destiny each time and surrender to the red.
Because the thin red line of fate actually started with his grandfather running from his destiny.
And he tried for years to ignore it even though the red was still there.
So his avoidance began to weave others into the story.
Which forced blue boy Yiyong to deal with the red destiny his grandfather refused to confront because his friends wouldn't let him ignore it.
Since these people were always destined to be apart of his story.
Because the red always showed up to signify when someone was tied to the larger story.
So when Yiyong was in trouble, that red thread could appear
And lead his friends to him since they were all connected.
Since that was the real red thread of fate that the grandfather gave up on. The thread is meant to connect people, but instead, the grandfather closed himself off, unlike Yiyong. So when Yiyong looked like his destiny would be the same as his grandfather
And when it felt like the cycle seemed to come to a close
Yiyong friends rushed to helped him
And all those red threads of fate that blue boy Yiyong had helped piece together became one to stitch Yiyong back to life.
It's a token of gratitude.
Yiyong + survivor's guilt
Do you know there was a bus swept by a plane, and a bunch of people died? I stayed up the night before, so I overslept the next morning. And my dad and grandpa took that bus.
About Yi Yong and Guang Yan’s dynamic
Their dynamic is so touching for they appear like polar opposites but they actually complement each other.
Yi Yong relies on Guang Yan’s articulate way of thinking and Guang Yan is amazed by the intensity of Yi Yong’s emotions.
They do bicker a lot but sometimes, when quiet settles between them, you can see how much they learn from each other. When Yi Yong’s words fail him, he listens to Guang Yan’s way of putting words together (see ep 4).
See how Yi Yong leans in? It feels as if he is trying to memorise the words Guang Yan chose to explain the case to the people they are talking to.
When Guang Yan’s analytical mind cannot grasp the situation for it follows no logic, he steadily watches Yi Yong who listens to his emotions.
Guang Yan is a thinker whereas Yi Yong is a feeler.
However Guang Yan feels a lot when he is with Yi Yong and sometimes his feelings take over although he’d normally not let that happen. He is quick to read Yi Yong’s expressions and the intensity through which Yi Yong experiences life makes him want to bring him some comfort in whatever way he can. He isn’t completely aware of it himself but he is trying to be a source of warmth to Yi Yong’s cold world.
A good illustration of such a dynamic would be Chu Ying’s comment in ep 8: “Good things happen when I’m with you”. Chu Ying doesn’t understand the weight her words have on Yi Yong although Guang Yan understands it immediately and blurts out some awkward words of comfort.
Yi Yong’s distress is so obvious to Guang Yan although Chu Ying remains completely oblivious to it. Luckily, by the end of the series, she’ll finally understand why saying such a thing — repeatedly — was a mistake and a pretty insensitive thing to say. She’s best girl though and I’m not hating on her. We love to see a good character’s development in this house.
What is so endearing about Yi Yong and Guang Yan’s dynamic is that it wasn’t meant to be. Nothing destined them to become so important to each other so quickly and so subtly. The depths of their bond take root in the fact that both accept to be humble in each other’s presence. But they also both genuinely value each other’s inputs and thoughts.
Yi Yong has always been constantly judged by random people because his intelligence doesn’t fit into the “academic intelligence” definition. He doesn’t do well at school and so society views him as being not worth much. Guang Yan, on the other hand, is a diligent student who went to med school because that’s what brilliant students do. (that’s what society thinks, this is not my personal opinion) But Yi Yong, although his career path has yet to be written, has faith in his feelings. Although he stopped drawing his comic, he still trusts his instincts and doesn’t let the world’s hypocrisy taint the purity of his heart.
Guang Yan is lost although his future seems all planned out. He admires Yi Yong for all he is: for the goodness of his heart, his intrepid nature, and his ability to see people for who they truly are.
Remember when Guang Yan’s father was kind of happy to see his son skip school because of Yi Yong? He didn’t seem to think that Yi Yong was a bad influence on his son. On the contrary, he was glad that Guang Yan was finally opening up.
Yi Yong and Guang Yan are brutally honest with each other although Guang Yan looks as if he doesn’t always speak his mind when he is with his classmates. However, the fact that Yi Yong’s face is so easy to read makes it easy for him to stop masking his emotions and let it all out. Because Yi Yong doesn’t mind. Because Yi Yong won’t misunderstand his words. Because Yi Yong won’t get offended.
Both their characters break the usual archetypes of the risk-taker and the diligent student and that is all thanks to Oh No! Here Comes Trouble’s brilliant writing, directing, and acting.
it drives me insane that yiyong’s supernatural abilites are so intrinsically tied to his artistic abilities i.e he can quite literally let others see what can’t normally be seen by drawing the obsessions accurately, and he can solve their problems by writing for them sincerely and earnestly. but like. all of this is In Service to other ppl. and yiyong ofc Wants to do it— he says so himself that he doesnt like not helping and he finds joy in being able to do so but its not hard for your art to be meaningful when it’s for other ppl. yiyong’s art matters to lots of ppl bc it has practical uses BUT it drives me absolutely insane that the One (1) person who was a fan of his works Before he had supernatural abilities is guangyan. he just enjoyed his comics! he loved reading them! he waits for updates and commented when yiyong discontinued it!! and most ppl in yiyong’s life write his comics off— not even in a mean spirited way! they just dont like it and its fine but its so important to me that his art Did mean something to at least one other person. and its funny too bc guangyan was giggling laughing at his dream but he unknowingly was the most supportive of it all this time even without meaning to! before they became neighbours and began spending all that time together, they were able to connect simply as artist and audience. all this time his parents have been telling him to pursue his dreams and all this time he’d been scared for so many reasons; it didn’t pay enough or it wasn’t successful enough to warrant being a dream but like. it meant a lot to even One person, and in that way yiyong’s art, even before all the supernatural abilities, mattered too

“I can’t take it anymore. I need a haircut,” Guangyan exclaimed, his hair sticking to his face. “Let’s go to your ma’s salon. I think I need to shave off my hair.”
“Have you seen my hair?! Do you want to be her next victim?”
To the salon...or not, in this case where Yiyong volunteered to wash Guangyan's hair to stop him from making his biggest mistake on a particularly hot summer day.

Late-night video calls, cold on-call room, waiting listlessly at the bus stop and hearty breakfast. Everything has changed but nothing has changed, really. A snapshot of a late night and early morning of Guangyan and Yiyong's life once he wakes up.

"Do you realise you have a habit of pouting? Are you practicing for your duckface selfie?"
Kageyama furrowed his brows, not understanding what a "duckface selfie" was supposed to mean.
Or where Kageyama ogled Hinata openly, a pillow fight broke out between the two of them and Hinata is tired of Kageyama's pouting face.

"You know, I never thought I cared so much about looks," Kurogane said, catching Fai off guard with his sudden change in topic.
"What do you mean?" Fai asked, his confusion evident. “What do I look like, Kuro-tan? A starry sky? A diamond in the rough?”
A small talk about nothing leads to an off-guard heart-to-heart conversation while they were drinking into the night and how whipped they are for each other's happiness.

“Why didn’t you call me?”
Longing is weird and it’s weirder that the moment he seeks orange hair, now with sunkissed skin and two years' efforts evident on his sculpted body in front of the toilet, he feels that the previously empty cavity now is filled to the brim. Even at 188cm, it’s a space too small to contain so much of his feelings; or how Kageyama feels out of sorts after knowing that everyone (including Tsukishima) kept in touch with Hinata during his time in Brazil.

Those idol college dramas are nothing but fraud!
That’s what Kadota thought 8 months into his college life. And on days like these, where everything feels shitty and he feels more alone than he has in a long time, even among the bustling noises of disgusting, stinky jocks, his mind drifts to Yugami-san’s speech during his graduation a few years back.
(or the one where Kadota experienced a full-fledged existential crisis and accidentally met Yugami and Chihiro in a convenience store)
