I thought I could share my headcanon since it's been dusting away in my drafts for so long:

Yugami helps Chihiro cleaning her stuff to move to their new home. He finds the love letter Chihiro never got to send him. Chihiro yells at him not to open it, but he insisted. Then he read it. Chihi is hiding her tomato face; she thought he's gonna mock her, or boasted about it. Turns out he faced Chi, genuinely thank her, and continues doing his stuff. Turns out Yugami was having a bad week and Chi's letter cheered him up immensely. From that day, everytime Yugami is having a bad day, he'd read the letter before going to bed (without Chihi knowing, ofc, bcause dude wants to play it cool).

Hi there~ This is so cute!! I was always kind of bummed that he never received her letter. It may have made their eventual failure to reach koshien all the more painful, but still...! I definitely think Yugami would be extra involved in the moving process not because he was asked to, but because he can't resist sticking his nose into things when he thinks he can accomplish a task more efficiently than anyone else!! To this end, he'd absolutely want to repack various boxes The Right Way and end up stumbling on the letter. Even Yugami has bad weeks, so Chihiro's letter would surely be a wonderful pick-me-up... and with him rereading it when things are tough, it's a beautiful mirroring of what she wrote in said letter - how on days when she was depressed, the thought of seeing Yugami in class made going to school seem not so bad after all ^///^ Not that he'd ever admit how often he rereads it!! Boy's got his unflappable not-shy-at-all image to uphold!! SUCH A TSUNDERE Thank you for sending such a sweet headcanon, what a lovely finish to my night ^^

God damn it I need proper closure. I at least want to see them dating and not just watching Rakugo :( I think the worst part is that him wanting to be an astronaut just means he'll slowly spend less and less time with her aaaa

Eh, I actually prefer what Sakura did by having them spending time together but without either one being explicitly in love with the other person. Coming off of the last arc, it feels kind of shallow and disingenuous to jump so suddenly from “he’s my friend” / ”she’s not my friend; she just sits beside me in class” to sudden romantic epiphanies.

Do they like each other? Yes. Romantically? Maybe? Probably? Does it truly matter when all is said and done? The thing about Yugami and Chihiro’s relationship is that Sakura uses the “show-don’t-tell” approach with them so even if neither one ever has explicitly said they really like and enjoy being with the other, their actions really speak for themselves.

Even if Yugami goes to space one day, I think he’ll always end up coming back to Chihiro, some way, somehow. The final chapter is basically telling us exactly that. They enjoy each other’s company too much and they’re simply not meant to be out of each other’s lives for too long. I mean, the 4koma at the end says they even end up hanging out more. Together. Apparently outside of going to rakugo shows. They’re voluntarily spending more time together, which is practically a miracle coming from Yugami.

The first time Yugami-kun enters Chihiro’s apartment is after she convinces him to let her give him a haircut.

That’s the thought here...! The second he mentioned skipping haircuts to pay for dates with Chihiro living expenses I immediately thought INTIMATE HAIRCUT TIME because I just love scenes like that ^^;;;

Played around with my colour and shading to get it closer to the manga style! Might do a Part 2~
