Akari laughed at her friend, pulling out cereal boxes and other things they’d need for their late breakfast from the pantry. Apparently, Akari had failed to wash enough dishes to use while Momoka stayed over — she really could be such a mess, but then, so could Momoka, so they were quite a good match. “You could’ve woken me up, I could just as easily turn on the dishwasher,” she said, wondering if there was no cups, exactly how would she drink her morning coffee? For the moment, though, she simply watched as her friend poured juice into a bowl. “Are you going to drink it with a spoon?” She asked, giggling. 

«Why should I have had, when I could have lowkey shamed you for not washing dishes for nearly a week?» she grinned, looking over at her friend. They both knew that was not what she meant to do -Momoka was jut as messy as Akari if not worse, at times- but... that was served on a golden plate, she couldn’t just not take the chance. At her friend’s question tho, she just shook her head. «Nu, I found a straw.» she replied, holding up a white and red striped straw she found in the back of a drawer with the most serious face. It didn’t occur to her at all that her idea was just as absurd as drinking juice with a spoon.

 It wasn’t any different than usual — in fact, they used to do this sort of thing nearly every weekend when they were in middle school. As soon as Akari got Momoka’s text that she was on the way (”Finally finished with work,” it had said. “please have tons of snacks ready when I come.”) she set to work setting up her living room the way they always did when the other was coming over. She’d move the furniture and put two futons side by side in front of the TV. The TV was set to easily play movies, shows or whatever game they happened to be into (this time it was Splatoon). Then, of course, as per Momoka’s request, the table underneath the TV was lined with snacks of different sorts — candy, popcorn, potato chips, as many of their favourites as Akari could remember. Indeed, it was the same as it always had been. It was their tradition, ever since they were younger, and it continued into their adulthood easily, even if it’d been a while since they were able to hang out like this, everything always fell into place like routine, like they were right back in middle school again. 

As it wasn’t enough already to be abused all day at work, Momoka took more than half an hour to get at Akari’s. Not because it was really far away--... but at that time of the day, the streets were so crowded she barely had space to walk. When she got at her friend’s door she was tired, sweaty and in real need of her trash food. As a true millennial, she just texted her instead of ringing the bell.
