THE WEEKND | 2015

VOUS DEUX / 5 | 2015
As a direct result of having a KICK ASS crew, some crazy voodoo magic has occurred. I end the VOUSDEUX series with this shot, which I feel truly embodies the concept I envisioned and portrays the result of each slice of power & skill each team member has contributed to this shoot.
If you haven’t checked out his work already, visit Crisanto’s page (linked below) for a better look into that crazy, but genius, mind of his. I won’t forget that moment during the shoot when he said with such focus that he was, “making art”, and I couldn’t agree more.
Last but not least, big thanks to Christian Sison & Johan Tan for their invaluable assistance with lighting & hair. Y’all killed it. :)

This is the last (and also my favorite) look! As the shoot unraveled, so did Jenna’s hair. This magic was made possible by Kérastase embassador and friend, Pavielyne Carandang. This was our first time working together on a shoot and it definitely won’t be our last. Thanks for unleashing our voodoo queen’s mane, Pave. You slayed it!

I love the way this headpiece turned out. I created it as a last-minute addition to the shoot and Crisanto captured it beautifully in these shots. BIG thanks to my girl Sammie Ru for assisting with styling as well. You added the extra oomph to these looks! And of course, thank you for providing your witchy props. May the voodoo gods be ever in your favor.

Jenna Lee, you are so damn fierce! Thank you for bringing life FIRE to my voodoo concept. She doesn’t know it, but I’ve used her as a muse on several occasions. A wonderful model with a wonderful personality. Loved working with you girl!! xo

VOUS DEUX / 1 | 2015
Nothing in life occurs by accident. They are consequences. What you do unto the other, you do unto yourself. Vous deux. You two. You, too.
That is the essence of voodoo belief, and thus, the essence of this shoot. Stemming from personal experiences within the past year or more, I have really come to understand the power you hold in your own hands to influence the triumphs you gain, or to cause the trials you face. Do things happen because of luck, or because you have arranged yourself and your surroundings so that you have the optimal chance for success? Nothing good comes out of doing nothing. Surround yourself with REAL people, engage in GOOD habits, produce GREAT work; live healthily, heartily, and you’ll live happily.
Be the “voodoo god” of your own life: make waves.

GEOPUNK SET 2/6 | 2015
Shifting angles, changing perspectives, dancing lines, kaleidoscopic shapes -- who knew something so structured could be so dynamic?

GEOPUNK SET 1/6 | 2015
I don't want to lump these photos altogether, so I'll post them in 6 sets. I created this geometric wooden headpiece for my 3D Design class last semester with the intent to use it as a piece in a photoshoot. Mission accomplished.
The headpiece is meant to be a self-portrait. I chose to do a geometric frame structure that loosely resembles an eye. Eyes are symbolic for me in many ways: "Ais" or "Ai" is a nickname of mine; an eye represents "awakeness" or "awareness"; and finally, in the most obvious sense, it represents vision & sight. I am a creative and rely heavily on the visual senses. I have visions and goals for myself as a designer and a person that I want to accomplish. Yet at the same time, I try to make sure to have the sight to see what's in front of me and be aware of my surroundings, of what I have, and what I need to do to realize my visions.
So glad to have worked with a great team, with great vibes, to produce great images.

ANIMAL SKULLS | 2015
I recently began to revisit an old style of mine. For this, I used nothing but a sketchbook with black pages and a white gel pen. I love focusing on line work. I love drawing in pen. Because I can't erase it, it forces me to think of my lines more carefully.
FORTUNE TELLER | 2014
Here's my thing: maybe there is such thing as Fate, maybe there isn't. Something comes across your path--a person, an event, an opportunity--maybe that part is "Fate". But it's your choice to do what you want with the cards you're dealt. You can use them to win. You can get them and fold. Fact of the matter is, you can't get stuck in a state of mind in which you believe that you get what you get, and there's nothing else to it. Because honestly, that's just not true. Make good choices for yourself, and you'll see the results, bet. Be conscious of your surroundings. Be aware of the opportunities and possibilities. Be your own damn fortune teller.
YELLOW EYES | 2014
Every time I find myself at a craft or art store, I'll spend a good amount of time in their paper section. Whether or not I have a project in mind, I'll find a stack of papers in my hands by the time I reach the other side of the aisle.
Much like fabric shopping or swatch collecting when it comes to designing clothing, I love switching up my process and working from the roots, up. That is, letting the materials inspire me first rather than planning an image out ahead of time and then trying to find materials to fit my needs. That way, by the time I have a finished illustration, it will be "custom fitted" to its "foundation"; the paper, the color of the paper, the textures and the patterns.
It's always refreshing to give myself new ways to look at my own work. I think it's something that I've always said in my blogging career: stay experimenting until you find what works for you!

KUNDALINI | 2014
"Kundalini. Her name aptly conveys the mysticism that has eluded most of Mankind for centuries. Yet, she is described as a sleeping serpent coiled three and a half times at the base of your spine… [a] storehouse of creative energy awaiting the command to spring into action, Kundalini is the active property, unconscious in most, which functions under the direction of … DNA, and the subconscious mind. In Eastern legends she is a Goddess, and to know her is to possess the wisdom of a creator.
… The world has become a neighborhood, reorganizing the consciousness of man to expand to meet the demands of newfound awareness of who we are and how we live as humanity. With each new creation, whether scientific or artistic, man is constantly changing the way he sees himself and his relationship to his creations.
Rapidly, man is realizing the need to understand the nature of his creativity to empower and insure the perpetuation of physical evolution. He is realizing the need to reach further than he ever has before, expanding creativity beyond the realm of physical manifestation alone and into the realms of spiritual consciousness. He has seen the benefits of understanding the finite world around him, building the desire to know what causes his sensory world to exist and believing himself capable of understanding these causes. Seized by a restlessness of Spirit, he is no longer content to remain unconscious of these causal forces. He is ready to explore the nature of his own creativity with full awareness and responsibility. When willing, Mankind is capable of wielding the commands to awaken the Kundalini.
Developing conscious control of Kundalini opens the thinking to higher states of creativity and deeper levels of consciousness. When uncoiled… [s]he is a means to elevate awareness and transcend perceived limits of our existence. With her, as it is well described in one of the world's greatest anthologies of spiritual literature, our "eyes are opened and we become as gods" living forever.

Yes, I'm starting to blog again. I'm not going to lie, I've really missed it. Going back through my blog, I've done a bit of spring (lol jk, I'm about to find myself in the middle of a blizzard) cleaning.
Now that the shelf has been dusted, however, I realize that so much of my work hasn't made it on here since I've stopped blogging. If you haven't been following me on Instagram, then you're in for a treat (or at least, I'd like to think so). You'll see how I've progressed since I slowed down with my posts nearly two years ago.
If you are visiting my page as a result of finding me via Instagram, I'd like to think that you're in for a treat, regardless. High-quality images on the net is better than what we can see or fit into those tiny Instagram squares.
So, sit back, relax, and enjoy as I bring life back to AISHAZAMM.COM.
