The Foxhole Court, everyone
Not only do i like to make plans, but i's also something i kind of have to do to picture the place and make it plausible and accurate - escpecially if i want to make a comic.
That plan fixes the mistakes i made for the lounge one i did last year. I still believe the lounge looks like this somewhat, but i picture it wider now, the room was too small. Making those plans i had to remember that a usual exy team can fit up to 30ish people in it, so common rooms had to be large, each locker room should be able to fit ~15 people and so forth.
I'm preparing another drawing of a book scene. If you have a request do tell, i might make it the next one.
The Foxhole Court - but literally the building
"The first room was a lounge. Three chairs and two couches took up most of the space, forming a semicircle around an entertainment center. The TV was obscenely large, and Neil couldn't wait to watch a game on it. Posted above the TV on the wall was a list of sports and news channels. The rest of the walls were covered in photographs." - The Foxhole Court, Chapter three
I wanted to draw a scene that happened in the lounge, so I drew a quick depiction of the place (according to me). It was all from memory so I didn't get the "above the TV" part right (or the "three chairs" one), but actually i dont give a shit cause that's still how i decide to picture it.
Also here's a quick plan of the thing:
You can now try to guess which lounge scene I'm gonna draw.
whenever y'all talk about what an aftg tv/movie adaptation would be like i'm thinking there's only one way to do it right and that's to make aftg into what it always has been at its heart, and that's a sports anime. argue with the wall idgaf i'm right and you know it
okay my anti "drew" nickname stance is two-pronged. there is the knee-jerk, "ew, no. neil wouldn't say that" reaction, which stems from personal preference and my understanding of the character. there is also the fact that when someone asked nora if andrew has any other trigger words besides the ones stated in canon, she said "a.j." because that is the name he went by while living with the spears. it seems likely to me that over the course of his many foster placements, andrew has probably been called every possible nickname affiliated with his name, including "drew" and "andy." and since we know none of his homes were good, i imagine that the use of any of these names would elicit a negative reaction
大嫌い!
Kind of drives me nuts when people act like Neil was in denial about his attraction to Andrew. Like when they go 'lmao neil being obsessed with andrew's arms and how he feels like he can lean on andrew and he alone can hold him up and this boy thought it meant nothing' 'neil was out here having gay thoughts and didn't even know it'
Guys....no. Just noticing that someone is strong does not equal sexual attraction. Neil clocks how short Andrew is too but no one calls that repressed sexuality. Feeling like you can rely on someone does not mean a romantic relationship. Neil didn't think it wasn't romantic or sexual. It wasn't romantic or sexual. Guys we are IN HIS HEAD. He is flat out telling us how he feels and what he's thinking. Repressing something requires knowledge of the thing to repress. If you want to see what it looks like when Nora writes a character who's repressing something, look at how Jean is thinking about Jeremy. Plus, we know what it looks like when Neil is attracted to someone. We actually get to see when Neil's view of Andrew starts to shift and as his romantic and sexual attraction starts to pick up. Look at how he first describes Andrew vs how describes him on the bus in the final book.
Demisexuality is not just repression of secret homosexuality. Demisexuality is it's own thing and it bothers me to see people talking about it this way
hearing a beloved friend say the words 'can i be mean for a sec' is like watching an angel descend from the heavens and kiss you on the forehead
Jean in every other universe is marked with the number ‘4’, a very unlucky number in Japan and a homophone for “death” and in every other universe Jean dies.
However, in this one Jean takes Nathaniel’s number, ‘3’, a lucky number symbolising stability and abundance. And he lives.
Neil would be marked with ‘4’, marked for death, but Lola burned it off. And he survives.
adwd jon IS boring but it’s also my favorite because it’s on purpose on his part. after four genre-shifts from campy boarding school friendship tale to soaring adventure beyond the wall to star crossed romance to war drama he’s finally just like. No. no more of this fantasy bullshit. we’re not fucking doing this. i have shit to do. and EVERYONE around him is just SCREAMING that he’s a magic fantasy protagonist and he’s like, I’ll fucking kill you. I need this to be a plain political drama right now actually. melisandre keeps giving him prophecies and he has dreams about fighting the dead with a glowing red sword and he keeps accidentally warging ghost and getting mad about it and the wildlings swear their vows directly to him in the same manner as they would any king-beyond-the-wall and mormont’s raven is just constantly yelling KING KING KING YOU’RE A KING JON LISTEN TO ME HOLY SHIT and jon’s like. :/ Sorry but i can’t care. nothing suspicious about any of that. i need to go count our stores of salt beef
I'm home

would andrew be the type to take a lot of photos? i feel like yes (neils a pipe dream after all)
we talk a lot about how much of a revelation andrew’s confession is for neil, and not enough about how revelatory neil’s reaction is for andrew. because like. imagine you like this boy. but he doesn’t swing. you know the answer would be “no,” so there’s no point in even asking. then he goes and gets himself needlessly tortured for you, and tells you there’s no amount of suffering he wouldn’t endure for you. not because he thinks you’re weak, but because he thinks you’re worth protecting. he says things that you would interpret as advances if it were literally anyone else. you remind yourself that he doesn’t swing. now you’re at eden’s and he’s asking about your feelings for him in 12 different ways. he really wants to know. so you tell him, in the most casual and crass way you can, thinking that’ll put an end to it. but unfathomably, it doesn’t. he asks you why you didn’t tell him. why would you have? it would have been a “no.” you say that, and instead of confirming it, he just echoes your words, clearly still reeling. you start to leave, and he tells you that he wants to keep playing your game. while the absence of a “no” is obviously not the same thing as a “yes,” you’ve been operating for months and months under the assumption that the answer would be unequivocal. so you keep waiting for that answer, but it never comes. for the first time since you met him, you wonder if maybe it’s not a “no” after all. if maybe you could have this. you can’t remember the last time you were able to have something you wanted. the world tilting on its axis, indeed.
one thing about neil is that he's extremely calculated and genuinely does not give a fuck about 90% of people. and the 10% of people he Does care about he's still willing to manipulate and use for what he views as the best outcome (re: breaking a bone to heal it properly) and i think there's an instinct to downplay this so that neil can be the softer/less intense/emotional one to andrew's uncaring/intense/harsh demeanor bcus there's an obsession in our culture with opposites attract (re: heteronormativity) but it does their dynamic a huge disservice to ignore the Basis of andreil. which is the understanding they have of each other + their reasons + their reactions and how extremely similar they are.
just found out from this interview that nora did, in fact, try really hard to get tfc traditionally published before deciding to just publish it herself. on the one hand, i applaud her effort and persistence. on the other, i cannot stop laughing because like. can you imagine. being an agent reading it in 2010 and thinking "wtf did i just read" and "how do i politely tell this lady that her book is absolutely unmarketable and unsellable and no agent in their right mind would take it"
you didn’t hear it from me but this is the polaroid neil keeps in his wallet and looks at every day
trust
i think they have the perfect kind of love, and i think about them way too much
(also would andrew have longer hair or a buzz cut?? i feel like both work…)
