The Emperor

The Emperor- Upright Represents structure, authority, and stability. Leadership built on discipline and clear boundaries, control earned through responsibility, logic, and experience. Points to protection, order, and the confidence to take command and build something lasting.

The Emperor- Reversed Represents power warped into cruelty, control stripped of purpose beyond domination. Authority that is absolute but hollow, enforced through violence and terror, ultimately leading to destruction.

Another concept that has been stuck in my head for ages. I have lots planned for this, so I hope you guys enjoy.

We're halfway through the big 2026 and people STILL choose to misunderstand Kevin Day, so I'm going to ask you guys to look at it in another way:

Neil grew up under his father's influence, and therefore, he learned to fear him. He also grew up under his mother's influence- also fears her, and simultaneously, loves and misses her like no other. Her baby boy is her number one defender. She literally died for him, after all, and kept him alive, and fought for him, and ensured that no matter what, he would know to survive and how to endure. (Even though she did so in the most fucked up ways possible). Now, Neil eventually learned to overcome his fear of his mother (a good while after her death btw. He was still scared of her view of him even after she died) and does whatever he wishes now. However, has he gotten over Nathan? Nope. He fought everyone readily until it came to his father. Then, he froze, shook, sobbed, and begged. Now, does anyone blame Neil for this? No, and rightfully so.

Now keep in mind: Nathan Wesninski was fucking terrified of the Moriyamas. Nathan Wesninski who mutilated people and cut off their limbs in front of his son. Nathan Wesninski who chased his family to the ends of the world. Nathan Wesninski who still chose to run his mouth seconds before Stuart Hatford killed him. Yeah, that guy. He's fucking scared of the Moriyamas.

Now: who do you think grew up under the Moriyamas since he was like eight? The same people who killed his mother right before taking him in btw. The same people that let their son keep HANDCUFFS ON KEVIN'S BED. The same people who threatened Neil by using examples of Kevin's time in there. "I'm going to love hurting you, like I loved hurting Kevin." HELLO?? And now you're all mad because Kevin had panic attacks and meltdowns at the prospect of facing those people again. That Kevin couldn't throw himself into their clutches the way Neil had. But let me tell you this: Neil didn't know the full details of the Moriyamas' abuse. Do you know whose abuse he knew the full details about though? Nathan Wesninski. And did he choose to eventually leave the Foxes so his father's wrath wouldn't risk them too? Hmm. And we don't blame Neil for wanting to stay, so do not blame Kevin for the pain that the Moriyamas inflicted on everyone. Not his fault. Especially don't blame him for not standing up to them for the sake of his friends. Not his fault either, and unpopular opinion: self-sacrifice is not cute and should not be expected. It's okay to want to live. You're human.

So I know as far as the canon goes Kayleigh Day is painted as a good mother, and the fandom seems to agree there. But like Tetsuji was Kevin's godfather and a known close friend of Kayleigh's. And for some unfathomable reason, named Tetsuji his legal guardian in the event of her death (instead of Wymack his father). So like are we expected to believe Kayleigh had no idea about the Moriyamas? or at least Tetsuji's cruelty? Cause idk if I can believe that, like maybe she was a loving mother, but I can't help to wonder if Kayleigh knew. And I find it kind of hard to believe she didn't. Her not knowing is the only way she can be a good mother and also leave Kevin in his care, but as I said earlier I find it hard to believe she didn't at least know he was a cruel man.

This also brings me back to my earlier question of why leave him to Tetsuji if she knew Wymack was his father?

i think one of the most devastating parts of the sunshine court is when we see jean-yves start to realise that the gap between first and second place was so small yet the difference between the ravens and the trojans so big.

the ravens put everything they had into being first; they weren't allowed family or friends, they practiced obsessively, they were punished for every small mistake. all of it be first.

and then jean-yves gets to usc and he knows they come second or third every year so there's no way they aren't just as disciplined and obsessive as the ravens, right? but they're nothing like them, they're allowed to eat what they want and have lives and families and hobbies, they're allowed to make mistakes without being hit for it, they're allowed pain meds and time off. sure, the ravens were the best. but it was never worth what it cost.

it wasn't as if coach moriyama had to push them that hard in order to win to win—the foxes consisted of dysfunctional kids with trauma and trust issues, and they still beat the ravens. the ravens could have been the best without the cruelty or the controlled meals; they could have been the best without having to give up their families; they could have been the best without sixteen-hour days and no sleep; they could have been the best without jean-yves spending five years being torn apart over and over and told to play anyway. and jean-yves starting to realise that is so important and SO tragic to me.

One thing that always makes me sick when thinking about Kevin is his relationship with Tetsuji.

The control this man has over Kevin is absolutely insane. Wymack says in the TFC extra chapter that If Tetsuji told Kevin to stop playing Exy forever, Kevin would have.

Not even Riko had enough of a grip and power over Kevin to make him stop, but Tetsuji did (still does?).

Every single time Tetsuji is mentioned or appears, Kevin somehow has an worse reaction than to Riko. At the end of the series he is capable of directly defying Riko, but NEVER Tetsuji.

Kevin's reaction to Tetsuji cornering him in the banquet is absolutely heartbreaking.

Not to mention, again, on the TFC extra chapter when Wymack promises Kevin his word as a coach and Kevin, with a pain laced voice, says 'coaches have no honor'.

Whatever Tetsuji did to 9 years old Kevin doesnt sound like just a caning. We know Tetsuji physically abused Riko too, and still, Riko was constantly doing things that would result in Tetsuji punishing him. Of course, he is afraid, but not nearly as afraid as Kevin.

Even Jean, he seems as afraid of Riko as he is of Tetsuji (honestly, I feel like he is even more afraid of Riko. Even though he obviously fears both).

But Kevin is more terrified of Tetsuji than he is of anyone else. To the point that If Tetsuji told him to never pick up a raquet again in his life, he would have. Kevin's trauma response in relation to Tetsuji is stronger than his love for Exy. Which is wild considering not even Riko had this effect on him.

There is also the Kayleigh aspect of It all. The books state that Kevin is extremely similar to her. We also know Tetsuji didnt really want Kayleigh to die and resented Kengo afterwards. Was Kevin a bitter reminder of Kayleigh's death? Did Tetsuji also resent him?? Was Kevin treated worse because of It in some way?? Did Tetsuji use him to vent his frustrations??

(not to mention the very real possibility of CSA on Tetsuji's part, specially If he was in love/felt attraction to Kayleigh, but I wont really get into that right now)

Anyways, I am really curious about the nature of Kevin and Tetsuji's relationship. Specially since I imagine Kevin knew another side of Tetsuji when his mother was alive.

Was It too drastic of a change between when he spent his summers at Evermore and after his mother's death??? Or was Tetsuji already being abusive towards Kevin while Kayleigh was alive but manipulating Kevin to not tell his mother?????

From how young has this man been hurting Kevin???

We always talk about how Kevin was a pet to Riko, but we rarely talk about the fact Tetsuji GIFTED Kevin to Riko as a pet. This GROWN ADULT gave a child to another child. Not just any child, his GODSON, the child of his best friend. Thats so fucking sick in so many levels.

Not to mention: was this man making a literal child kneel for him??? Because when Neil was in the Nest, Tetsuji asked him to kneel. I dont doubt he would do the same to Kevin. But from how young????

Tetsuji makes me so sick and I need to learn more.

I know that a lot of people want Jean to be the one to confront Tetsuji, but to me it should be Kevin. Tetsuji was his godfather. Kayleigh fucking trusted him.

The EC mentions that Tetsuji didn't mean to get Kayleigh killed, and didn't speak to Kengo for years after her death. He cared about her. I'm terrified excited to learn more about Tetsuji and Kevin's relationship in TPC.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if Tetsuji had one-sided feelings for Kayleigh. Then he is accidentally responsible for her death and stuck raising a constant reminder that she was never his. Tetsuji gave Kevin to Riko almost immediately. I imagine that even looking at him caused him some combination of jealousy, anger, grief, and guilt. I wonder if he left Riko to pass on Kevin's punishments because he didn't want to do it himself, or if he was extra brutal to Kevin because of the emotions he evoked. I wonder how many times he told Kevin that his mother would be disappointed in him. I'm guessing it was a lot.

Which is why I need Kevin to be the one to finally destroy him. I need him to tell Tetsuji all the ways he failed, then look him in the eye and say "My mother would be fucking proud of me."

The others can be there, but the last word has to be Kevin's.
