ATLA thoughts: Azula & Zuko’s names
I’ve been rereading the ATLA graphic novels on WebToon and my current thought is:
The first letters of Azula’s and Zuko’s names respectively are the letters A and Z, the first and last letters of the alphabet.
And that’s so neat cuz of their sibling rivalry and how they grew up together. Azula was praised, prioritized by their father Ozai for being a powerful fire bender. While Zuko was shamed and looked down upon by Ozai for being “weaker”—treated as “last” compared to Azula.
And no matter how far apart A and Z are on the alphabet, A is after Z when the alphabet repeats. Which is also neat cuz Zuko is older than Azula.
This fun confidence of their first name letters adds to the storytelling of their sibling relationship for me, and how painful and tense their weaved history is.
Anyone know if this was confirmed to be done on purpose? Their names starting with A and Z?
