Foreshadow Update
It's been some time since my last post, but I have been swamped with work and working on the game for the NaNoGaDeMo. Our game is due in two days and I am proud to say we are on schedule. Our level designer, Zach, is working around the clock to ensure that everything will be functional and bug free. It has been a pleasurable experience working with young individuals who want to make their living in the gaming community.
To my knowledge, we are the only group that is producing something of high quality and this would not have been possible without the great contributions from every single person. Monica, our lead programmer has worked her butt off! Ryan and Keith had prior game making experience in Game Maker but none whatsoever in Unity and to my delight they undertook the process of learning Unity, from scratch at that!
We had a recent addition to our team, an artist, Ploi, and I was hesitant to let someone join this late in the process but I am ever so happy I did. She is an engineer and as a hobby, she enjoys drawing. She came up with some fantastic ideas for the protagonist and supporting character. I don't know if art and animation is something she would like to pursue as a career but she is immensely talented and I've only been encouraging her since she joined.
I was never doubting Ploi or her innate abilities but because we have worked on this game so arduously and laboriously, I was wary of letting someone join and reap the benefit of the game we created. One must always be careful about letting someone join a group. Sit down with them one-on-on and do a sort of interview. Why? If that person has something meaningful to contribute and can dedicate time to the project and meet at specified times they can join. If not, well then that person may just inhibit the progress and throw everything off course.
Those of you reading this may be thinking if all these people are contributing to the physical process of the game what am I doing? The answer is simple. I am coordinating and ensuring that the ideas people have are designed and implemented in an efficient manner; e.g. the things that we are undertaking are actually feasible and that there is continuity between our vision and the physical manifestation of the game.
It is all coming together nicely and I believe our game will be set apart from the others'. I refused to let anyone in the group give up and I wanted to reassure them that you can do whatever you want in life so long as you have the discipline and tenacity to follow through with your goals. I recently came to that realization (after my 28th birthday). I am not looking back.
I will be a success in the gaming industry and I will be influential too. I am confident that my path will be successful and that I will meet some really fascinating and cool people along the way.
P.S. We will be hosting the game on a website for anyone to enjoy and play. Feedback /Criticism will be welcomed and can only help us learn from this endeavor.
Thanks for reading!
